Darwin Chamber X DJ Spun - Darwin Chamber X DJ Spun (Rong Music)

In a bold meeting of minds, Darwin Chamber and DJ Spun join forces for a four-track EP that pushes the boundaries of techno music. This self-titled release on Rong Music showcases the duo's combined decades of experience, resulting in a sonic journey that's nostalgic yet forward-thinking.

The EP kicks off with "Find The Missing Letter," a deep techno cut that weaves dub-inspired elements with hypnotic synth chimes. It's a crafty builder that sets the tone for what's to come. "Digits" follows, living up to its name with a relentless beat that evokes images of robotic revelry. This dark, driving track shows the producers' ability to create tension and release on the dancefloor.

"Do It All Night" emerges as the EP's sultry centerpiece; its pulsating rhythm and seductive groove are designed to keep bodies popping until dawn. The release closes with "Ants," a mid-tempo curiosity that crawls under your skin with its analog warmth and acidic undertones.

Darwin Chamber, aka Mark Greenfield, brings his extensive background in sound engineering and early contributions to breakbeat and trip-hop to the table. DJ Spun, the alias of Jason Drummond, infuses the project with his deep understanding of New York's club culture. Together, they've created a release that'll resonate across the DJ-sphere and club-land.

Disappear - Iniquity (Harmonius Discord)

The camp at Harmonious Discord is proud to debut Inequity, an eight track album by Daniel Allen’s downtempo/electronica moniker, Disappear. A mix of synthetic soundscapes and earthly delights, Inequity showcases the broad understanding and musical range of the Austin, Texas native and label boss of Denied Music. HD has been working with Daniel to curate this special mix of music for the last year to maximize listener enjoyment of all its musical moments.

Selections like "Lojack," "Outrun," and "Under the Guise of Progress" pay heavy nods to Blade Runner soundscapes set atop swung, syncopated drum construction. "Safety Before Feelings" and "Syntonic Research" capture the same futuristic vibe with a much more ambient tone, focusing on the soundscapes and stripped-away drum additions. "Inequity" parodies the theme with a rounded Reese bass and more organic drum delivery. Rounding out the soundscape are tunes like "Too Late" and "Like Sand" that provide a much more organic appeal, weaving in acoustics and field sampling. Inequity is a surprisingly evenly-tempered mash of musical construction that showcases the other forms of Daniel’s mastery.

Jon Fugler (Fluke) – “Some real gems here - always a pleasure to hear tracks that are not afraid to go a little darker.”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite) – “Love this release. Awesome music. Trippy sci-fi, soundtrack timeless.”
Charles Corcho (Selekta Chang) – “I like this - raw hip hop elements over vocals that reverb out. good dub hip hop/instrumentals, a slow low tempo.”
Simon Kirk (Proton Radio) – “A deeply rich and broad spectrum of brilliant electronica..Syntonic Research closing the album out is amazing..!”
DJ Clairvo (Tilos Radio Budapest) – “This is such a warm and perfect release! I love those deep and catchy post-trip-hop-ish vibes! Full support!”
Clive Craske (RadioReverb, Brighton) – “Both playful and psychedelically deep, this album explores the integration of digital electronics, sample manipulation and analogue synthesis. Accomplished and effective as it is propulsive and mesmeric.”

Sharif Galal - Little Rays of Sunshine EP (Suite Grooves)

Sharif Galal, a veteran radio and club DJ with nearly four decades of experience, has released a mesmerizing EP titled Little Rays of Sunshine on his own label, Suite Grooves. This collection of five tracks showcases Galal's unique ability to blend Western beats with Middle Eastern sounds and instruments, creating a captivating fusion that transports listeners to the heart of the desert.

The title track, "Little Rays of Sunshine," is an account of Galal's recent trip to Egypt, where he captured the laid-back and relaxed atmosphere of his time spent with family. The song centers around the enchanting sound of an Oud, complemented by big beats, heavy bass, and exotic melodies that build with a wild intensity. The result is a slightly ominous yet irresistibly alluring track that evokes strong desert vibes.

"Yallah," meaning "Come on," "Let's go," or "Hurry up" in Arabic, picks up the pace and aims straight for the dancefloor. The exciting hand percussion vibes and the interaction of string instruments with orchestral melodies create a driving feel that will have listeners moving to the bouncing beats. This versatile word, familiar to anyone who has spent time in an Arabic-speaking country, perfectly captures the energy and spirit of the track.

The EP also features "White Girl," a remix of a popular Egyptian folk tune sans vocals. The mid-tempo four-on-the-floor rhythm, combined with an array of cool percussion and Middle Eastern instrumentation, results in a hypnotic floor fodder with a touch of dubby-ness. It's a track that will keep dancers entranced and engaged.

Up next is "Zaar Saraab," a nod to the Sufi gatherings where participants try to achieve a trancelike state, losing themselves in the infinite oneness of life. The rhythms and percussion transport the listener and the dancer to a place made from a mirage in the desert.

Closing the EP is "Ban War," a poignant and atmospheric track that reflects on the current state of the world. With a hip-hop beat, female vocals, and a flute that calls for peace, this emotional and layered lament showcases Galal's ability to convey powerful messages through his music.

The Little Rays of Sunshine EP is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates the fusion of Middle Eastern sounds with Western beats. Sharif Galal's decades of experience as a DJ and producer shine through in each track, making this release a true gem in the world of dance music. Embark on a musical journey through the sands of time.

Rory Hoy (Super Hi-Fi) – “Really enjoying the Middle Eastern vibes here.”
