Animal Friend - Glorious (Anthony Mansfield Remix) [Green Gorilla Lounge]

San Francisco's dance music veteran Anthony Mansfield brings his psychedelic touch to Animal Friend's "Glorious" in a remix that transforms the indie-electronic original into a hypnotic dancefloor expedition. The remix skillfully preserves Kazuko Anne Kimura's ethereal vocals while wrapping them in layers of rich, cosmic synthesizers and pulsating rhythms.

Mansfield, whose musical journey began with the legendary Wicked Crew's full moon parties, demonstrates his decades of experience behind the decks in this carefully crafted revision. "I wanted to create something that would work equally well at 4 AM in a sweaty warehouse or during sunset at Burning Man," Mansfield explains. His remix accomplishes exactly that, maintaining the emotional core of Animal Friend's original while expanding its horizons into deeper, more psychedelic territory. The result is a sophisticated piece of dance music that bridges the gap between indie sensibilities and club culture. Dive in!

Jon Fugler (Fluke) – “A fine slice of late night loveliness.”
Chris Todd (Crazy P) – “Great stuff, both the Original and Anthony’s remix.”
Ket Shah (Mucho Soul) – “The Original and Remix are great Pieces of Electronica.”

Anthony Mansfield - Bricks - (Green Gorilla Lounge)

Green Gorilla Lounge fills out its origin story with the re-introduction of founding member Anthony Mansfield to the release schedule. Since 2001, Anthony has been a part of the infamous GGL club night in San Francisco with DJ M3, his eternal partner in crime. His return is marked by the glorious “Bricks,” a groovy acid chugger that solidifies the sound Anthony sculpted with his cult-favorite Hector Works imprint. Hypnotic mid-tempo rhythms, psychedelic voice snippets, meaty synths, and big drum fills round out this dark-as-night DJ treat.

This single includes a chunky remix from Om Records staple Shiny Objects, adding bright synth lines, sparse percussive dubbiness, and spacey echo effects. And then, if that weren’t enough, another Hector Works veteran, Nick Chacona (Moodmusic, 20:20 Vision) joins Anthony for a surprise appearance with the wild dance floor sound experiment of “Pidgeon.” Trippy in all the right places, “Pidgeon” further defines the 3 AM sound of the Green Gorilla Lounge — that magic moment when things get simultaneously messy and marvelous. Sleazy disco warriors, unite.

Flash Atkins (Paper Recordings) – “Bricks original is doing it for me.”
ALTZ (DFA / Altzmusica) – “Green Gorilla Lounge is a groovy good time.”
Sean Johnston (A Love From Outer Space) – “It’s a YES from me!”
Sleazy McQueen (Whiskey Disco) – “Lovin’ the vibes.”
Felix Dickinson (Cynic Music) – “Very nice, as one would expect from Anthony.”
Shahrokh Dini (Compost Black Label) – “I like the orginal groove. The remix is good too.”
DJ Sabo (Sol Selectas) – “Perfectly weird and trip disco. Reminds me of NYC in the 2000’s.”
Black Mighty Wax (Irma Records) – “Sooooo Groovy!”
Robot84 (Paper Recordings) – “Bricks is sounding dope. Love that raw sound to it.”
Ulysses (Neurotic Drum Band) – “I love Pidgeon with Nick Chacona. Tell him to give me my hair clippers back.”

Anthony Mansfield + JP Soul - Inner Demons / The Moving Song (Roam Recordings)

Roam Recordings has been operating out of San Francisco for over fifteen years. Once a small local label featuring forward thinking producers hailing from the Bay Area, it has since grown to become home to an international crew of top tier underground dance music talent.

With plans to make 2016 the best year yet, label boss JP Soul gets things started with his right hand man and SF rave lord Anthony Mansfield. The two have been finely honing their creepy crawly electronic sound as a duo over the past year and this latest release showcases their development as VIPs amongst San Francisco’s analog ‘rack pack’.

Inner Demons” is a dark and witchy affair with acid tones, a haunting melody, and ominous sounds that seems to conjure creatures from the deep. Covert shuffling on late night dance floors is guaranteed. Flip the switch for “The Moving Song” which continues in this dark direction but with a tighter leash on its synthesized soundscape. A slinky groove for any discerning DJ’s set. Drop, spin, and roll.

With an early 2016 release schedule that includes Tone Of Arc, 40 Thieves, Tronik Youth, and Lokier there is a lot to look forward to from Roam Recordings this year.

Anthony Mansfield + JP Soul - Whatchu Know About Acid? (Roam Recordings)

San Francisco disco warriors Anthony Mansfield and JP Soul are triumphant after the success of the Ode To Moulton EP, and their collaboration continues to yield funky fruit, most recently with the top track "Everything Is Real." No laurel-resting for these two … they've already bounced back with a brand new release for Roam Recordings, the tauntingly titled Whatchu Know About Acid? EP. 303-fueled mischief abounds as the pair fries circuit boards and brain cells alike with three tracks firmly planted in acid house territory. The title track launches the release, grooving to a sexy beat as drum machines and acid lines conspire with a refreshingly human feel. "Two Girlfriends" follows, getting down and gritty into a rhythmic, psychedelic romp driven by an insistent and heavy bass synth pulse. "Time-lapse" closes out the proceedings, delving deeper into a moody hypnotic world of distorted and tripped-out sounds. These three cuts all masterfully weave together into a deep and exquisite acid journey … Roam Recordings certainly knows its acid.

Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - "JP Soul and Anthony Mansfield are flippin' amazing. 'Whatchu Know Bout Acid' and 'Two Girlfriends' are stunners."
Sleazy McQueen - "'Whatchu Know Bout Acid' is the sickest acid jam I've heard in a while. It's comfortably akin to Abe Duque and old Chicago."
Gene Farris - "These are all great tracks!"
Hard Ton (Gigolo / Permanent Vacation) - "Love it! 'Time-lapse' is the one … rave on!"
Bing Ji Ling (The Phenomenal Handclap Band) - "Yeah, man … acid!"
Larry Tee - "Nice one!"
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "A great sound, indeed."
Rory Hoy (Howlin' Records / Super Hi-Fi) - "Everybody loves a 303!"
Benjamin Roeder (Kong / Spectacle) - "I love your acid!"
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "Another utter stunner from the Roam camp. All three are superb, but 'Two Girlfriends' really is phenomenal. I can't wait to drop this!"
Leri Ahel (Mutant Disco Radio Show) - "Brilliant! I love all three tracks."
DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - "Cosmic edges, sharp builds, weird and intoxicating electronics … I'm in."
