Morgendugg - Kanskje i Morgen (Akustikk)

Morgendugg is the name of a new project from Norwegian beat sorcerer Dennis Jr., presenting both a continuation and a fresh start to his expressive dance music explorations. After a string of releases for the likes of Jazid Collective, Beatservice, and his own Akustikk Recordings, Morgendugg (translates as ‘morning dew’) signals a new beginning for the talented producer. The album Kanskje i Morgen continues Dennis Jr.’s experiments in midtempo rhythmology, pulsing bass concoctions, and melodic synth metallurgy. These cuts come forged in fire.

The title cut (AKA “Maybe Tomorrow”) throws down the gauntlet with its pulsing bass bounce under twinkly synth-work and dream-like spoken phrases. The following cuts, “Antilope” and “Ethopia”, take on strange, exotic flavors, deploying inventive production flourishes and catchy sound bursts. On “Feilsitert (Misquoted),” Morgendugg gives it his all through broken beats, distant sax riffs, and a mischievous vocal. Other cuts find influence from African jazz and worldly flavors, twisted and filtered through Morgendugg’s squelchy funk atomizer. Kanskje i Morgen features eleven cuts in total — and these rock hard in various tempos, with explicit vibe emissions that’ll inspire manic feet buzz. Morgendugg is on the case.

Jon Fugler (Fluke) – “There are some real gems here, loving the production, just the right side of wonky, and the retro vibes sitting very well with my ears.”
Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister) – “Great record. I like all the tracks here.”
Severino (HorseMeatDisco) – “Yes! Great stuff here.”
Midfield General (Skint) – “A very pleasant collection of grooves.”
DJ Osric (Black and Blue Show) – “Very enjoyable and unique sounding release.”
misterG (Green Arrow Radio Show) – “Cut from fire. Heaters.”
DJ T-Bird (Los Chicos Altos) – “Love the musicality of the tracks. Laid back, but not musical wallpaper by any means. More like exposed brick - background that is fascinating if examined.”

Dennis Jr. - Get Me All The Way / Multefunk (Akustikk Recordings)

Introducing Norway’s Akustikk Recordings, a label focusing on up-and-coming “nu disco” producer Dennis Jr. Previously an artist for the cult favorite Jazid Collective label Dennis Jr. has a number of releases on Akustikk, including collaborations with vocalist Christabelle, best known for her work with Lindstrøm on his latest album.

Here Dennis Jr. presents two back-to-back singles to close out 2010. The slinky “Get Me All The Way" is provocative future-disco featuring Dennis Jr.’s breathy, catchy vocal, some dueling analog synths, and a low riding tempo for maximum grooviness. "Multefunk" basks in its intended spaciness, filled with exotic vocal hits, dubbed out sections, persuasive percussion, and an irresistibly sexy interplay between the bass line and the rhythm. Alternate versions of both tracks are handily available, including dubs and instrumentals. These singles make up a top notch pair of forward-thinking disco packages suited for late night cruising or as memorable additions to the sets of ‘DJs in the know.’
