JP Soul - Party On (Roam Recordings)

San Francisco's JP Soul has unleashed no less than eight releases in the past two years – including collaborations with Anthony Mansfield and Space Coast – on his Roam Recordings imprint. The perfect and somewhat unexpected way to cap this prolific streak is to issue a nine track album filled with moody late night stompers. Party On is JP Soul's debut long-player, and it feels like a magus producer at the height of his powers, armed to dazzle dance floors with sonic sorcery. Representing the bay area's fertile underground scene, the album is gritty, forward-thinking, and psychedelic, and filled with enough groovy vibes to warrant its declarative title. Highlights include the modest yet heavy rhythm of "Push n Pull", "Mind Control"'s dirty acid stylings, the slow chug of "Time Is Not Wasted", and the appropriately wobbly funk of "Go Home Song (You're Drunk)". The title track also impresses as a funky synth destroyer providing a theme song for the after party. Party On is chock-full of attitude and ready to ignite a variety of nightclub destinations.

Sleazy McQueen (Whiskey Disco) - "'Party On' is f%&king sick."
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Pretty cool stuff."
Heretic (Days Of Being Wild / Nein) - "These are all amazing … top release."
Hard Ton (Toy Tonics / Luv Shack) - "Loving 'In The Woods' a lot."
Downtown Party Network (Eskimo / Compost) - "Plenty of good tracks … 'Mind Control' is my favorite here."
Gemini Brothers (Skint / Nein) - "This album is just amazing … each track has its own story and place on the dance floor."
Belabouche (Midnight Riot / DiscoDat) - "Nice release."
Phunktastike (Spirit Soul Music / Undertones Gang) - "Awesome … I love it!"
Tronik Youth (Nein Records / Back-Yard Recordings) - "Great album … 'Party On' leaps out at first listen."
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "There is something for every type of set I play here, so I'm covered for disco, deepness, house, '80s-influenced funk … the whole set is wicked."
Vanilla Ace - "An interesting release with lots of different vibes."
Distant People (Foliage / Seamless) - "Solid sounds … some cool deepness and straight up twisted grooves."
Tee Cardaci (Low Down Grooves / Sine Qua Non) - "JP Soul is so on fire this year that it's stupid. Keep grinding!"

JP Soul - Gone is the Time (Roam Recordings)

San Francisco's prolific JP Soul has amassed a quality-consistent catalog of compelling cuts, drawing equally upon his affinity for underground deep house, psychedelic disco, and analog acid. He's been broadcasting these mainly through his acclaimed Roam Recordings imprint, a long-standing label whose first release (his own) came out 15 years ago. The tradition continues with JP's latest, the three track Gone is the Time EP. It opens with the title track which is one of JP Soul's more uptempo tracks. It features a pulsating bass pattern under a series of blasting synth effects and retro-style vocal phrases. The steady drum beats and dramatic chord rises aim this one squarely towards the boogie zone. "Work the Kinks" then captivates with its acidic bass line and ominous pad-scapes, never compromising the heavy helping of electro-funk that is the track's foundation. The EP is rounded out by "Morning Shivers", embracing JP's love of lowered tempos and dreamy, melodic phrases. The interplay of the bass and the layers of keys creates a warm, full sound that will create dance floor delight when played in the early morning hours.

Sleazy McQueen - "Hypnotic and evocative."
Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - "I love JP! This is so good."
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Yes … slow and nice."
Galen (Sunset Sound System) - "'Work The Kinks' is the one for me. I love the squirrelly groove."
Coyote (... Is It Balearic? / International Feel) - "'Morning Shivers' is cool."
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "Another absolute belter from Roam Recordings. All three are glorious, but 'Gone is the Time' made me want to get up and strut around in a kind of robotic, jittery fashion."
Norman Weber (Luna City Express / Moon Harbour) - "Cool EP … I'll play 'Work the Kinks'."
Chris Massey (Paper Recordings) - "Nice rumbling, chugging disco house vibes!"
Tee Cardaci (Low Down Grooves / Sine Qua Non) - "JP is on fire! I'm particularly digging 'Work The Kinks'. Top shelf, synth heavy grooves."
DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - "Strong package. JP Soul is follows a path around the acid house era but with one leg on synth-laden cosmic waves."

Available now from Beatport, Juno Download, iTunes, and Spotify.

Anthony Mansfield + JP Soul - Inner Demons / The Moving Song (Roam Recordings)

Roam Recordings has been operating out of San Francisco for over fifteen years. Once a small local label featuring forward thinking producers hailing from the Bay Area, it has since grown to become home to an international crew of top tier underground dance music talent.

With plans to make 2016 the best year yet, label boss JP Soul gets things started with his right hand man and SF rave lord Anthony Mansfield. The two have been finely honing their creepy crawly electronic sound as a duo over the past year and this latest release showcases their development as VIPs amongst San Francisco’s analog ‘rack pack’.

Inner Demons” is a dark and witchy affair with acid tones, a haunting melody, and ominous sounds that seems to conjure creatures from the deep. Covert shuffling on late night dance floors is guaranteed. Flip the switch for “The Moving Song” which continues in this dark direction but with a tighter leash on its synthesized soundscape. A slinky groove for any discerning DJ’s set. Drop, spin, and roll.

With an early 2016 release schedule that includes Tone Of Arc, 40 Thieves, Tronik Youth, and Lokier there is a lot to look forward to from Roam Recordings this year.

JP Soul - From Within EP (Roam Recordings)

JP Soul has unveiled three heartfelt songs from the San Francisco underground, comprising the From Within EP for Roam Recordings. After a successful slew of singles, collaborations with Anthony Mansfield, and tracks remixed by the likes of Wolf+Lamb, The Revenge, and Sleazy McQueen, JP Soul bounds forth with a release that's 100% on the solo tip. Snaking synth melodies and Italo-influenced textures abound, as these cuts hypnotize through their trippy sonic motions.
