Hot Lipps Records has had a string of quality releases of late and this fifth and most recent offering continues the impressive path. Comprised of Toronto based producers Peter and Steve Primiani, formerly of 83 West Records and Camouflage Recordings, Hot Lipps Inc. open the EP with “Trapped” - a blistering cut with a vocal some will recognize from house music’s earliest days. A simple 808 drum machine, a saw-wave bass, and driving synths give the classic singing style a tasteful update. A superb remix comes from German based producer Daniel Solar who has flexed his muscles in the past on labels like Exploited, SleazyBeats, and his own Dikso. Providing a deeper interpretation suited for just about any time of the night, Daniel dubs out the original voice while making use of disco style claps, soft pads, and harmonious strings, all ready to keep even easily distracted ears hooked for the track’s full duration. The release is completed by two more excellent Hot Lipps Inc. originals. “In the Mix” is a slightly darker cut haunted by pulsing progressions while “Back Again” is a production from early 2012 that has finally found its home on the EP. Delayed, like its release, the melodies wind around the steady sub frequency.
