DJ Sulli - You Party For a Livin' (Hype & Soul Recordings)

House music scene veteran DJ Sulli (AKA Sean Sullivan) delivers a bit of a surprise for his latest single on the Hype & Soul label. With the participation of his the H&S team, Sulli's taken a tune from a classic electronic band and shifted, recontextualized, and transformed it into a new … mode. This is "You Party For a Livin'," a peak time track that'll work like a Dream On the dancefloor.

The single opens with a version from DJ Lamprey that is perfect for low-lit rooms during after-hours moments. The synth parts are accentuated to emphasize the melodies as a moody vocal twists around the rhythmic backbone. Next up is a funk-fueled techy mix from DJ 5657 (AKA Cody Nasir). Most of the vocals are stripped away in favor of a heavy bass line ride, giving this a definite main room dub feel. DJ Sulli brings on the version that inspired it all. His All Night Every Night Remix is a solid warehouse stomper that evokes the latest of nights (or the earliest of mornings). Wild sounds abound, with gated vocals, pulsing sub-bass, and chunky, tight drums driving this one home. Sulli also provides an Intro Dub mix that works brilliantly as an opening tool to lead into any of the mixes.

All proceeds from this release (100%) will be donated to The Small Steps Project, a humanitarian organization and UK-registered charity dedicated to supporting children around the world who live on rubbish dumps and survive from scavenging.

Look for DJ Sulli's accompanying release of "Flamenco Dalliance," coming out simultaneously on Selekta Recordings.

Dj Sulli & 5657 - Dreaming of You (Hype & Soul)

The crucial Northern California house music imprint Hype & Soul Recordings returns with "Dreaming Of You," the latest from DJ Sulli & 5657. Expertly sculpted for the late-night underground dancefloors, the single features four different mixes to get the party in high gear.

The single opens with the Missin' You Mix, hand-built on a chassis of chiming acoustic guitar chords and a lowdown bass riff. Horn-like calls and cosmic swooshes float in and out of the huge reverb space. Sulli's The Sweaty Mix is next, seemingly pulled straight from the MURK Records playbook. The gigantic bass line is in the forefront, making nightclub speakers tremble around the female vocal hook: "Yes, I dream of you, all of the time." DJ Sulli & 5657 return with combined forces for the My Oculus Lover Remix. designed as a merging of the two previous versions. The title refers to the inevitable virtual love affairs spawned in the metaverse. And then, Hype & Soul enlist legendary L.A. DJ and producer Dirty Dan for the Dirty Dan Epic Rework. Various Artists - Winter Sampler: 20 Year Compilation (Uniting Souls Music)

Twenty years of Uniting Souls! The Seattle institution – collective, events promoter, and record label – celebrates an impressive two decades since formation with a compilation showcasing some of the crew's strongest contributors. Across top notch eight cuts, the Winter Sampler: 20 Year Compilation delivers the deep, underground beats that Uniting Souls is known for.

Michael Manahan (Hunt & Gather) starts off the sampler with the groovy "Center Peace," featuring evocative vocals from Tamika Jackson which alternates between sung and spoken phrases. Spacey pads and sharp chords drive things along nicely. Long-time Uniting Souls denizen Tokita (Night Grooves) then unleashes "Jazzcid" which funks up the proceedings. Its delicious nods to the old school are irresistible. "Everyday" comes courtesy of Jeromy Nail (Innerflight Music), dropping intricate beat programming, bouncing sub bass, and a slinky dance floor vibe. DJ duo Lee Houser (Tilted Records) contributes two cuts, with "Art of State" exhibiting a classic, psychedelic west coast deep house flavor. The pair's "Don't Even Know Me" then gets remixed by veteran Uniting Souls DJ Jordan Strong who sublimely places the cut right in the middle of an underground basement party at 4 AM. Reno, Nevada, DJs Sulli & 5657 are up next, delivering some particularly chunky beats and a ton of late night atmosphere. Live electronic trio, renowned & much-loved in the Pacific Northwest festival community, Madly In Dub lend an exotic flair with "Suenos Verdes," and Jordan Strong returns to close out the compilation with the deep, percussive, and dark "Picture In The Sky," a collaboration with Shonja.

Winter Sampler: 20 Year Compilation serves as a brilliant 'state of the nation' for Uniting Souls and its family. The label and collective is as strong as ever, and there's no sign of slowing down. Seattle's house music underground is in good hands.
