Jon Gl3z - Timeless (Harmonious Discord)

Jon Gl3z has returned to Harmonious Discord, following his Discordian Dreaming submission with a strong, deep minded release featuring remixes from Ivan Dbri and Josiah Fontenot. Timeless is a color wheel of shades — from deep house to minimal to breaks. A diverse collection representing the numerous hues of the season.

"Soul Healing" starts things off with staple house percussions layered in a blanket of lush pad thickness. The ride slips into neutral during a dizzying breakdown where pads and keys collide in a symphony of melody and orca songs. On remix duties for this lovely dive is Mexico’s don of the deep, Ivan Dbri. Following a boundary-defying album for HD, Ivan returns to lay in support for his friend and frequent decks-mate. Ivan applies his signature lush landscape, interplayed with precise percussive moments. His layers of atmosphere only cease during a collision of elements that repeat and then lift off. "Timeless" swerves a different direction with a glowing minimal construction that elevates into some nice ambient soundscapes. Driven by a swirling arpeggio, the selection adds complimenting keys and percussive layers. The result is a thick tapestry of sounds all dancing in perfect synchronization. Josiah Fontenot ups the tempo and applies his signature techno/electro edge. Reminiscent of early Casey Hogan recordings, Josiah skates the boundaries of techno and house, utilizing the growing melodics of the original but with an edge that makes his mix a heavy force on the dance floor. "Valeria" ties up the EP with a fun and bouncy breaks construction that could permeate house music sets, largely due to its deep and jazzy accents. Leveraging tried and true elements like mellotron 'oooohhs' and classic Rhodes keys, "Valeria" brings an element of nostalgia to this well-rounded release.

Ivan Dbri - The Love I Own (Harmonious Discord)

Ivan Dbri, Mexico’s maestro of deep, drops his third full length album on Harmonious Discord with The Love I Own, a collection of love songs drawing inspiration from deep house, lo-fi house, and techno. Ivan Dbri has been contributing to the HD imprint for over 10 years, a remarkable and fruitful relationships that’s led to this special release. Reminiscent of early works by Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Jr., Ivan blends staccato percussion with ultra-lush soundscapes, creating dynamic and musical compositions to touch the soul.

A musically complex intro, “Prelude to Sex” features organic percussion that lifts effortlessly into dance territory. Deep and romantic house music compositions like “When the Music Feels Like Crying” and “Endless” help listeners dive deep into their heads and propagate beauty in their surroundings. “Knowledge Base” enters lush dance territory with colliding house chords and synthetic accents floating lightly over rich pads. “Sodoma and Gomorra” brings similar depth but with the pads in the back seat. It features musical trills and uplifting accents amid a tense bass construction. “What True Love Is All About” and “The Love I Own” return to deep house territory with heavy lo-fi and breakbeat elements showing Ivan’s ability to construct timeless music with range and depth. The breakdown in the “The Love I Own” creates a weightless atmosphere and floats listeners into uncharted depths. “Love Letters For You” is an HD favorite; the perfect blend of music and technology. Tense chord lifts and light techno drum constructions make it a perfect tool for any set. “Danke” closes out the album with a tribute to vocal house. Swung percussion, fat square bass lines, and cut-up vocals provide a proper send off to this delicious album.

Josiah Fontenot - Lazy Brute (Harmonious Discord)

Josiah Fontenot first made an appearance with an oddly spacey tune on the sixth installment if Harmonious Discord's annual Discordian Dreaming compilation under the moniker El Natured. Since then he has been sending the label collections of blissful hardware recordings that pay homage to the defining electronic sounds of the early 2000s. Josiah Fontenot's first EP under his full name – titled Lazy Brute – is a collection warm analog offerings with many beautiful shades of imperfection.

The EP starts off with the original of "Lazy Brute", providing full frontal distorted drum work alongside some well-tempered acid lines. It progresses into a fully flourished set of conjoining melodies and accents that define it as a proper head trip. Rising producer Ivan Dbri partners up with Rocko to take the forward nature of "Lazy Brute" and put it in the context of a signature New York house sound. With hints of garage and an earth-quaking bass line the remix gives disciplined structure to the abstract nature of the original. "The Cold Winter Wind" changes directions to a minimally constructed, bell-driven deep house vibe. Remnants of early Jeff Samuel and Villalobos works flutter around with artistic, playful synth and drum accents. This tune rides the barrier of techno and house in a way that will compliment many HD's multi-genre artists. Texas DJ staple Joshua Kynd has been enlisted for the remix, under his deeper moniker Tobor Rellik. Josh gives "The Cold Winter Wind" a playful tech-house bounce while keep the mood light and melody driven. Heavy attractions enter the arena as the piece moves forward, making for a great tool to fill the floor. The final track, "Knight Moves", is more of a proper tech-house workout, complete with heavy bass lines, 80s accents, and lots of pitch bent pads for keeping the dance floor 'tubular'.
