Eric Shans & X Miss Ella - Leather Sweater (Viva Recordings)

Brooklyn’s Eric Shans enters the Viva Recordings zone, accompanied by vocalist X Miss Ella. The duo have been working together for many years, Ella’s melodies and vocal style blending perfectly with Eric’s musical creations. Inspired by new wave as well as techno and house music, the two have collaborated on material ranging from sultry synth pop to dark and dirty deep house floor chuggers.

Falling into the second category, “Leather Sweater” is an evocative late night club cut that adds a dose of mood and texture to a DJ’s set. X Miss Ella enchants with a mesmerizing vocal line as Eric’s deep foundation builds into acid line-fueled bliss. The crisp and intricate rhythms point the way forward and keep the nightclub in solid motion. Definitely one for the heads.

Los Angeles producer Tonally — coming off remixes for the likes of Futurewife and Punks Jump Up — takes things up a notch with a driving version that features pulsating, hypnotic synth pads and dramatic stabs. The vocal becomes mysterious, reversed and effected at points throughout the mix. The energy keeps building throughout — a satisfying excursion.

Dubs for both mixes are also available to take the dance floor even deeper. So, let’s see how you look in a “Leather Sweater.”

Tony H - Piano Ain't Easy (Viva Recordings)

Viva welcomes the return of Tony H — the Panamanian sensation — with a club-primed new double A-side single. As the proprietor of his Late Night Munchies and Munchies After Dark imprints, as well as regular supporting slots with the biggest DJ names touching down in Panama, Tony H — AKA Anthony Henderson — has developing a growing global following. His popular mix series — The Drive-Thru — can be heard each month, inspiring an ‘every 4th Wednesday’ club event. Recognizing Tony H’s talent and this pair of killer tracks, Viva was eager to bring him back on board the label.

The single opens with the moody “Piano Ain’t Easy” and its steady, snapping rhythm and percussive effects. The proverbial piano enters with Detroit-inspired chord play, occasionally filtered and cut-up to match the beats. This one’s for peak time at the dance den. On the flip side, “Fool Me Once” takes a deeper path with swirling pads, a crisp drum track, and a beguiling vocal hook. The track is sublime, introducing arpeggiated melodies, dark background stabs, and spacious reverb hits as it progresses. The late night just got a whole lot later.

Laurent Garnier (F Communications) – “Superb deepness – will play for sure.”
Vanilla Ace (Toolroom) – “Nice summer vibes.”
Mr. V (Sole Channel Music) – “Super Dope. Will push.”

My Soul” opens the EP, announcing itself with a swinging, crisp four-on-the-floor rhythm. It’s here to add a pensive but flowing flair to late night dance sessions. “With the Stars” closes the release on an even deeper note, hypnotizing with pulsing pads, deep subs, and a drum pattern accentuated with a clap that warmly hugs the stereo field.
