Carlos Alfonzo - Sonido (Boogie Basics)

Boogie Basics takes it to the house with “Sonido,” a stomping new single from Carlos Alfonzo. A strong part of the San Francisco bay area’s electronic music scene, Carlos has roots that reach back to 1993 when his love for house music was inspired by artists like DJ Dan, Doc Martin, and Little Louie Vega. He began producing in 2001 and has never looked back, having gone on to found his own label, Vibrance Recordings.

“Sonido” has a big room Miami tribal sound. Make no doubt about it - this cut is dark and driving with straight to the point drums and an ecstatic rave-era lead. On remix duties is acclaimed Los Angeles veteran Sean Ray. His work can be found on such notable labels as Nervous Records as well as previous Boogie Basics singles. Using sleight of hand, Sean strips the original back and airs it out to give the underlaying groove a chance to really open up while losing none of its initial impact.

Sean Ray - Fiend For You (Boogie Basics)

Los Angeles label Boogie Basics aligns with one of their city’s own for “Fiend For You" from veteran DJ/producer Sean Ray. Sean’s been DJ’ing endlessly in the L.A. area, playing notable venues and festivals like Vanguard, Electric Daisy Carnival, and even the Tron-themed ElecTRONica event. His highlight as a DJ was perhaps a 2010 New Year’s Eve gig in Vietnam which found Sean Ray in front of about 30,000 revelers. As a producer, Sean is part of Hollywood Knightz and has had his work appear on the discographies of Looq, System Recordings, Perfecto, and Gut Feel Records.

"Fiend For You" is a sleek, late-night house music cut that glides like a sports car on cruise control. A steady drum machine rhythm and a warm low end provide the groove while bell-like synths gently play the melody. A soulful vocal sings "I’ll treat you right" adding - shall we say - fiendishly to the cut’s magic. Top stuff.

The two remixes turn the energy knob to ‘11’ for bigger room broadcasts. NYC-to-L.A. producer Mark Kane (Stripped Digital, Looq) adds a growling bass to some solid nightclub rhythms, slicing the vocals into effective stabs and bursts. A nice mid-section breakdown builds to a dance-inducing climax. The second remix comes from Britisher-in-Asia Rob Nutek (Baroque, RE:NU) who gives “Fiend For You” a funky, insistent four-on-the-floor drive. Dubby treatments are added to the vocal hits in key sections while truncated synth chords and a rolling bass line accelerate the track’s movement. It’s another fine set of club-worthy tunes from our friends at Boogie Basics.

Darin Epsilon (Perfecto / Baroque) - “Nice remix work here by Mark Kane.”
Al Bradley (Audiotonic / 3am Recordings) - “Solid business here, all three cuts working well. Rob Nutek gets the vote from me though, a superb rolling techy vibe which’ll nail the dancefloor!”
DK Watts (Short Bus Kids) - “I like the fact all the remixes are different … Mark Kane’s works best for me!”
Cheets (Global Dance Sessions) - “The Nutek mix is fierce!”
Louk (Compulzion) - “Mark Kane mix is my favorite and I like the percussion on Rob Nutek’s mix.”
Aldrin (Zouk Club) - “Feelin’ Rob Nutek’s funky rework.”
Jamie Topham (CD Pool) - “Cool house grooves with Mark Kane’s remix creating the most energy for the kind of dancefloors I know.”
Velanche (Urban Landscapes) - “‘Fiend for You’ is a deep and sexy track … feelin’ it! I also enjoy the Mark Kane remix.”
Ant Nichols (KISS 101 Radio) - “Mark Kane Remix … real nice!”
SimonG (Deep South Audio) - “The beats are smokey and slick, very adult with lush complex layers that infectiously work your wiggle. Its not candy music for the kids, definitely for the heads.”
