Hot Lipps Inc. - Could Be (Hot Lipps Records)

The sixth installment from Hot Lipps Records reminisces of lazy summer days gone by with three superb original tracks from the label owners. Comprised of Toronto-based producers Peter and Steve Primiani, formerly of 83 West Records and Camouflage Recordings, Hot Lipps Inc. hand over some heat for the upcoming winter months on the Could Be EP. It opens with the title track, a devious and blissed-out vocal powerhouse featuring Toronto singers Jenny Mayhem and Jesse Taylor. There’s nothing tricky about warm pads and mellow chords laid on top of percussive drums, but the combination downright works. A stunning remix is delivered by one of Australia’s leading house exports, Nathan G. (Luvbug, Large Music, Lazy Days). Nathan highlights the vocals with exceptionally effective breaks, seductively stripping away any surplus and making room for more intimate moments. The EP’s second original, “Wanna Dance?,” uses video game style effects in a fun, cheeky piece of music. Rounding things off is “Real Lies,” a bit more of a deep, dark, and dirty late night tech-house affair with a driving low end. All together this release will keep the dance floor toasty for some time to come.
