Nickodemus - Back In The Days (Wonderwheel Recordings)

Wonderwheel Recordings is pleased to present Back In The Days, the first taste of the brand new Nickodemus album coming in 2014. Touring and collaborating with musicians all over the world since 1996, Nickodemus is continuing his impressive streak. Recently when Joyce Muniz introduced Nickodemus to NY hip-hop artist Baby Bam (The Jungle Brothers) at a festival in Sicily, the two had more in common then they could have ever imagined. One of Nickodemus’ biggest musical influences has been the Native Tongue Movement of the ’90s, so they already spoke the same language and knew they had to work together. The Real Live Show, the barrier-breaking duo of Stimulus and Malik Work, have collaborated on several past songs with Nickodemus including “Give the Drummer Some,” “Sun Children,” “Gimme the Music,” “Moon People,” and more.

Back In The Days" is the meeting of these minds, all quick to the concept of going back to their NYC roots. BAM takes listeners to the ’80s while Stimulus and Malik Work aim for the ’90s. The song hits hard with a hip-hop (read: electro-funk) groove meets acid house style and tempo. Nickodemus goes solo on "The 303 Scenario" which does what it says on the tin, developing into a thick but fun acid track. Both of these songs and the alternate Hip House version of “Back In The Days” would work over any dancehall.

This is the call to arms of Wonderwheel Recordings and Nickodemus - “You know how we used to do it Back in the Days!" - sure to resonate with DJs and dancers anywhere with a fond past, a pleasant present, and an excitement about the future.

Sid Vaga - Na Na Ye / Manouche (Wonderwheel Recordings)

NYC (via Paris) based DJ and producer Sid Vaga returns to Nickodemus’ Wonderwheel Recordings with another 12“ full of exotic deep house vibes sure to light up dance floors everywhere. It’s an impressive follow-up to his genuinely well-received ”Brazuca“ single from earlier in the year. On the A side, Sid delivers ”Na Na Ye“, a driving cut with a pulsing bass line and hypnotic African chant that pushes the tune forward before getting flipped into a percussive section alongside deep and subtle synths. On the flip ”Manouche“ can be found, a late night house tune with psychedelic Balkan guitars and swirling Gypsy vocal samples punctuating the track. Rounding out the single, Valencian producer Oscar Barila (Plastic City, Kling Klong) gives ”Manouche” a truly funky remix with a squelchy ’80s ‘new wave’ style bass line, thumping house beat, and irresistible synth work coming together for a real after hours nightclub workout.

Nick Warren - “Oscar Barila’s remix for me.”

Sid Vaga - Brazuca (Wonderwheel Recordings)

There’s eight million stories in New York City, and if you’re in the know, there’s a refreshing movement of bodies several stories above the Manhattan street bars and clubs in secret lofts and apartments. One of these reoccurring parties is Roland’s Six Degrees, with Sid Vaga providing the sonic backbone. After over ten years of heavy dance-floor smashing, Sid steps into the studio to make some of his own sounds, presented here via Nickodemus’ Wonderwheel Recordings. Starting as a music lover in his native Paris, 1999 is the year Sid Vaga took control of the turntables. Since then, he’s played in lounges, clubs and hotels all over the Americas (North, Latin, and South). Sid has DJ’ed aside many renown DJ’s and friends like Roy Davis Jr., Nickodemus, Ursula 1000, Matthias Heilbronn, Rich Medina, and Gilles Peterson (during an underground set at the Getdown Party III). “Brazuca" showcases Sid Vaga’s original Latin/Brazilian house signature sound filled with percussion, funky bass, and straight-driving backbeats that make for a solid party starter. The B side goes a notch deeper and heavier as D’Sol from Paris remixes “Brazuca” with additional electronics and moodier sounds. Together, these two tracks balance the 12” for both early and late-night dance-floors. It’s another fine, exotic track to tempt the DJs from Wonderwheel.

Roger Sanchez - “Sexy!”
Robert Owens - “The ‘Brazuca (D’Sol Remix)' is a great track and mix.”

Quincy Jointz (Timewarp Music / Ibiza Global Radio) -  ”A very nice EP. Both versions bring back summertime to me.”
All Good Funk Alliance (Funk Weapons / Super Hi-Fi) - “Nice Latin House jam.”
Santos (Yoruba Records) - “Dope! I love the percussion!”
Basement Freaks (Goodgroove / Manmade) - “Diggin’ this release.”
Danny Massure (Spring Strut / Ticklejunk) -  ”Sweet Latin House grooves.”
Stereo 77 (Research Deluxe / Filtered Sunshine Radio) - “I have been dropping the ‘D’Sol Remix' in my sets for a couple of weeks now … Perfect for the lounge and rooftop vibe.”
