Hot Lipps Inc. - Love and Devotion (Hot Lipps Records)

The prolific boys from the Hot Lipps Records camp are back with their third release, this time with four quality chuggers and a quality remix from Myna Music’s, Da Sunlounge. Comprised of Toronto based producers Peter and Steve Primiani, formerly of 83 West Records and Camouflage Recordings, Hot Lipps Inc.’s latest EP is anchored by the bassy house music masterwork “Love and Devotion.” Opening with quirky percussive bits and a low, moody, rumbling bass line the track quickly gains floor energy with a captivating vocal and a serious late night ‘dancing under the strobe light’ vibe. Da Sunlounge gives this track the remix treatment, building the tempo and adding a sub-bass drive, bouncing analog sounds, and warm, deep chords for a classic deep house feel. Three more top Hot Lipps Inc. originals round out the release, with “Nasty Thoughts” effectively showing the funky side of deep house under warm pads, rich bass, and catchy synth bits. “Going Back” follows, bringing on the M1 bass line and a late ’90s shuffle drum style to present a retro-meets-now sound. Finally, “Mind Games” burst forth with its crisp, punchy production accented by rhythmic vocal drops, some stirring bass and string line interplay, and a few dramatic builds. Another solid package from Hot Lipps Inc. … dig in!
