Lurob - The Fresh Start EP (Patsada Records)

Patsada Records bounds forth with a hot new three tracker from rising San Francisco DJ / producer Lurob. The Fresh Start EP is a potent release aimed squarely at the dance floor, showcasing the funky, beat-blitzing style that Lurob previously unleashed for the likes of Great Lakes Audio, Tango, Piston, and Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz series. "RiverDay" sets the tone as a pounding four-on-the-floor introduces jazzy chords, swirling sonic effects, and some serious low end. Things get a bit slinkier on "35th Richmond Outer" when an exotic melodic sample and some mysterious vocal bits enter the mix for a seductively underground result. The after hours vibe continues with "Ripping Through Chunks" which ups the thump level and tosses delectable loops and vocal phrases in a club-ready fashion. House music at its purest and most floor-centric … another solid release from the Patsada crew.

Sonz of the Pitch - Rola Pedra (Patsada Records)

The new year brings Patsada Records headquarters from Brussels to Montreal and the label's awaited 20th release. "Rola Pedra" is the latest from Sonz of the Pitch, a funky house music duo made up of Phil Nobel and Ricardo Martins. With previous releases including their well-received singles on Patsada and the Welcome Home EP for Gourmand Recordings, the pair look to light up global DJ booths and dance floors. The single begins with a deep-as-f%^k remix from French DJ / producer Joss Moog (Ondulé Recordings, Robsoul) which delicately strips "Rola Pedra" down to its intimate essentials, revealing an effective and tight after hours cut. JR From Dallas (Gourmand, Farris Wheel) is up next with a different approach, as he layers percussion and key hits over a prominent bass line, all to a deliriously funky effect. The 'B side' of the single reveals two versions from Sonz of the Pitch, starting with the somewhat jackin' Downtown Mix. Punchy rhythms and a patient build lead to a fun breakdown that introduces an intoxicating vocal loop. The Uptown Mix then gets down-and-dirty, laying on some '80s-sounding funk synth riffs, a bit of intricate snare action, and another appearance of the previous mix's vocal hook. "Rola Pedra" is here to get the party in motion.

Darko Janevski - Doing It EP (Patsada Records)

Patsada Records has aimed their house music radar at Sofia, Bulgaria to discover up-and-coming producer Darko Janevski. Born in Macedonia, Darko has previously provided his funky brand of house music for Epoque Music Electronic and on a number of compilations, and these two new cuts for Patsada truly signal a talent on the rise. "Doing It" is a classy house number, building hypnotically over its nearly eight minutes with sharp, rhythmic sounds and filtered vocal loops. This one is perfect for that peak moment in a long after-hours set. "Specimen" follows, delivering a fresh track on a jazzy tip. The drums have a good bit of swing, and a bouncing bass line creates forward motion. Cool chords and vocal snippets further help place the cut firmly in the DJ's queue. As a bonus, Patsada's Miss Mee is on hand for a slammin' remix of "Specimen", adding big stabs and raising the tempo just a tad. Smart rhythmic cut-ups of the spoken vocals and a prominent low end combine in an appealingly energetic mix. It's official: Darko Janevski's new single brings the goods.
