Alexander East - weAkcanbEstrong (3345 Music)

Alexander East returns to 3345 Music with a magical new release evocatively titled “weAkcanbEstrong.” Alexander’s distinguished career and unique style qualify him for legend status, gaining notoriety though both his vocals on collaborative efforts and remixes with producers like Jimpster, JT Donaldson, and Atnarko. “weAkcanbEstrong” challenges the barriers between electronic and soul, house and broken beat, while moving the dance floor forward. The Original Strength version is classic Alexander East, highlighting his signature vocals under a stripped-down funky house rhythm and a helping of moody, late night deepness. Prime stuff. San Francisco DJ/producer Lurob tackles the first remix with a full-on attack of the senses. Lurob’s been on the rise with releases through Mark Farina’s Great Lakes Audio and Dufflebag, and this remix shows further evidence of his talent. A solid low end rattles the speakers as distant keys and dubby, effected vocals make way for a bubbling, unmissable acid line. There’s loads of floor fuel in this jam, for sure. Following this, another up-and-coming producer, Portland’s Hecca, provides his Future Garage Mix. Based around a tricky half-time beat and pulsating synths, Hecca’s version brings out the emotion in Alexander’s vocal, creating a most distinctive tale on “weAkcanbEstrong.” Finally, Alexander presents his own House Anthem Mix which lays down a slinky four-on-the-floor, some funky keys, and a good dose of warehouse atmosphere for an uplifting cut sure to find its place in many nightclub sets.

Vital and Hubb - Switchback (3345 Music)

Dallas-based house music label 3345 Music is pleased to present this debut release from the Texas production duo Vital and Hubb. The two have tracks under their belts individually, and crossed paths just last year. Vital and Hubb had many shared musical interests and philosophies so the seed for collaboration was instantly planted. “Switchback" is the fruit of the combined forces, a wonderfully groovy and deep piece of house music ready to warmly flow out of club sound-systems. Light tech-house elements, punchy vocal hits, and spot-on percussion accentuate the atmosphere making for an exceptional late night cut.

Loads of top notch remixes of “Switchback” are also included in the package. Denver’s Nick Papageorgio (London West) leads the charge with a dreamy but tough interpretation filled with swirling pads and and steady kick. The legendary Demarkus Lewis (Grin Music) is up next, delving into exotic, rhythmic territories with a lovely remix. Sharp beats, warm bass, and evocative atmospherics make for a stand-out treatment. Pointbender (Harmonious Discord) then reworks “Switchback” into a snappy and bouncy tech-house builder. Tim Angrave, host of the popular Chillout Lounge Mix podcast, provides a downtempo, panoramic version that is perfectly suited for blissful ‘back to mine’ sessions. Rounding out the set is the Echo Conscious Mix from Texas electronica producer Molecule, thriving on a warm kick and nearly ambient soundscapes for an icy, ultra-deep tech-house excursion.
