Hot Lipps Inc. - Foolish Pride / High Expectations (Hot Lipps Records)

Toronto producers Hot Lipps Inc. get a little more techy with their latest Hot Lipps Records label offering. Unlike previous releases, Peter & Steve Primiani forgo any remixes on this one, simply featuring two original tracks produced, arranged, and mixed by the brothers themselves.

Foolish Pride” is the first track and it’s a dynamic tech house piece with a boisterous bass line, soft pads, and a liberal use of vocal bits.

The second track, “High Expectations,” is a textbook amalgamation of deep and tech house, featuring a masterful bass line with synths layered cleverly on top. Their veteran touch shows through well-placed percussive elements and smooth hi hats that keep the groove never sounding repetitive.

These two standalone tracks add up to another stellar release on Hot Lipps Records.

Hot Lipps Inc. - Calculated Steps (Hot Lipps Records)

After a hiatus of just two months, the boys from Hot Lipps Records are back with their seventh installment and newest endeavor, Calculated Steps. Three choice tracks written and produced by label owners Peter and Steve Primiani, aka Hot Lipps Inc., are wrapped up and delivered just in time for the holidays along with a gifted remix.

The EP starts off with the title track, a deep, moody treat and just what we have come to expect from the brothers, making use of M1 Organs, atmospheric pads, and spaced out effects. A chunky remix comes courtesy of Leipzig-based artist and Oh! Yeah! Music label boss, Sven Tasnadi (Moon Harbour, Cocoon, Poker Flat). Sven delivers a winning combination of percussive-reduced tech house.

Make Me Yours" marks the second original, opening with an effective low-set bass line. The track is a bit deep, a bit minimal, but with a ton of groove topped off by stabs, filtered pads, and vocal hooks.

Devious Tongue" closes things out with more driving bass, some funky house elements, and filtered vocals which all build up to an understated drop.

All in all, the release is a proper fix.

Hot Lipps Inc. - Could Be (Hot Lipps Records)

The sixth installment from Hot Lipps Records reminisces of lazy summer days gone by with three superb original tracks from the label owners. Comprised of Toronto-based producers Peter and Steve Primiani, formerly of 83 West Records and Camouflage Recordings, Hot Lipps Inc. hand over some heat for the upcoming winter months on the Could Be EP. It opens with the title track, a devious and blissed-out vocal powerhouse featuring Toronto singers Jenny Mayhem and Jesse Taylor. There’s nothing tricky about warm pads and mellow chords laid on top of percussive drums, but the combination downright works. A stunning remix is delivered by one of Australia’s leading house exports, Nathan G. (Luvbug, Large Music, Lazy Days). Nathan highlights the vocals with exceptionally effective breaks, seductively stripping away any surplus and making room for more intimate moments. The EP’s second original, “Wanna Dance?,” uses video game style effects in a fun, cheeky piece of music. Rounding things off is “Real Lies,” a bit more of a deep, dark, and dirty late night tech-house affair with a driving low end. All together this release will keep the dance floor toasty for some time to come.

Quentin Harris - “I will give these a spin.”

Hot Lipps Inc. - Trapped (Hot Lipps Records)

Hot Lipps Records has had a string of quality releases of late and this fifth and most recent offering continues the impressive path. Comprised of Toronto based producers Peter and Steve Primiani, formerly of 83 West Records and Camouflage Recordings, Hot Lipps Inc. open the EP with “Trapped” - a blistering cut with a vocal some will recognize from house music’s earliest days. A simple 808 drum machine, a saw-wave bass, and driving synths give the classic singing style a tasteful update. A superb remix comes from German based producer Daniel Solar who has flexed his muscles in the past on labels like Exploited, SleazyBeats, and his own Dikso. Providing a deeper interpretation suited for just about any time of the night, Daniel dubs out the original voice while making use of disco style claps, soft pads, and harmonious strings, all ready to keep even easily distracted ears hooked for the track’s full duration. The release is completed by two more excellent Hot Lipps Inc. originals. “In the Mix” is a slightly darker cut haunted by pulsing progressions while “Back Again” is a production from early 2012 that has finally found its home on the EP. Delayed, like its release, the melodies wind around the steady sub frequency.

Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - “Reworking the classic Jestofunk jam! It’s awesome and I’m gonna play it, but you’ve actually reminded me to break out the original. Rec N Pause for life!”
Ali Herron (OOFT! / Foto Rec.) - “It’s all about Daniel’s deeper rework for me.”
Jay West - “Dope!”
Erik Rug - “I like this early house vibe.”

Jevne (OneThirty Recordings) - “Solid tracks.”
diskJokke - “Daniel Solar is pushing all the right buttons.”

Bobi (Global Movement Radio Show) - “I love this release … three wicked originals and a wicked remix!”
Lee Jarvis (Do It Proper / MyCuppaT) - “Huge! I love both versions of ‘Trapped’ … will definitely support!”
Russell Deeks (This Is Why We Dance) - “A cool take on a proper classic.”

Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “More chunky mayhem … great quality sound and rocking jams.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House) - “Superb EP featuring a truly wicked remix by Daniel Solar.”
