Dj Daniel D - What Is House (294 Records)

DJ Daniel D's latest single on 294 Records poses the genre's most fundamental question ... the Brazilian producer's "What Is House" arrives as a three-track exploration, each version offering its own compelling answer through sound rather than words.

TheOriginal Mix serves as a love letter to house music's golden age, where staccato piano chords dance atop filtered disco basslines. Its buoyant synth riffs and incendiary drum programming capture the essence of those transcendent dance floor moments when time seems to stand still.

The duo Paul et Luc transform the track with their signature touch, injecting Moroder-inspired bass patterns and soaring string arrangements that build to euphoric heights. Meanwhile, Nytron, son of Brazilian music royalty Pepeu Gomes and Baby, takes the track into deeper territory. His remix growls with subsonic intensity and spatial awareness, nodding to UK garage while maintaining the original's celebratory spirit.

This release demonstrates how house music's seemingly simple formula continues to yield fresh interpretations, adding another distinct chapter in an ongoing conversation about the house music's endless possibilities.

Tommy D Funk (Good For You Records) – “Wicked track. The Original Mix is the one.”

Nytron - I Wanna See You (Discobox Records)

Discobox Records' opening release for 2015 adds a fresh face into its mix with Nytron. The humble Brazilian party-turned-label continues its vision of re-imagining ’70s disco and the classic house sounds that followed with modern nu-disco and tech-house sheen. Nytron certainly fits the bill … with releases on respected labels such KMS, Bunny Tiger, and Sleazy Deep, the well-versed producer / DJ has raised the international profile of Brazil for house and techno in over a decade and a half of output. Listeners can continue to expect nothing but high quality work this talent.

On "I Wanna See You", Nytron delivers an amazing floor burner that exits between nu-disco and tech house, using fresh synths, pumping bass lines, and a superb original vocal. He knows exactly how to entertain, combining elements like drum fills, filters, and breaks to build suspense. The final result surely raises the bar for the Discobox label.

Shake Machine, a project by long time friends and veteran Brazilian house artists Daniel D and Robinho, are back in the studio, delivering the first of two included remixes. Using only the original vocal they construct an entirely new track, bringing back the late '80s acid house vibe. Expect massive 303 riffs, 808 and 909 drum hits, and more of the usual funky stuff from the guys who rocked the floor with their most recent single, "Eu Quero É House".

Rounding off the release, another new artist joins the Discobox gang. Gustavo Peluzo is the talented resident DJ of Deputamadre Club and his remix emphasizes the vibe of the original track, but lends it a more beefed up presence -- the obvious choice for the tech lovers out there.

Lupe Fuentes (Inhouse Records) - "I love the Shake Machine remix … dope dope dope!"

Various Artists - Our Disco Vol. 1 (Discobox Records)

One year after Discobox Records' debut release, the label is proud to present its first compilation: Our Disco Vol. 1. As the name suggests, Our Disco will be a series presenting fresh music from the label’s already established roster in addition to new faces joining the cast.

Opening the pack is De Pin Up Club, an artist known for work that stands as a testament to his musical inspirations, quoting its history, but always adding in new ideas. The feel good disco of "New York Groove" draws from the Paradise Garage … and ever-so-tastefully. Rhythmic guitar and chic vocals combine with old school synths for a spin underneath the disco ball.

Dansoul, the production alter ego of DJ Daniel D, explores nu-disco influenced by '90s house rhythms on "Get Down". He uses Moog synths and a resonating bass line with hip-house vocals for plenty of bounce per ounce.

Next, two very well known names in the Brazilian music scene join the label. Alvinho L. Noise and Nytron drench piano chords in filters on "Say What", a superb work that lays down an infectious bass groove and a punchy beat accentuated by cowbell hits.

Zister is another well known talent from Brazil. With its bass line on overdrive, funky, wailing electric key riff, and hard hitting percussive groove, "Rise For Love" is a dance floor force to be reckoned with.

Rounding the package out is DJ Juliano Maia’s Funk4Mass project. A track characterized by broken beat electro-funk with booty bass, "Shake" is full of fat sounds. The accompanying vocals are primitive and straight to the point.

From disco to house, blending nu-disco, tech-house, and classic old school electro sounds, this is what Discobox is all about. Get into the groove!

Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - “Wonderful … right on time.”
Tensnake - “I like ‘New York Groove.’”
Chris Todd (Crazy P / Hot Toddy) - “Really feeling the much more off-the-wall ‘Shake’ … good stuff.”

Lorenzo al Dino (7th District) - “Perfect package of tracks! I specifically like Dansoul’s ‘Get Down.’”

Marcia Carr (Mi-Soul Radio / Ladyz) - “Old school vibes on the real house tip on 'Say What' -- which is fab -- and 'Shake' is a delightful electro funk gem.”
Myxzlplix (Subdivisions Global Radio Show, San Diego) - “This is nu-disco done right … so much goodness to play out here.”
