Juan Hoerni feat. Terry Dexter - Stuck In The Middle (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Once again, Los Angeles house music don Juan Hoerni joins forces with singer Terry Dexter for another uplifting slice of dancefloor bliss. "Stuck in the Middle," released on Juan's Cha Cha Project Recordings imprint, features immaculate performances from both the players — including Scott Wozniak on keys — and Terry Dexter. The accumulation of soulful expertise helps to welcome the warm summer air as things heat up on the floor. A disco-accented rhythm section drives electric piano chords and swirling organ riffs, laying down the perfect musical bed for Terry Dexter's emotive, memorable vocal performance. Top-notch all around.

The legendary Jovonn, an undisputed pioneer of the '90s' NYC/New Jersey house music sound, is on hand for a trio of prime-time remixes. Jovonn's Main Mix toughens the rhythm and accompanies it with a staccato synth bass line. The vocal is solidly at the fore, with the organ and key melodies providing support. Jovonn also supplies a Dub version of this mix, as well as a Stripdown Mix. The latter really shows off Terry Dexter's incredible vocal, pushing it further up in the mix while downplaying most of the keyboard elements. Superb all around.

Hector Romero (Def Mix) – “Right on. I’m feeling this. Nice one to all involved.”
Frank Situation (Situation) – “This is deep fire! Great work.”
Brad Eller (Glass Slipper) – “Right up my alley! Love the vocal, and Scott’s keys are dope as always.”

Edground (Brazillian Soul Crew) – “This is an amazing release. All mixes are perfect.”

Juan Hoerni - Lost Tracks Vol II (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Juan Hoerni returns with his acclaimed soulful house imprint, the Los Angeles-based Cha Cha Project Recordings, to unearth another set of top-notch house music tunes. Lost Tracks Vol II brings together three floor-primed solo tracks from Juan and three collaborations with names to those familiar with the Cha Cha family. The release begins with one of those collabs, the uplifting "Winter Love Affair" featuring the vocalist Chezere (Vega Records, Large Music). Chunky piano chords, a low-key disco beat, and exquisite live instrumentation brilliant back Chezere's emotional performance. The sweet, gospel-inflected tones of in-demand singer Maurice Smith can be heard on the lush and vibrant "Let Me Explore" as well as "Dani," remixed here with a tribal flavor by legendary New Jersey producer Jovonn (Body N’ Deep). Juan's three cuts are likewise as impressive, from the strutting Tenaglia-influenced vocal house of "Got Some Time" to the Latin-fueled deepness of "Deep Rumble" to "I Am the One" and its swinging ode to old school speech house. All these cuts are sublime and sophisticated, ready and waiting for DJs and home listening alike.

Chance Packer featuring Terry Dexter - Rectify (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

San Francisco’s Chance Packer collaborates with Detroit’s Terry Dexter on “Rectify,” connecting Motor City soul with the gritty pulse of The Bay. This new single, released on Cha Cha Project Recordings, is in itself a ‘message to the soul,’ deeply and personally inspired by loved ones lost. Packer — who has worked with luminaries like Miguel Migs, Roy Davis Jr, and Juan Hoerni — lends his crisp, uplifting production to this certified house groover. Intricate drum machine programming and moving electric piano chords work together to fill the dance floor. Terry Dexter — with an illustrious career beginning two decades ago with Warner Bros. — provides an explosive and inspiring vocal performance. Her lyrics point to a spiritual reawakening of self love — a hybrid of house music and hand-raising testament. The remix comes courtesy of the legendary Jovonn (Dogmatik, Objektivity, Deeply Rooted House, and many others) who lends a touch of the soulful New Jersey ‘90s sound he’s known for. The mix further spotlights Dexter’s vocal and wraps it in a hypnotic dream of rhythm and melodic riffs. Jovonn’s dub takes things deeper still, bringing out his organ solo while Dexter’s effected vocals bubble up into the mix. “Rectify” is a spiritual music experience that ignites the magic deep within.

Juan Hoerni - Love On High (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Following the “Love Rewind” single from Los Angeles-based soulful house mainstay Cha Cha Project Recordings, Juan Hoerni returns with his flavor-packed full-length, Love on High.

Throughout, the album is a showcase of expert craftsman production whose disco elements are perfectly offset with spare jazz-infused instrumentation.Love on High drops with “Love Rewind” featuring vocal performances from Maurice Smith and Chezere. The singers create a moving interplay that brings home the song’s positive message over jazzy keys, a rolling live bass line, and a tastefully driving drum section.

Roy Davis Jr. remixes “Love on High” with cascading percussion, driving bass, and expertly placed embellishments (more cowbell!) amplifying the original vocals by Terry Dexter. The perfectly produced “Cabaret Le Freak” is a disco stomp-and-romp with spare keys. Elsewhere, with vocal support from Irantzu Pujadas and remixes by Terry Hunter and Jovonn, “Love On High” is jam-packed with juicy house and disco love primed and ready for summer.
