Various Artists - Neon Grooves (Wind Horse Records)

Wind Horse Records is elated to announce a new EP - Neon Grooves. This is the 33rd EP by Wind Horse Records and the inspiration behind it has been taken from a label showcase that happened in Goa in December 2016. In an effort to spread quality house music across India, the label launched a party called the ‘The Wind Horse Experience’ and the ‘Neon Grooves’ edition in Goa was the first time they had organized an event such as this. The label’s party soon became the place for all house music lovers, especially those searching for a more groovy, funky, and ethnic vibe, complimented of course by Goan sunsets and starry nights. Wind Horse were were thrilled to see the reaction of people to their sound given that Goa is more known for a harder vibe. The line up consisted of DJs that have produced music for Wind Horse over the years and a couple of international guests. After the success of ‘Neon Grooves’ Wind Horse decided to make an EP around this party to remember the magical moment and keep the memory alive. The label invited the artists that performed at the party to borrow from the energy cultivated then and create a beautiful journey to embark on the now.

The EP opens with the dutch maestro Thee J Johanz and his remix of “Agama” by Umeme. A real intricate work of art here with its afro vocal vibe weaved into more raw analog elements that evolve and alternate in the midst of a drum-tastic, exotic, and tribal-influenced disco bomb. “Neon Afro” by Hamza goes deeper into the tropics with the thrilling combination of percussion and drums with a sprinkling of sweet melodic uplifting elements, teleporting the listener to a sunny beach. “Khawatta Ceremony” by Farhan Rehman (Mumbai) and Stalvart John (Bangalore) is a bit harder, a bit darker. This synth-track will have the dance floor grooving with its refreshing vocals and echoey chord progressions. “Antares” (also the name of the place Wind Horse hosted Neon Grooves in Goa) by Troja (Mumbai) is a change of tempo with a beautiful, ethereal sort of sound formed by warm Indian ethnic instruments and meditative melodies. Oma (Delhi) turns his track up with “One Shade Brighter”. A happy bouncy bass with solid vocals teleports the listener back to the beach party, but with a deeper edge. “Whisky Flask” by Nigel Perera (Sri Lanka) changes up the beat with a groovy number consisting of beautiful chords and twisted sounds, the perfect beach-side sunset tune. To end the journey, Priyesh Patil (Mumbai) brings “Vagabond” with smooth beats and beautiful sax samples and a deep bass to guide the floor right into the horizon.

Juan Hoerni - Love Rewind featuring Chezere & Maurice Smith (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

The premier Los Angeles soulful house imprint Cha Cha Project Recordings has delivered another top-notch single from flagship producer Juan Hoerni, “Love Rewind”. Coming off his acclaimed album Move Mountains and the recent Hot For You EP (his collaboration with Jimmy Dear), Juan has quickly established himself as one of the new leading lights in the west coast’s soulful house music scene. “Love Rewind” confirms this rise with its smooth, full production, delicious disco vibe, and immaculate vocal performances from Maurice Smith and Chezere. The two singers create a moving interplay that brings home the song’s positive message over jazzy keys, a rolling live bass line, and a tastefully driving drum section. This one’s got ‘future classic’ written all over it. Also, Chicago house music legend Terry Hunter provides a number of outstanding remixes that build on the rhythmic foundation of “Love Rewind” for maximum dance floor pleasure. The sparser arrangements on Terry’s mixes really bring out the vocals, too, making for exceptional versions that accentuate the strength of the song and its performers. Primed and ready for the summer … give in to “Love Rewind”.

Danna - Dumb (Bonanza Records)

Bonanza Records is pleased to present the latest release from Italy’s Danna, the double a-side single “Dumb” and “It’s My Opinion”. An up-and-coming DJ, Danna has played many prominent Italian clubs alongside the likes of Todd Terry, Hector Romero, and Sam Divine. In 2016 Danna debuted as a producer, releasing “Luna Llena” to much acclaim and support from heavy hitters like Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, and even Giorgio Moroder. Danna now follows up with a slamming new single that’s ready to energize late night club excursions. “Dumb” opens with a tough tech-house rhythm as beefy bass stabs filter up into the mix. Percussive effects and a big sense of space expand the vibe, and a groovy breakdown section introduces a cool syncopated synth motif. “It’s My Opinion” is on a housier tip with its bouncy low end, squelchy pads, buzzy synth riffs, and a fun spoken vocal section. This is the sound of the after hours, and Danna is keen to deliver.

Eric Davenport (Guesthouse) – “Nice tracks for the dj, fun to layer.”
Lee Guthrie (Wiggle) – “Nicely done. Dumb is my pick.”
Benji Candelario (Transistori Music) – “Dumb is a funky tune.”

PointBender - Dusk Remixed (Harmonious Discord)

Harmonious Discord label boss and abstract artist PointBender reimagines Dusk Frontier with Dusk Remixed, featuring remixes by Dorian, Murr, and a PointBender redux. PointBender is the moniker of Sean Anderson, an independent artist living in Austin, Texas, who has also released work on imprints like Guidance, Thoughtless and Blaq.

Label mainstay and Carmen San Diego of monikers Brad Dale offers up an interpretation through his Dorian moniker. Brad has been featured on the label in many forms, most notably Molecule, Echo Conscious, and Ishi. A man of many talents and musical precision, Brad offers up a pensive rework formulating the hypnotic vocal takes into a backdrop of classic deep house atmospheres. Propelled even deeper by heavily plated live guitar and bass, Dorian’s rework puts the subconscious on auto-pilot as intensity and uncertainty mount. Lal co-pilot and independent artist Murr pulls in his twist of events, focused more of the range of vocals. Murr stays true to his signature methods, presenting shades like linear algebra, where the sum amounts to so much more than the parts. Our final rework comes from PointBender himself, offering up a stripped down, beat-driven alternative. This collection of remixes pushes more experimentation on the dancefloor while retaining some of the hypnotic elements of the original but with greater intensity.

Alinep (Asia Music) – “The Original Mix is tops.”
Raconteur (Stranjjur) – “PointBender Redux is solid! I also dig the Murr Remix.”
Eric Davenport (Guesthouse) – “Solid production and song writing.”
DJ P-Rez (Not So Fast Records) – “Yes!! This is a great release.”
Makossa (Luv Lite Recordings) – “Solid Deep Vibe.”
Brian Bacchus (Summit Sessions Radio Show) – “Dorian’s Concrete Remix has a beautiful natural feel … really balances the vibe of this track.”
Salvatore Logicfusion (Deepinradio) – “Fresh and beautiful. Thumbs up!”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Brilliant. I love Dorian’s Concrete Remix.”
Hightower (JELEWA.de music blog) – “Nice EP. Nice vocals. Full support!”
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch) – “My goodness, this is special. Such beautiful tone and phrasing. I will be playing this a lot.”
