Various Artists - The Ohana Project Vol. 1 (Pelvic Movements)

The Hawaiian concept of 'ohana'—family—takes on urgent meaning in this compilation EP spearheaded by Scottie Soul, a DJ who planted house music seeds in Hawaii's volcanic soil three decades ago. Conceived as a fundraiser for Maui wildfire recovery, this five-track collection brings together electronic music veterans with deep Pacific connections.

Scottie Soul opens proceedings with "Love Love Love," threading chunky rhythms through a dirty 303-like bassline while speech drops fragment across late-night warehouse drums. The Ward Mix, a collaboration with legendary DJ Spun (Rong Music), transforms the original into a four-on-the-floor dancefloor destroyer, complete with echoed vocals and a breakbeat surprise ending.

San Francisco tribal-house maestro John Howard contributes two characteristically off-kilter journeys. "MMOO" layers cosmic percussion with strange orchestral synths, while "Discedit" channels NYC's avant-disco spirit through whistles, shouts, and clever quotations from classic tracks—a street-side jam that's pure vibe.

The closer from Orangutan Tiddies ft. Symphony delivers. "MAUI (Piano Dub)" marries full-throttle funk bass with old-school piano magic, as a female vocal explicitly connects the track to its beneficiary. The result lifts spirits through lush production that's equal parts garage-disco and hopeful joy.

Beyond its musical merits, The Ohana Project Vol. 1 succeeds as community action draped in electronic music. Each track pulses with purpose, transforming dance music's escapist tendencies into the profound—healing through rhythm, recovery through warehouse communion.

Kovacs The Hun - Drowning (The Content Label)

The Content Label welcomes the third release from Budapest's sonic architect Kovacs The Hun, whose Drowning pulls listeners into currents where experimental jazz and electronic production flow together with hypnotic results.

Born Nándor Kürtössy in northern Hungary, Kovacs continues the adventurous trajectory established in Mirror World and Self Isolation, yet here he swims deeper into uncharted waters. The album creates moments where jazz improvisation meets footwork rhythms in surprising configurations, with eerie cinematic moods floating above driving beats.

The collaborative spirit shines through performances from guitarist Márton Sütő and producer yibai, whose contributions add distinctive colors to Kovacs' already vibrant palette. "The Tide Rider" opens with bubbling electronic patterns before expanding into haunting improvisational passages. Meanwhile, "Dolphins On Acid" pulses with strange underwater energy, its off- kilter loops suggesting altered states and shifting perspectives.

Perhaps most captivating is "Pleasure Paradox" , where Kovacs layers unconventional melodies over restless percussion, creating music that feels simultaneously structured and free-flowing. Each track functions as its own universe while contributing to the album's broader narrative.

Drowning showcases Kovacs' ability to blend jazz sensibilities with electronic experimentation, producing music that invites both careful listening and physical response. The album carries listeners through surreal sonic landscapes where convention dissolves and new musical possibilities emerge.
