Juan Hoerni - Unlimited Capacities (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Los Angeles house music maestro Juan Hoerni strides into 2019 with a terrific new single for his Cha Cha Project Recordings imprint, “Unlimited Capacities.” The original is a bonafide groover, with sterling production and disco elements accompanying spare jazz-infused instrumentation. Sexy hints of vocals pepper the track as Scott Wozniak provides top notch keyboard work. It’s the sound of a sleek night ride through club land, no doubt.

Juan continues his history of legendary collaborations by enlisting none other than DJ Spinna on the remix. Spinna applies his down-and-dirty dance floor approach, bringing out some of the subtle Italo influences within the disco thump. An insistent rhythm is propelled by swirling organ, a bouncing bass line, and clav-like key stabs. This one’s blazing hot, and just in time for summer sessions.

Vinny Villbass Moneymaker (Sloth UK Remixes) [Beatservice Records]

Vinny Villbass is one of the long-time driving forces behind the Norwegian club scene. In addition to an extensive list of club nights and house parties on his conscience, he is 1/3 of the crew behind the renowned Oslo club night Sunkissed and initiator of the Norwegian web-portal OsloClubCast, building ties between the clubs, DJs, and producers of Oslo.

As a DJ, Vinny Villbass is known for his exceptional groove and timing as a result of 15 years behind the decks, mostly in Scandinavia, but also as a resident in Berlin as well as New York City. As guitar and synth player in diskJokkeBand, Vinny’s musical experience reaches far beyond his DJ and vinyl junkie exploits. Also a master of acoustics, Vinny’s production skills front his very own trademark sound of house music. He has releases on labels such as Eskimo Recordings, Trunkfunk, and Afro Art, and a long history of remixes. Lately he has been remixing Norwegian bands as diversions from his daily studio focus, as collected on Beatservice’s Diversions remix-compilation.

Vinny’s “Moneymaker” was a standout track on the Prima Norsk 4 compilation, alternately released as its own single in 2017. It’s a slinky house groover with vocals from King Midas singer Ando, tailor-made for late night action. British dance music legend Peter Hurst, AKA Sloth UK, has remixed the track into a dubby, percussive masterwork that has ‘instant classic’ written all over it. Cheekily titled the Queen’s Lead Hat Remix, Sloth UK has provided a full-on vocal mix and a potent instrumental, both ready to do serious dance floor damage. Get down!

Dutchican Soul (Strictly Rhythm) – “Love this track! Will be playing this out.”
Lenny Fontana (Ministry of Sound) – “Feeling this. I will play it.”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite) – “I like it. Right funky.”
DJ Harri (Sub Club) – “Both remixes are great. Will play and support.”

Al Bradley (3am Recordings) – “Ace stuff here. Love the slightly sleazy loose feel to this one, plus the vocals add a really cool twist. Top beats!”
Richard Hardcastle (All Out War Radio Show) – “Straight up fire!!”
Hober Mallow (Mighty Reel, Sydney) – “Sweet groovy tune! Love the percussive parts and the flow of it. Will definitely play.”

Legs 11 - Another Wave (Beatservice Records)

Legs 11, the Synthpop quartet out of Oslo, joins up with the Beatservice Records label for an outing of twisted and funky Norwegian electronic music on “Another Wave”. The band was formed when Sigmund Floyd, of Palace of Pleasure fame, joined forces with Torstein Dyrnes from the now defunct Playstation duo Tøyen, and mysterious bedroom musician Nils Tveten. In 2017 they were joined by their fourth member, the multi-instrumentalist Audun Severin Eftevåg. It all started during a karaoke-fuelled haze in the seedy parts of Oslo, when they discovered a shared love of synth pop, post-punk, new wave and house music. Drawing on these influences, the band has created a diverse musical universe with tracks like the piano driven We Connect, infectious twisted pop gems like The Rhythm, and psychedelic dance tunes like Here Comes Another Wave.

You can catch Legs 11 playing live with a setup containing lots of keyboards, guitars, percussive and wind instruments. All multi talented, the members constantly switch instruments and take turns singing lead and backing vocals during their live performances. Get on board and ride the wave!

Severino (HorseMeatDisco) – “Yes! Great concept.”
Frivolous (Cadenza) – “Exceptional! Finally something from the future.”

Various Artists - Our Disco Vol. 2 (Discobox Records)

Discobox Records presents the latest installment of its Our Disco compilation series, presenting fresh music from the label’s already established roster in addition to new faces joining the cast. This time Discobox showcases artists from the label’s home base of Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Opening the set, DCW (AKA Gustavo Castro) presents the immediately danceable “Red Shoes”. With a background playing in bands and exploring different musical styles Gustavo has managed to develop a unique approach to dance music. His debut on Discobox is a beautiful track using filtered synths, sharp bass line, and a classic, soul-stirring vocal that you just might recognize.

Next up, Gustavo Peluzo keeps the vibes deep with his flowing track “Return”. Besides being a prolific producer, Gustavo is also longtime resident DJ of the legendary Deputamadre Club and has developed superb skills both in DJ’ing and producing music.

The third track brings a returning name from the series. Juliano Maia joined the first compilation with great feedbacks with the excellent electro-inspired “Shake”. Now he presents “The Volume”, a work lovingly influenced by classic house music, with his own added touch.

Cury is a brand new name to the label, and was one of the members of Funky Fat band, recently going solo. His contribution – titled “Dope” – follows the pumping but deep tech-house style he plays in his sets, featuring a rolling bass line, sexy vocal snippets, and emotive synths.

Rounding out the package, DJ Daniel D goes straight into the funky acid house field with “Find A Place”. This potent club cut includes Daniel’s characteristic extra fat bass line and old-school 808 shots joining modern synths and drums.

From disco to house, to nu-disco, tech-house and classic old-school retro sounds … this is what Discobox is all about. Let’s disco!
