Casomado - Walk Away (Friskybeat Records)

Miguel Leiva is Casomado, an up and coming producer and DJ based out of Montreal. Casomado has settled on a multi-faceted house music sound to move feet and souls alike. His new single, “Walk Away,” was inspired by Casomado’s travels in South America earlier in the year. Starting with gentle, emotional chords, the tune comes together with a subdued house rhythm and ‘80s-style bass line. The melody, inspired by a classic disco track, compliments the inspiration and musical vibe with precision. The lyrics ended up portraying Casomado’s frame of mind when the track’s concept was dreamed up during his travels, with the vocals bringing it all together like icing on a cake. It’s a lovely slice of deep house, ready-made for mixes, DJ sets, and back-to-mine sessions.

Glass Slipper - Land of Love (Harmonious Discord)

Occupying the airwaves with soulful technology is Austin-based duo Glass Slipper. Glass Slipper is a vocal house music project from Lisa Cork-Twiss and Brad Eller. Lisa is known as a former member of Real McCoy and Brad is a respected vet of the SF Bay Area scene. Their project merges classic soul with forward thinking instrumentation and thought-provoking messages critical of the times. Recently, Glass Slipper has seen a string of releases on house staples like Sole Channel, Puro Music, Colour and Pitch, Subplot, and Midnight Riot. When a studio video passed the desk at Harmonious Discord headquarters the label immediately ‘fell in’ with “Land of Love.” To compliment this special selection, remixes were chosen courtesy of musical cosmonaut KiloWatts and deep dub designer Hubb.

“Land of Love” is a journey laden in lush pads, funky square-wave bass lines, and vocal textures taunting and leading the listener forward. Cascaded drips of melody roll over the sonic environment like water as a building intensity is translated through the evolving bass patterns. The Dub offers a slightly altered shade with tech-leaning drum arrangements and subtle vocal effect trails. KiloWatts provides a vibey broken beat interpretation with finely crafted fills. Pleasant arpeggiations dance around funky bass constructions while melodic density rises upward, ultimately leading to a layer cake of synthesizer tension. Early morning duties are offered by Hubb with his 5am love, featuring hints of guitar and piano setting the vocal components adrift in a sea of warmth.

Jaymz Nylon (Nylon Recordings) – “Glass Slipper never disappoints.”

Of Norway & Linnea Dale - War With Yourself (Beatservice Records)

In 2019, Linnea Dale and Of Norway released Pets, an album collecting the pair’s tantalizing collaborative tracks. Now Beatservice is releasing two sets of EPs featuring cool remixes of songs from this album. The first volume spotlights “War With Yourself”, with the original mix nicely complemented by two unheard versions — choice reworks from UK nu-disco trio Paper Street Soul (AKA Cuz Electric and Slync) and the Bergen-based organic techno exponent Angermund.

A mischievous workout fusing whirring analog house with heavy-lidded pop tropes, “War With Yourself” proves to have lost nothing of its heavy-duty energy and loungey aptitude. In Paper Street Soul's version, this former stealth club weapon is stripped bare of its ear-wormy bass and jacking pistons to enter a new dimension of coastal plenitude. Scoping out the fringes betwixt solar-powered funk, post-Balearic ambientism, and vaporous pop straight out the can, PSS dish out a seriously addictive number, full of vim and outright soothing euphoria.

Angermund's hair-trigger version puts the pedal to the metal and takes us on a demented safari-like ride across shape-shifting, neon-clad landscapes at full throttle. The result is an utterly mind-bending trip, engineering a mix of steroid-boosted bass, gym-bunnyesque synth leads. This distinctive, hard-hitting affair also features a double-time percussive churn that pulls out all the stops, no matter the hour of the day.

Nick Warren (The Soundgarden) – “The original mix is amazing.”
Hard Ton (Toy Tonics) – “All of the versions are great!”
Black Mighty Wax (Irma Records) – “The original version will fit perfectly in my radio show.”
Kosta (Vibe FM) – “Great vibe, I’ll play this out.”

Sandro Bianchi (Ibiza Sonica) – “Great original, brilliant remixes.”
Velanche (Urban Landscapes Show) – “The Paper Street Soul mix is groovy, that’s the one for me.”
Hober Mallow (Mighty Reel) – “Great original, and very cool remixes here. Will support.”
Zach Van Lue (91x) – “Cool remixes. I play the original often, so it’s cool to mix it up.”
DJ Nova (Rodon FM 95) – “From its lo-fi, hazy guitar to the gentle club oriented nineties flavored architecture the Paper Street Soul Remix is made to be played to wider audiences.”

Lucky Sun featuring Alison David - Deep Love (Lucky Sun Recordings)

Lucky Sun (Tom Lown) and vocalist Alison David join forces to deliver the fresh new single “Deep Love.”

Sounding like summer never ended, “Deep Love” grooves from the very start, sounding like a cross between Lovebirds and Crazy P, and opens up into a deep house masterwork with soulful, Balearic leanings.

Alison David (Red Snapper, The Black Science Orchestra, Bugz In The Attic) pours positive vibes into the track with a storytelling style of spoken word and singing. Her lush vocals compliment the gently drifting strings and catchy synth lines creating the warmest of ear worms.

The release includes a special remix from Alvaro Hylander (DeepWit Recordings). Alvaro, originally from southern Spain, now residing in Belgium, graces the track with his signature deep, warm, and organic sound, making perfect use of the original’s vocals and instrumentation. Top notch all around.
