Childhood friends Scotty Marz and Erin Paul bust forth from The Big Apple with DiscObeta and the jam-tastic new single “Rare Formz.” Previously releasing on the likes of Breakbeat Paradise and Left Hand Lucy Recordings, DiscObeta has landed on Super Hi-Fi Recordings with one of their strongest cuts yet. Flaunting a boom-bap beat, some Bootsy-filtered bass lines, a jubilant horn section, and a stick-in-yer-head keyboard melody, “Rare Formz” is ready to delight on all fronts — from the DJ set to crash pad listening sessions.
A trio a solid remixes round out the single. Jayl Funk (Timewarp Music, Bombastic Jam) is up first, delivering the party vibes with summer breeze guitars, cool vinyl scratches and hip hop drops, and an overall good-times feel. The duo of Jack & Jointz (Chinchin Records, Timewarp) is up next, adding some electronic flavors to the mix including bass synch squelches and cool vocal cut-ups. Suddenly a cranking saxophone enters and takes this one home. The single closes out with a killer rework by the Minsk-based Funky Boogie Brothers. The tune opens in a ‘70s pimp-mobile fashion before the beats slam in and the tracks takes off on a swinging b-boy romp. The vibe is truly alive on “Rare Formz.”
