Auditive Cosmos - Disco Fiction (Emerald and Doreen)

Auditive Cosmos is an ambitious new project from a prolific veteran German producer who wishes to remain as anonymous as a yet undiscovered solar system. Under this pseudonym, Auditive Cosmos rides galactic disco waves with a cloaking device in full effect, appearing briefly to jettison the Disco Fiction album onto esteemed German boutique imprint Emerald & Doreen Records. This is an interstellar mission to explore the far reaches of dance music.

The sounds throughout the Disco Fiction album are heavily influenced by the Italo and disco scenes of the past few decades but with a modernistic take supplied by the seasoned producer at the helm. Auditive Cosmos supplies bass, drums, electronics, and keys throughout while a talented group of guest vocalists and musicians elegantly fill in the spaces. Highlights include, but are not limited to, the authentic sounding disco blast of "Stargazer", "Driving At Night" and its slo-mo cyborg serenade, the old school electro vocoder nugget that is "Galactic Riders", and the synth-tastic wind up of "Discofiction". With twelve cool tracks in total, there's plenty to get lost in here, and much to get down to. Blast off!

Ursula 1000's Guilty Pleasure Disco Picks

To celebrate the release of "Blast Off!", Ursula 1000's disco-tastic collaboration with NYC's legendary Lady Bunny (the founder of Wigstock, no less), we decided to ask Mr. 1000 for his top three disco sleaze / cheese 'guilty pleasure' cuts. Break out a precariously low-hanging mirror ball, as he delivered these fabulous selections and commented on each:

Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip - "I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper"

Ursula 1000: The main inspiration working on my "Blast Off!" track with Lady Bunny off my new album Voyeur was definitely the Hi-NRG sleazy electro disco of Sylvester and Patrick Cowley and of course synth stuff by Giorgio Moroder and even New Order. We were also channeling some of that campy outer space science fiction imagery and that can totally be heard on this fun romp by the one and only Sarah Brightman alongside dancers Hot Gossip!

Kroma - "Sexy Films"

Ursula 1000: "Sexy Films" by Kroma is a rarity. Definitely Italo-disco, but I can't seem to find more on this. I hear a little of that dead pan Gina X / Cristina of Ze Records style vocal which I'm a total sucker for and I had to have this. Love the "hahaha" bit...!

Maj Britt and The Suggestions - "Sorry Caller No One Home"

Ursula 1000: I have no idea who Maj Britt is. I thought maybe Britt Ekland …? I found this 45 in Vienna while on a DJ tour there … I went record hunting for '70s glam rock and came across this. This is one of those occasions where the title "Sorry Caller No One Home" won me over. You cue up the record and hope it's not a dud and BOOM – what a winner!

And while we're at it, let's have a listen to "Blast Off!" by Ursula 1000 featuring Lady Bunny:

JP Soul - From Within EP (Roam Recordings)

JP Soul has unveiled three heartfelt songs from the San Francisco underground, comprising the From Within EP for Roam Recordings. After a successful slew of singles, collaborations with Anthony Mansfield, and tracks remixed by the likes of Wolf+Lamb, The Revenge, and Sleazy McQueen, JP Soul bounds forth with a release that's 100% on the solo tip. Snaking synth melodies and Italo-influenced textures abound, as these cuts hypnotize through their trippy sonic motions. "From Within" and its dreamy soundscape, the multi-genre blend of "I'mkindagoingthroughitrightnow", and "Invisible Fences" with live drums from JP augmenting its psychedelic romp … these tracks flow like neon fluid from living circuitboards onto the dance floor. Tune in and trip out.

JP Soul's From Within EP will be released on vinyl 12" and digital download.

Nick Warren - "Great EP from JP. 'I'mkindagoingthroughitrightnow' is ace."
Tensnake - "'From Within' is sweet."
Larry Tee - "Tasty!"
Hard Ton (Gigolo / Permanent Vacation) - "Lots of funk here … my favorite is 'Invisible Fences'."
Vanilla Ace - "'From Within' is cool."
Rodion (Alien Alien / Gomma) - "Very nice EP."
Rory Hoy (Howlin' Records / Super Hi-Fi) - "Great release!"
Ulysses (Neurotic Drum Band) - "I like the Italo touch of 'I'mkindofgoingthroughitrightnow'."
Chris Massey (Paper Recordings / Electriks) - "All are dance floor friendly … on the right side of being tough for the late night jackers but also pack plenty of groove and soul to work on the early door crowds. Great skills."
Adam Warped (Whiskey Pickle / Strange Days) - "'Invisible Fences' is a lovely moody cosmic ride."
Hober Mallow (Excursions / Mighty Reel Radio Show) - "The synth and melodies have a bit of a throwback to mid 2000s Lindstrom sort of sound, especially 'Invisible Fences'. I really enjoyed this EP."
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "All three tracks are total crackers and the EP is so good. The combo of Roam Recordings and JP Soul is a winning one."
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) - "Another absolute stunner from JP Soul. 'I'mkindagoingthroughitrightnow' is so beautiful and I love the sluggish pace of 'Invisible Fences'. Amazing stuff."

DJ Enne - Shades Of House (Karmaloft Music)

Karmaloft Music is pleased to present a new ten track album from DJ Enne, a prolific musician and mastermind of Italo-inspired electro-disco-rock band Mohear. His solo releases have made their way onto labels like Compost and Permanent Vacation, but this comes as no surprise considering his close relationship to the Italian cosmic pioneers Baldelli and Beppe Loda. He spent much of the '80s absorbed in the afro-funky-cosmic-disco sound -- the reoccurring hyphen-bridged music descriptors reflective of his genre-bending tastes and, also, his fourth album: Shades Of House.

A collection of wide ranged house and (classic style) electro tracks with handmade, funky bass lines and soulful, cheerful hooks, Shades Of House was recorded in Enne's home-base of Munich with the sounds pretty much all played by the multi-instrumentalist himself. Opening with "Break Me", the album gets off to a romanticized and arpeggiated Italo disco-ish start, particularly potent in the delayed piano chords and step-it-up bass. Pulsing and tribal, "Congolia" features a foreboding bell and the complex rhythm of African hand drums sounding straight out of the Congo. "Pink Souls" marks a shift as the album's hauntingly cosmic number, full of drama and accented by spoken word. The pitch perfect, lush house of "Song For Kezia" eventually evolves into "Strings Of Life"-like piano ecstasy. A hefty slice of krautrock, "Allein" features German singer Jens Poenitsch with lyrics in his native tongue. These are just some of the highlights … with half the album already accounting for such an array of different styles, experiencing it in full will leave no doubt of Enne's knack for taking on any shade of house he sees fit.

Johnwaynes (Cécille Records / Compost) - "'Song For Krezia' is the one for me … well done!"
Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - "Quel energy! I love this."
Vanilla Ace (OFF Recordings) - "'C Minor In My House' … that's for me."
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Lots of great tracks here . Very very nice sound."
Hardway Bros (A Love From Outer Space) - "'Song For Krezia' is a killer."
DJ Tonka (Tonka Tunes) - "'Congolia' is a sure player! Kinda tribal-meets-Doppelwipper-style tech-house. Me like!"
Aromabar (INFRACom!) - "Funky, deep, old school … on the spot!"
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "Yes, this is a simply superb collection of beats … a real example of how to make 'proper' house music, in all its glory."
Pat Lezizmo (Conya Records) - "Such a nice collection of tunes. 'Song For Kezia' is the highlight for me … great groove and that nice organ melody."
Richard Hardcastle (Solid State / All Out War) - "Distinctive and well-produced vocals in 'Allein' and 'Pink Souls' make those two stand out in a solid lineup … but all tracks very good, indeed."
Mark Mac (The Sounds Collective) - "Retro feel but with a clear and solid production."
Logan Fisher (Haules Baules) - "A versatile and always entertaining album. DJ Enne doesn't put a foot wrong throughout. Great release."
