Demarkus Lewis - I Just Wanna Vibe (Viva Recordings)

With a multi-page discography of releases dating back over 15 years, Demarkus Lewis is one of the hardest working men in house music, regularly adding to his diverse string of underground floor fillers. Mastering many house styles, Demarkus has released tech-house bombs on Nervous Records, soulful nuggets on Kingstreet Soundz, hypnotizing afro-rhythms on Slip n Slide, and everything in-between on his own Grin Music imprint. Demarkus now returns to his home-away-from-home Viva Recordings for the fantastic single “I Just Wanna Vibe.”

The track launches with Demarkus’s patented tough, swinging beats followed by a bouncy techno bass line. House chords and stereo-swirling vocal stabs quickly enter the sonic space. An interplay of pads and the spoken-sung words — “I just wanna vibe!” — inject additional electricity into the track. And then, as a bonus, Demarkus pares down the arrangement a notch for a gritty dub version. Late nights look out – these cuts are pure vibe, indeed.

DJ Patti Kane - Resilience (TMG Records)

An underground house music legend, DJ Patti Kane began DJ’ing in the early ‘90s and hasn’t looked back since. Based in Newark, NJ, she was inspired after witnessing Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage and was mentored by Deep Master Ryan of World Paradise. Continuing to build on these roots, Patti runs Women On Decks and produces her House Royalty mix series, nearing 350 mixed episodes. And now she’s joined forces with the dedicated house-heads at TMG Records for the release of her bangin’ new single, “Resilience.”

A soulful slice of deep house elegance, “Resilience” opens with a tough kick drum, a groovy guitar riff, and atmospheric bell-like pads. The song develops with more musical layers providing the backdrop for a jazzy live flute line. Soon a saxophone joins the flute, and then an uplifting trumpet solo takes the track home. In addition to this original ride, the single features an ‘expansion’ that focuses on the flute riffs and a ‘rhythm edit’ which concentrates on the track’s groove. These sounds will deliver late night dance floor bliss.

Stan Forebee - Second Home (Cold Busted)

Music surrounds the life of Stan Forebee (AKA Bastiaan van der Vlist). Raised by a musical family in The Netherlands, Stan started young with classical piano, moved onto jazz, and then settled into the hip hop and neo-soul beats and textures inspired by artists like J Dilla, Flying Lotus, and Bibio. Many tracks were released another alias — Beatsofreen — and Stan’s tunes found their way on the likes of Vinyl Digital and Chillhop Music. Now, with the 4-song Second Home EP, Stan Forebee joins the Cold Busted fam for the third installment in the label’s Jet Set series.

The vibe is laid-back and melodic, as “Flying Dew” opens the Second Home EP with a filtered piano floating into a pensive beat concoction. A cool jazzy bass line is here to get the heads nodding. “Two Faces” follows with an especially catchy shuffle, adding muted guitar riffs and electric piano runs. “Dilladong” transmits its influence in its title, with tremelo’ed e-piano and plucky synth melodies playing over a chill boom-bap beat. The title track closes it out the EP in a dreamy style — it’s got that reassuring warmth of arriving after long travels. A second home is still a home, and it feels so good.

Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister) – “Great tracks. Love the vibe and production.”
Kid Loco (Flor) – “Brilliant and clever. Thank you for this one.”

Anatoly Ice (Funk and Beyond Radio Show) – “Perfect, groovy, laidback and jazzy beats.”
Floored Capri (Kane FM) – “Dusty, Jazzy, with exquisite head-nodding beats reminiscent of hazy times exploring Amsterdam.”
Aja Allsop (Ketch A Vibe Radio Show) – “This just moves along at a pace that suits a slow long walk through some long forgotten city back streets.”

Ivan Dbri - The Love I Own (Harmonious Discord)

Ivan Dbri, Mexico’s maestro of deep, drops his third full length album on Harmonious Discord with The Love I Own, a collection of love songs drawing inspiration from deep house, lo-fi house, and techno. Ivan Dbri has been contributing to the HD imprint for over 10 years, a remarkable and fruitful relationships that’s led to this special release. Reminiscent of early works by Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Jr., Ivan blends staccato percussion with ultra-lush soundscapes, creating dynamic and musical compositions to touch the soul.

A musically complex intro, “Prelude to Sex” features organic percussion that lifts effortlessly into dance territory. Deep and romantic house music compositions like “When the Music Feels Like Crying” and “Endless” help listeners dive deep into their heads and propagate beauty in their surroundings. “Knowledge Base” enters lush dance territory with colliding house chords and synthetic accents floating lightly over rich pads. “Sodoma and Gomorra” brings similar depth but with the pads in the back seat. It features musical trills and uplifting accents amid a tense bass construction. “What True Love Is All About” and “The Love I Own” return to deep house territory with heavy lo-fi and breakbeat elements showing Ivan’s ability to construct timeless music with range and depth. The breakdown in the “The Love I Own” creates a weightless atmosphere and floats listeners into uncharted depths. “Love Letters For You” is an HD favorite; the perfect blend of music and technology. Tense chord lifts and light techno drum constructions make it a perfect tool for any set. “Danke” closes out the album with a tribute to vocal house. Swung percussion, fat square bass lines, and cut-up vocals provide a proper send off to this delicious album.
