The Self Help Group - Temple OS (Colour and Pitch)

Brighton alt-folk band The Self Help Group's touching and unique song “Temple OS” gets the remix treatment from Gavin Boyce, Grottoes, Rosko & Sumsuch, and Eric Shans.

The original song, written by Brighton musician Mark Bruce, founder of The Self Help Group, is inspired by the strange and tragic story of Terry A. Davis. Davis began programming the ‘Temple OS' computer operating system in 2005 after a series of visions in which he claimed God had instructed him to build ‘the Third Temple.’

Reunited for the first time since their 2009 low-key underground hit “Latenite Bypass” on Urban Torque, Rosko & Sumsuch turn in an acid-tinged, string-laden, extended rework of the song, putting Mark's powerful vocal out front and dubbing the song out in the second half.

Off-kilter electronic music hero Q-Burns Abstract Message unveils his brand new Grottoes alias for a meditative, ambient Reversion of “Temple OS”, layering guitars over airy synths to build up a densely textured soundscape.

With an album coming soon on Nordic Trax, Irish producer Gavin Boyce delivers the potent and haunting house-fueled 2MB Distro Mix of “Temple OS”, sure to provide many a transcendental dance-floor moment when the clubs finally re-open.

Colour and Pitch regular and 3Bridge Records co-owner Eric Shans stays true to the original version, adding subtle electronic melodies and shimmering chords to delightful effect.

Finally, The Self Group provide an alternate rendition of “Temple OS”, transforming the song into a languid and warm synth-pop gem.

Q-Burns Abstract Message - QBAM RMX1 (Colour and Pitch)

Colour and Pitch is honored to present this selection of previously unreleased remixes from leftfield production hero Q-Burns Abstract Message. Since remixing the label's debut release ("Simpatico" by Sumsuch), Colour and Pitch has built a close relationship with the mercurial Orlando-based artist, and constant pestering for more music has finally paid off. Rescued from obscurity and lovingly remastered, QBAM RMX1 is made up of vintage Q-BAM reworks that never saw the light of day for one reason or another. It’s been a true labour of love tracking down the original artists and getting deals agreed, but one listen to this EP makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Opening the EP is a breaks-y, atmospheric, and psychedelic version of Church Williams’ 2013 indie-pop gem "Touch The Sun". Next up Q-BAM tackles "Absence" by underground trip-hop / synth-pop collective The Antirealists, supplying a bass-driven, shoe-gazing indie-dance interpretation … as addictive as it is unique. The brilliantly named Japanese Insanity receive a percussion-led, driving workout, taking their track "The Lobster" into hypnotic dance floor territory. The remix of Robert McCoy’s "Damascus" builds steadily into a trippy deep house bubbler and is off-kilter in the best possible way. Last but by no means least, Mathew Scot’s "Trauma" is re-imagined in a style reminiscent of West Coast house music during its mind-expanding golden era.

Brimming with inventiveness and creativity, these five remixes see Q-Burns Abstract Message at his vintage, genre-defying best; somehow managing to sound cerebral and visceral all at once.

Sumsuch feat. Matty Eeles - Live Now (Colour and Pitch)

Colour and Pitch’s third outing sees label founder Sumsuch reconnect with long time vocal collaborator Matty Eeles for an uplifting slice of deep house music. Following the success of last year’s “This Old Town,” a fundraising single for mental health charity Mind, the duo headed straight back into the studio. The result is another vocal-backed slice of melodic, evocative, string-laden magic.

Matty’s soaring vocal range and beautiful lyrics deftly transform what was a deeply personal instrumental track - originally dedicated to a lost love - into a stirring call of “live now, not what has been.” Both a Vocal Mix and ’Blue Coat’ Instrumental are included in the release.

The first remix comes from Swiss production powerhouse Da Funk, a dream artist for the label. With releases on Anjunadeep, Pacha, and many other great labels to his name, quality and consistence has made him a credible name for house music. His ‘La Boheme’ version adds some blissful rays of warm sunshine, dropping the tempo down into beach-lounging territory whilst retaining many elements of the original, only slightly accented by his own special touches.

The second remix comes from Minotaurs, a rather special and often rare Helsinki recording duo better known by its individual parts: local hero Sachrias and transient performer Sumsuch. Since remixing Ricky Ryan’s incredible “4 The Love” back in 2011, the pair have been laying down tracks every time Sumsuch visits Finland to DJ. Aimed squarely at the dance-floor with its growling bass line, this simple but effective arrangement is the product of a single joyful afternoon in the studio on a hot summer’s day in 2013.

Richie Hartness (untitled music) - “The Vocal Mix is cracking but the Minotaurs just stole it with their remix … and that’s saying something in such a quality pack!”
Hippie Torrales - “I’m loving Matty’s voice … great tune.”
Claudio Coccoluto - “Nice pack!”
DJ Di Costa (MoodyLushious Influences) - “‘Lovely’ is an understatement … I’m really feeling this gorgeous single. Matty’s voice is beyond real, especially spread over Sumsuch’s crafty arrangement. A masterpiece.”
Christos Kedras (Beat Philosophy / Kapa Music) - “A beautiful track … the original and Da Funk mixes both hit some nice spots.”
Vincent Kwok - “That Minotaur remix is dark!”
Aldrin (OneWithMusic / Zouk Club) - “A nice summer balearic feel here from Da Funk.”
Cheets (Global Dance Sessions) - “Just beautiful … amazing work!”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “A pulsating bass line that pulls you in along with the dreamy, hypnotic vocals … a great tone created here.”
Dado Funky Poetz (Radio Monte Carlo) - “Nu pop? Perfect.”
DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - “Emotive, melancholic, and strong at the same time. Da Funk’s La Boheme Remix is smooth, perfect, and beach-friendly.”
Velanche (Valanche’s Playtime Radio Show) - “A warm vibe on the original, and good remixes from Da Funk and Minotaurs.”
Deepshizzol (MyHouse-YourHouse) - “Lovely stuff! Summer vibes on every track … lush deepness.”
Milton Welch (Soul Reflector) - “A rare blend of lush and stripped down qualities that make for a unique listening experience. The growing popularity of deep house is something that makes me suspicious, but not when it sounds like this.”

Finest Wear - Distant Memories EP (Colour and Pitch)

The second release on Colour and Pitch comes courtesy of Finest Wear, the new alias of veteran London producer Mr Cenzo. Previously one half of MidiDropMusic alongside Matt Masters (Freerange), Cenzo has seen top ten chart positions on both Beatport and Juno Download for his previous releases on labels such as Guess, Dig Deeper, and Glideslope. The Finest Wear moniker marks a fresh chapter in Cenzo’s deep house story, while the title of the Distant Memories EP reflects his coming of age: “I see my Mididrop and Mr Cenzo productions as a learning curve, eventually arriving at a more mature, stylish, Finest Wear sound.”

The three tracks contained in this EP certainly back up Finest Wear’s statement of intent; warm, deep, classic house without sounding self-consciously throwback. First up, “The Storm” is a slow burning, atmospheric track with sublime spoken word poetry throughout, lending a distinctly spiritual vibe to proceedings. “For The Love” slides onto the dance floor with an infectious groove and an insistent vocal, summoning up memories of the good old days. Speaking of reminiscing, the third track, “The Tribute,” is actually the result of a conversation between Finest Wear and label boss Sumsuch regarding a certain Chez Damier and Stacy Pullen tune from the mid ’90s. It lovingly traces the imprint of classic house music and is a dedication to the spirit of those trailblazing producers. To complete the package, Sumsuch goes to work on “The Storm,” resulting in a typically cinematic and musical rework, brimming with dizzying key changes and off-kilter percussion.

Enough words from us, why not slip out of those boring old clothes and put on some Finest Wear?

Lars Behrenroth (Deeper Shades of House) - “‘The Storm’ is my pick.”
Leigh Morgan (Urban Torque) - “I love this release and have been hammering ‘The Storm’ on the radio show. I really dig the Sumsuch remix, also. Top work all round.”
Tom Lown (Savoir Faire / Lost My Dog) - “Quality deepness here. I’m liking ‘The Storm’ a lot. Sumsuch adds some nice jazzy flavours to it.”
Roope Karhunen (Mirage Men) - “Really original stuff. Mellow melodic content opposite to the sharp rolling beats make a great contrast.”
Sebastian Davidson - “Yes … a classic EP!”
Jevne (OneThirty Recordings) - “This is one hell of a deep release … thumbs up!”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - “Beautifully produced house music … ‘The Storm’ is exactly the kind of vibe I love playing when doing middle sets; just layering the groove, warming the dance floor, and setting down that perfect house vibe.”
Mr Mr (audio tonic / 360º) - “Brilliant stuff here. ‘The Storm’ and ‘For The Love’ are the bombs!”
Andres Aguirre (Urban Torque / Cromarti) - “‘The Storm’ and ‘For The Love’ are just classy gems … I love the vibe on both of these. The Sumsuch remix definitely takes it up a notch with the fatness … a really full sound. Excellent second release!”
The Zars (Till2012 Records / Smooth Agent) - “‘For The Love’ and ‘The Tribute’ both sound great, Chicago classics from the early ’90s but with fresh beats.”
Paul Cassidy (UM Records) - “Nice EP here. The female spoken word on ‘The Storm’ is a real grabber. ‘The Tribute’ has an excellent strong sound to it, also.”
CheckPoint Charlie (MyCuppaT) - “I haven’t heard deep house like this for some time. Four beautiful tracks.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House) - “Dreamy melodies combined with lascivious deep rhythms are guaranteed to set the floor on fire.”
