Peter Corvaia - Evening Influence (Dance:Revolt Recordings)

On its latest release Dance:Revolt Recordings has snatched up a superb four song EP from prolific Boston-based producer Peter Corvaia. With an album recently released through petFood, as well as singles for the likes of Circle Music, Biatch Corp, and Carica Records, Corvaia is firmly establishing himself as a rising name within the realm of groovy, forward-leaning house music. The cuts on the Evening Influence EP extend his reputation further, exhibiting impressive sonic quality and dance floor readiness. The title cut grabs attention straight away with its big, modulated bass line weaving around strange vocal cut-ups and moody synth pads. “Flor” continues the journey with a funky machine rhythm and another large bass part leading the way into a lush vocal and string motif. “Late” strips back the formula, revealing its title to be a clue as to this track’s suitable placement in late, late night DJ sets. Filtered chords, reverb-ed percussion, and sparse splashes of voice conspire to make this cut a stand-out. The mid-tempo “Wreck It” closes out the set, featuring a hypnotic, rhythmic bounce accompanied by melodic analog synth play and just the right amount of catchy vocal hits.
