Blue Soul feat. Marissa Guzman - Summer Trip (Roam Recordings)

Roam Recordings gears up for another exciting summer season with “Summer Trip,” a breezy new single from San Francisco’s Blue Soul. Known to friends and family as Scott Boutin, Blue Soul has been spotted issuing singles for the likes of Whiskey Pickle, Thoughtless, and 3AM Devices as well as more experimental music under the moniker Archetypewriter. For “Summer Trip,” Blue Soul is joined by accomplished vocalist Marissa Guzman who has previously lent her lovely voice to Dermarkus Lewis’ “Get Yourself Together” and recently released Joy Road, her acclaimed solo album.

Heavily influenced by the west coast vibe, “Summer Trip” gives a special nod to the infamous three day Sunset camp-outs hosted by the beloved Pacific Sound crew in Northern California. Its faint, gauzy notes and hollow kicks create a lucid, dreamy landscape, centered around a swirling, congenial vocal from Marissa that sets a distinct tone for the rest of the release. Following in close suit, the Belden Acid Mix (named after the quaint host town of Belden) calls on a similar, smooth, festive feeling but kicks things up a notch, adding punchy kicks and a hint of acid into the equation. Next up, the Feather River Dub continues to push Marissa into the mix, showcasing her gorgeous vocal stylings alongside big ivory keys and meandering synths. Her seductive, soulful voice will be sure to soften up even the stiffest of dance floors.

In keeping with the summer theme, veteran UK remixer/producer and all-around studio boffin Ray Mang supplies a remix present in three versions - Vocal, Instrumental, and Extended - to suit the DJ’s preference. Flexing his incredulous knack for creating timeless disco dance classics, Mang’s vocal and instrumental versions inject a bubbly, percussive flair while keeping the summer vibe fully in tact. Marked by jarring, distorted lead synths, Mang’s carefree POV more than shines through without failing to provide an added, but subtle, edge to this otherwise impossibly sleek assortment of amicable tunes. It’s a perfect summer soundtrack for any and all house and disco aficionados, whether one is heading up to Northern California to while away the nights with the Pacific Sound crew or dancing up a storm in an air conditioned nightclub.
