Tom Lown returns with a new single from his acclaimed Lucky Sun project and it’s another moving collaboration with vocalist Alison David (Red Snapper, The Black Science Orchestra, Bugz In The Attic). “Rain & Sunshine” is a glorious mid-tempo affair, recalling the best moments of ‘90s British electronic soul. The beats are crisp and groovy, the instrumentation warm and full, and the chorus reveals a fantastic, jazzy bass line. On top of it all, Alison delivers something special with her lovely voice and uplifting lyrics. Top notch.
The first of two classy remixes comes from the prolific Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch, BBE) who takes the track in an exciting new direction. Arpeggiated melodies, bright, dramatic piano, and a new choral structure compliment Alison’s vocals in surprising ways. Next up is Tim Haze (Tidy Taps) with an emotive and dreamy downtempo interpretation. The lush pads swell hypnotically around spare rhythms and gorgeous vocals, resulting in a delightful soundtrack to sunsets and sunrises alike.
