Hawke - WarPeace (2018 Remixes) [Hardkiss Music]

The 2018 remixes of Hawke’s single “WarPeace” dig further into a world of dance floor possibilities. New York’s DJ Onionz provides a haunting melodic excursion into techno realms with his Savagely Angelic Mix, while the Curious Yellow Mix by Gavin Hardkiss takes an airy gypset approach with minimal afro percussion and flying synth flourishes.

In 2017, Hardkiss Music released remixes of “WarPeace” included a version by Desert Hearts founder Lee Reynolds which is available on limited leopard jellyfish vinyl at www.hardkiss.org

Hawke was created by Gavin Hardkiss as a series of sound clashes, musical experiments, and collaborations that steer off the path of convention. In 2017, the Hawke album Love in Stars was released through a crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMusic. It runs riot through indie dance, deep house, ambient, and funk modalities. While paying homage to artists like The Stone Roses, The KLF, Bonobo, and MGMT, it manages to weave a story of its own.

Hawke - WarPeace (Hardkiss Music)

Welcome to the world of Hawke and the second single from the forthcoming album Love In Stars.

On the A-side, “WarPeace” is a full frontal assault of the psyche with an illumination of opposing forces. WAR. PEACE. SUN. MOON. Producer Gavin Hardkiss offers a transcendental sound to help pull you out of your hardened shell.

A complementary remix by Papa Lee Reynolds (Desert Hearts) adds darker overtones that will thrill at desert parties and renegades with its tripped-out, unrelenting drive. Hardkiss and Desert Hearts span a generation of electronic dance music influence in California. The collaboration looks to the future with a sound and message that is relevant now more than ever.

Lee Reynolds says “This remix of WarPeace is the first collaboration between myself and my longtime friend Memo Rex. We first met in 2004 when I booked him to play a night I was throwing in San Diego. Twelve years later we finally made it into the studio together! While keeping some key elements of the track we wanted to add some of our bass driven chunky house flavor. Hope you like it.”

On the B-side, “Ganga Dances with the Swan” is an ode to what this future will be after we move through the darkness. Words by White Lotus Foundation’s Ganga White. Vocals by Araceli Santos De Bieber, Gavin Hardkiss and Robbie Hardkiss. Recorded on a whim in the Hardkiss Studios in San Rafael, California. This song is already an inspirational fixture on Hardkiss dance floors and a staple last song of the night.

Gavin Hardkiss is a South African born DJ and music producer based in California. He makes albums under the name Hawke and runs a little outfit called Hardkiss Music.

Billie Ray Martin (Disco Activisto Records) – “All of these tracks are pretty damn good. Gavin Hardkiss’ Mix with that electronic bass hook makes my day. Fabulous release!”

Delusions of Grandeur B-Sides (Hardkiss Music)

“It’s a rare and dangerous sensation to cup an atomic bomb in your hands.” - Terry Matthew

Originally released on vinyl only, these three tracks were B-sides of singles that appeared on the 1995 classic Hardkiss double album Delusions of Grandeur. If Delusions… was the bomb, then these three moody remixes are some radioactive fallout from that initial blast of electronic dance music creativity.

Raincry” by God Within was Scott Hardkiss’ breakthrough single. It began with a tribal chant sample in a small garage in Twin Peaks, San Francisco. Within the year, that chant was being dropped by DJs all around the world. This mix has a slower burn than the A-side, but all the epic emotion and drama.

3 Moods in a Gurple Pardon” is Robbie Hardkiss’ remix of Gavin Hardkiss’ first single as Hawke. Here, the unique tech / break / house meditation “3 Nudes in a Purple Garden” gets funked up with latin percussion and a stomping bass line added to the ethereal melodies of the original.

Steal From The Rich” is also a Robbie remix. This one is a slowed down, funked up reworking of God Within’s “The Phoenix.” Recorded in Nottingham at DIY Studios, this DC Go-Go inspired mix is quite the departure from the big, banging mixes on the original single by Rabbit in the Moon and Scott Hardkiss.

Tommie Sunshine (Brooklyn Fire / Ultra) – “This is the definitive sound of SF 90's Rave. Very happy to have these on hand!”
Chris Fortier (Fade) – “Can’t miss classics….”
Nick Warren (Hope Recordings / Way Out West) – “Sounding as ace as ever!”
Vanilla Ace - “Nice one!”
Duserock (Sleeper Cell / EMDM) – “You can't go wrong here.”
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch) – “Raincry is one of my all-time favourites and this version does not disappoint.”
Christian Martin (Dirtybird) – “Stone cold classic.”
Pepe Link (Pacha Mallorca) – “Raincry is awesome, love it!”
Liquid Todd (Sirius XM Radio / BPM) – “Hawke rules!”
Leigh Morgan (Urban Torque Transmissions Syndicated Radio Show) – “Raincry still sounds perfect after all this time.”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle radio show) – “These are fantastic. There is little that hasn't been said in praise of the Hardkiss sound - utterly unique and timeless is what it means to me and these carry on their story beautifully. 10/10”
