Carlos Curmi - The Trumpet (Encore Recordings)

Based on the island of Malta, Carlos Curmi has been instrumental for the past two decades in championing soulful house music on the Mediterranean archipelago. Carlos has a history in the London scene, as well, spearheading the infamous Encore afterhours. He recently launched a label under the Encore Recordings name, and the latest is Carlos's rousing peak-time house cut "The Trumpet." The track features tribal-leaning rhythms, a rolling sub-bass line, and the titular trumpet, signaling that now's the time to pack the dance floor. Sparse but powerful, "The Trumpet" is an effective cut that should find a place in the virtual bag of many DJs.

Eric Davenport (Mind Loop Music) – “This one has all the right elements.”
Wilbour Craddock (Groovewest) – “This is a straight up floor filler.”
Eric Shans (3Bridge Records) – “Bumpin’.”
Darrell Stout (Next Level) – “Soooo haunting.”
Deepshizzol (MyHouse YourHouse radio) – “Stonking track!”
Ray Colclough (WLR FM) – “This one is a bit of fun.”

Chad Will - Sky Be Blue (Colour & Pitch)

Austin-based producer Chad Will makes his Colour and Pitch label debut with "Sky Be Blue," presented with remixes by label regular Finest Wear and New York duo Sleepy & Boo.

A warm and intricate deep house cut, "Sky Be Blue" showcases Chad Will's mastery of analog and outboard gear as well as original sound design. Austin-based and Chicago-raised, Will got his first break back in 2006 when he won a Beatport remix contest with his version of "Breathe" by Danny Howells. A stop-start music career followed, but a heart attack in 2020 forced Chad to think about what was important to him, and he began making music again in earnest. Colour and Pitch is excited to be releasing this first offering from Chad's new clutch of productions, which all feel like they carry the joy and optimism that can only come from a brand new appreciation for life itself.

Releasing on the Colour and Pitch label since its very beginning, Finest Wear turns in a typically smooth and ever-so-slightly twisted take on "Sky Be Blue," with a special groove that just keeps on rolling.

DJs, party-throwers, and talented producers Sleepy & Boo are an integral part of New York City's vibrant underground scene. Their version of "Sky Be Blue" combines techno rhythms with vintage prog-synth chords to concoct a unique sonic blend that will surely do the trick for late-night sessions.

Tom Lown / Lucky Sun (Lucky Sun Recordings) – “Perfect Deep Vibes Here. Some nice original elements going on in all 3 versions.”
DJ Samuel Lawrence (R Side Records) – “Very nice! Deep and gooey on the vibes, has that big bassline to push you through. Will play for sure.”

Steve ‘Griffo’ Griffiths (Subspace radio show) – “Nice retro bouncy house groover from Finest Wear.”

Boblebad - Tidlig Oppe (Beatservice Records)

Creative polyglot Boblebad is back with his latest Beatservice offering, serving up four stirring tracks on the powerfully emotive Tidlig Oppe EP.

Ulf Moen Denneche – better known by his familiar Boblebad moniker – has artistic juice coursing through his very being. Endowed with a formidable creative flair, the producer, musician, and painter has been a much-loved Beatservice mainstay since making his label debut in 2021. With a stylistically adventurous sound that stubbornly refuses to rest in generic boxes, he's released music on some of the electronic underground's most important labels – joyfully meandering through Balearic soundscapes, simmering deep house, and proudly uncompromising electronica.

The EP launches with the hyper-atmospheric title track, "Tidlig Oppe." Here, a sturdy four-four rhythm powers waves of harmonic textures, with luscious chords gliding over throbbing bass as phasing pads. Spacey synth motifs intertwine across propulsive conga lines. Continuing the refined forward motion, "Stoisk Uro" steadily builds over warm bass strokes and energetic drums, with evocative synth solos soaring over undulating pads as free-flowing percussion adds a glorious dynamism to the emotionally-charged harmonics.

"Klam Klem" maintains a characteristically sumptuous sound palette, with tom-heavy drums cutting through space-age pads as staccato synth refrains deliciously ebb and flow over an undulating ever-building groove. Finally, "Kruttugle" completes a sparkling set in a suitably enigmatic style. Snappy drums and loose-knit percussion saunter over thick bass as fizzing pads usher in a soul-searing lead melody, and the affecting chord progressions are joined by bubbling arpeggios for a life-affirming climax.

As ever, this is compelling work from Boblebad. Imbued with more than enough weight to stir esoteric floors, the emotionality that permeates the music augments the rhythms with a profundity that sets it apart from the strictly club-focused — ensuring the collection is equally suited to both introspective meditations and energetic dance abandon.

Jon Fugler (Fluke) – “Stoisk Uro ticking every box for me here – perfect for a blissed out sunrise.”
Nick Warren (The Soundgarden) – “This is a super good EP.”
Scheibosan (Shanti Roots) – “Some nice cosmic house here.”
Wilbour Craddock (Groovewest) – “Layers of deep goodness.”
DJ Firefly (Couch Dancing) – “Sexy off-kilter funky techno – yum!”
Jon Wesley (Music Goes On Radio Show) – “Tidlig Oppe and Klam Klem are my favorites, but I like them all. Nice production and different sounds make it a winner for me.”
