San Francisco house music imprint House On The Hill returns with “Gravity’s Pull,” the latest track from label leader Ed Mazur backed by remixes from Brett Johnson and Emanate.
Over the last several years Brett Johnson has earned himself a reputation for making quality house music with a techno edge. Brett’s passion for combining his love of R&B, disco, house, and techno results in one cohesive body of music that explores rhythmic and melodic complexities while keeping the groove and soul intact. Releases with labels like Classic Music Company, Aesoteric, Cynosure, Freerange, and his own Bang The Box imprint have yielded a stunningly consistent track record of top tunes. Brett’s first remix for House on the Hill brings a quirky and skippy tech house edge to “Gravity’s Pull” as a throbbing sub bass guides the way.
The San Francisco based duo Emanate (aka Nathan Vain & Emily Fox) provide the next remix. This duo is rapidly making their mark on the tech house world with their label Mioli (Move It Or Lose It) which showcases a mix of their own productions and remixes alongside other up-and-coming artists. They are both long time DJs who have played at parties all over San Francisco as well as a staple for several years with the massive Opulent Temple Burning Man camp. Their remix of “Gravity’s Pull” brings a clever blend and balance of deep, driving, and edgy elements to the track. Backwards bass tones, crisp synth melodies, and dubby rhythmic elements give this one a dose of dancefloor class.
The original “Gravity’s Pull” is recorded by San Francisco’s Ed Mazur, a longtime regular on the city’s house music scene. Mazur first garnered notice with his floor-shaking house remix of Radiohead’s “A Punchup At A Wedding”, released on vinyl on the Tweekin Records run Fresh Press imprint. He is also known for his epic Burning Man sets as a resident with the Green Gorilla Lounge and now Disco Knights camps. Fans of melodic tech-house will appreciate “Gravity’s Pull” as three different lead synths take turns throughout before the four-on-the-floor beat finally gives way to a breakbeat inspired breakdown. Massive kettle drum fills create tension while a panorama of vocal hits and samples go after the senses.
