Anthony Mansfield - Bricks - (Green Gorilla Lounge)

Green Gorilla Lounge fills out its origin story with the re-introduction of founding member Anthony Mansfield to the release schedule. Since 2001, Anthony has been a part of the infamous GGL club night in San Francisco with DJ M3, his eternal partner in crime. His return is marked by the glorious “Bricks,” a groovy acid chugger that solidifies the sound Anthony sculpted with his cult-favorite Hector Works imprint. Hypnotic mid-tempo rhythms, psychedelic voice snippets, meaty synths, and big drum fills round out this dark-as-night DJ treat.

This single includes a chunky remix from Om Records staple Shiny Objects, adding bright synth lines, sparse percussive dubbiness, and spacey echo effects. And then, if that weren’t enough, another Hector Works veteran, Nick Chacona (Moodmusic, 20:20 Vision) joins Anthony for a surprise appearance with the wild dance floor sound experiment of “Pidgeon.” Trippy in all the right places, “Pidgeon” further defines the 3 AM sound of the Green Gorilla Lounge — that magic moment when things get simultaneously messy and marvelous. Sleazy disco warriors, unite.

Auditive Cosmos - Disco Fiction (Emerald and Doreen)

Auditive Cosmos is an ambitious new project from a prolific veteran German producer who wishes to remain as anonymous as a yet undiscovered solar system. Under this pseudonym, Auditive Cosmos rides galactic disco waves with a cloaking device in full effect, appearing briefly to jettison the Disco Fiction album onto esteemed German boutique imprint Emerald & Doreen Records. This is an interstellar mission to explore the far reaches of dance music.

The sounds throughout the Disco Fiction album are heavily influenced by the Italo and disco scenes of the past few decades but with a modernistic take supplied by the seasoned producer at the helm. Auditive Cosmos supplies bass, drums, electronics, and keys throughout while a talented group of guest vocalists and musicians elegantly fill in the spaces. Highlights include, but are not limited to, the authentic sounding disco blast of "Stargazer", "Driving At Night" and its slo-mo cyborg serenade, the old school electro vocoder nugget that is "Galactic Riders", and the synth-tastic wind up of "Discofiction". With twelve cool tracks in total, there's plenty to get lost in here, and much to get down to. Blast off!

Anthony Mansfield + JP Soul - Inner Demons / The Moving Song (Roam Recordings)

Roam Recordings has been operating out of San Francisco for over fifteen years. Once a small local label featuring forward thinking producers hailing from the Bay Area, it has since grown to become home to an international crew of top tier underground dance music talent.

With plans to make 2016 the best year yet, label boss JP Soul gets things started with his right hand man and SF rave lord Anthony Mansfield. The two have been finely honing their creepy crawly electronic sound as a duo over the past year and this latest release showcases their development as VIPs amongst San Francisco’s analog ‘rack pack’.

Inner Demons” is a dark and witchy affair with acid tones, a haunting melody, and ominous sounds that seems to conjure creatures from the deep. Covert shuffling on late night dance floors is guaranteed. Flip the switch for “The Moving Song” which continues in this dark direction but with a tighter leash on its synthesized soundscape. A slinky groove for any discerning DJ’s set. Drop, spin, and roll.

With an early 2016 release schedule that includes Tone Of Arc, 40 Thieves, Tronik Youth, and Lokier there is a lot to look forward to from Roam Recordings this year.

JP Soul - From Within EP (Roam Recordings)

JP Soul has unveiled three heartfelt songs from the San Francisco underground, comprising the From Within EP for Roam Recordings. After a successful slew of singles, collaborations with Anthony Mansfield, and tracks remixed by the likes of Wolf+Lamb, The Revenge, and Sleazy McQueen, JP Soul bounds forth with a release that's 100% on the solo tip. Snaking synth melodies and Italo-influenced textures abound, as these cuts hypnotize through their trippy sonic motions. "From Within" and its dreamy soundscape, the multi-genre blend of "I'mkindagoingthroughitrightnow", and "Invisible Fences" with live drums from JP augmenting its psychedelic romp … these tracks flow like neon fluid from living circuitboards onto the dance floor. Tune in and trip out.
