Lurob - The Fresh Start EP (Patsada Records)

Patsada Records bounds forth with a hot new three tracker from rising San Francisco DJ / producer Lurob. The Fresh Start EP is a potent release aimed squarely at the dance floor, showcasing the funky, beat-blitzing style that Lurob previously unleashed for the likes of Great Lakes Audio, Tango, Piston, and Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz series. "RiverDay" sets the tone as a pounding four-on-the-floor introduces jazzy chords, swirling sonic effects, and some serious low end. Things get a bit slinkier on "35th Richmond Outer" when an exotic melodic sample and some mysterious vocal bits enter the mix for a seductively underground result. The after hours vibe continues with "Ripping Through Chunks" which ups the thump level and tosses delectable loops and vocal phrases in a club-ready fashion. House music at its purest and most floor-centric … another solid release from the Patsada crew.

Jason Hodges (Sampled Recordings) - "'Ripping Though the Chunks' is tight!"

Alexander East - weAkcanbEstrong (3345 Music)

Alexander East returns to 3345 Music with a magical new release evocatively titled “weAkcanbEstrong.” Alexander’s distinguished career and unique style qualify him for legend status, gaining notoriety though both his vocals on collaborative efforts and remixes with producers like Jimpster, JT Donaldson, and Atnarko. “weAkcanbEstrong” challenges the barriers between electronic and soul, house and broken beat, while moving the dance floor forward. The Original Strength version is classic Alexander East, highlighting his signature vocals under a stripped-down funky house rhythm and a helping of moody, late night deepness. Prime stuff. San Francisco DJ/producer Lurob tackles the first remix with a full-on attack of the senses. Lurob’s been on the rise with releases through Mark Farina’s Great Lakes Audio and Dufflebag, and this remix shows further evidence of his talent. A solid low end rattles the speakers as distant keys and dubby, effected vocals make way for a bubbling, unmissable acid line. There’s loads of floor fuel in this jam, for sure. Following this, another up-and-coming producer, Portland’s Hecca, provides his Future Garage Mix. Based around a tricky half-time beat and pulsating synths, Hecca’s version brings out the emotion in Alexander’s vocal, creating a most distinctive tale on “weAkcanbEstrong.” Finally, Alexander presents his own House Anthem Mix which lays down a slinky four-on-the-floor, some funky keys, and a good dose of warehouse atmosphere for an uplifting cut sure to find its place in many nightclub sets.
