Zona ft. Chellena Black - Jesus Is (Deeplife Records)

Zona, comprised of the L.A.-based duo of Dimitri Craven and Jerry Andrews, combine house, disco, and techno influences with live vocals and instrumentation. Releasing on labels such as 70x7, Kapa, Good For You, and now Deeplife Records, their songs aim to bring feel-good vibes to listeners and dance floors with uplifting messages and funky rhythms. Zona has received high praise from the likes of Jazzie B (Soul II Soul, BBC Radio UK) and recently secured a top 5 Traxsouce single with the song "Time."

Featuring the wonderful vocalist Chellena Black, Zona's new single "Jesus Is" features a joyful gospel-house flavor and a positivity that's universal. The song is also extra special for Dimitri, as it was written during a trying time when he learned to trust in a higher power. The cut features a banging rhythm that touches on the tribal side, along with a pulsing bass line and a churning organ line. Chellena's expressive vocals build on the powerful music, launching the track to another level.

Legendary producer/DJ AJ Mora supplies a remix with a techier drum track while retaining the soulful feel of the original. There's also an AJ Mora Dub version that highlights the remix's warehouse-flavored old-school elements. Ibizian native J.Alba is next up with a deep take filled with spacey arpeggiations and lush synth pads complementing the vocal line and tight rhythm track. Floor-primed and elevated, no doubt.

Zona - Move On feat. Angelina Sol (70x7 Records)

Zona’s Move On channels the empowerment of disco queens Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer and Chaka Khan on the latest 70x7 Records release. The Los Angeles-based production duo of Dimitri Craven and Jerry Andrews collaborate with Angelina Sol, who sings of being fed up with a cheating man on the infectious disco house original, while Agent Blak’s re-work plunders deep house with the pirate’s booty sensibility of Jolly Roger and Juwan Rates returns to a classic house sound. Agent Blak’s version hosts slow build ascension to explosive beats and smart production with percussive strains, while Juwan Rates deepens the slow build anticipation in the introduction, sampling old school house samples culminating in a dancefloor banger. Taken together, the three tracks are a soulful romp through house music—whether of the disco, deep, or classic variety.

Booker T. (Kings of Soul) – “Cool vibes, will support.”

Zona is an eclectic house music combo comprised of Dimitri Craven and Jerry Andrews, based in Los Angeles. The duo pushes a 'live' deep house style and has had previous acclaimed releases on Good For You Records, Kapa, and House Tribe Records. Zona focuses on the soulful and inspirational facets of house music, collaborating with a number of talented vocalists and players to realize their finely textured sound. 70x7 Records is the pair's own label, and recently issued the full length album Peace, Love and Understanding to much worldwide acclaim. "Time", featuring vocalist Valerie Moise, is the latest single from the album and is featured here with a quartet of fantastic remixes.

Respected house music veterans Eric Kupper & Lenny RX turn in a brilliant and moving version that displays their production prowess. Starting simple with a kick, snare, and syncopated bass line, the mix introduces the lovely vocal and quickly fills with layers of chords, pad washes, and dubby effects. Exceptional stuff. Mikey V, of L.A.'s Hawt Music collective, drops a high quality remix tailor-made for the underground, surrounding the vocal line with skippy beats, pulsing chords, and an all-around uplifting and deep vibe. Santa Monica's Agent Blak mixes up the rhythms for a punchy Broken Mix, and Reda Briki brings a deep, late night 'playa' feel with his LDN Switch Remix. Overall, it's a varied and distinct package that never lets go of Zona's core composition and Valerie Moise's seductive voice.
