Emapea - Zoning Out Volume 2 (Cold Busted)

With his acclaimed debut album Seeds, Roots & Fruits, an inclusion on Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 8, and notable Cold Busted compilation appearances, the Polish beat-master Emapea has been a producer to watch. Early in 2018 he unveiled Zoning Out, Volume 1, an album intended for chilling while deep in thought, or for getting into that crucial head-nod zone, like when the DJ drops the dopest beat. With listeners ready for more rhythmic brain-food, Emapea provides with the anticipated next installment: Zoning Out, Volume 2.

Developing the theme of Volume 1, Emapea takes his jazzy sensibilities and fresh drum patterns and ups the ante, delivering 18 mandatory cuts that swerve and shimmy while exhibiting pure dopeness. Take “Last Cypher,” which is an infectious funk-hip-hop hybrid that flows with more than a few surprise embellishments. There’s also the low-rider spy-hop of “Big Small Talks”; “Tantra” with its smooth, old school ride; the sensual boom bap of “Blue Almonds”; and the infectious, latin-lounge-tinged “Rainy Day”.

These are no-nonsense beat compositions, perfect for thinking, for grooving, for dreaming, for zoning out. Emapea and Cold Busted come correct once again.

Emapea - Zoning Out Volume 1 (Cold Busted)

Emapea, the renowned beat-maker from Poland, burst upon the scene with multiple compilation appearances on Cold Busted, an inclusion on Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 8, and his stunning debut album Seeds, Roots & Fruits. Fans and headz worldwide have been clamoring for a follow-up, but all Emapea wanted to do was just ‘zone out.’ And that’s what happened, with the release of Emapea’s twenty song album Zoning Out, Volume 1.

Emapea’s cuts are meant for the listener to get lost in – but they’re not only for chilling, or when deep in thought, but also for getting in that crucial head-nod zone, like when the DJ drops the dopest beat. Expertly crafted and sequenced, the album presents a boom-bap journey that’s dreamy and spacey while remaining tough and jazzy. “Check It Out” exemplifies the mood with its smooth drums, chiming keys, subtle sax riffs, and hip hop shout-outs. The vibe expands on “Motion”, adding an exotic, worldly flavor to the seductively loping rhythm. And “Classy” features a smokey saloon piano melody that cruises smugly out of jeep-beat speakers. This track was recently featured on a limited postcard record, mailed surreptitiously to lucky Emapea supporters.

Zoning Out, Volume 1 defines Emapea as an artist to watch on the international beat scene. Pay attention as Volume 2 will be continuing the journey in later months.

Emapea - Seeds, Roots & Fruits (Cold Busted)

Accomplished Polish beat-maker Emapea has made memorable appearances on many Cold Busted label compilations – such as in the IWYMI and Bust Free series – and has been selected for inclusion in Mark Farina's next Mushroom Jazz installment. All this activity has mouths watering for the debut full length album from Emapea, and the appearance of Seeds, Roots & Fruits doesn't disappoint one bit. Featuring sixteen exceptional tracks ranging from hip hop to acid jazz to psychedelic trip hop in the style of Mo'Wax, Emapea's long player is indeed, as a wise man once said, "a journey into sound." Highlights include the sample-rific "Enjoy" which includes smooth key and saxophone riffs, "Good Old Days" with its appealing old school hip hop flavor, the spacey tones of "Milky Haze" and "Yugen", and the floor-filling breakbeat funk of "What The Funk". Containing moments both dance-oriented and pensive, Seeds, Roots & Fruits rises above the average beats album to reveal the enduring depth of this young producer … Emapea is one to watch.

Emapea's Seeds, Roots & Fruits is available from Cold Busted on 12" vinyl, cassette tape, compact disc, and 24 bit download. Distributed by Fat Beats.
