Carlos Alfonzo - Sonido (Boogie Basics)

Boogie Basics takes it to the house with “Sonido,” a stomping new single from Carlos Alfonzo. A strong part of the San Francisco bay area’s electronic music scene, Carlos has roots that reach back to 1993 when his love for house music was inspired by artists like DJ Dan, Doc Martin, and Little Louie Vega. He began producing in 2001 and has never looked back, having gone on to found his own label, Vibrance Recordings.

“Sonido” has a big room Miami tribal sound. Make no doubt about it - this cut is dark and driving with straight to the point drums and an ecstatic rave-era lead. On remix duties is acclaimed Los Angeles veteran Sean Ray. His work can be found on such notable labels as Nervous Records as well as previous Boogie Basics singles. Using sleight of hand, Sean strips the original back and airs it out to give the underlaying groove a chance to really open up while losing none of its initial impact.

Leandro P. featuring Devail - Sinta-se (Nylon Trax)

Nylon Trax is pleased to present “Sinta-se,” the follow up single from the Sao Paulo-based DJ Leandro P., featuring his seasoned uncle Devail on vocals. Leandro P. (given name: Leandro Pereira) is a staple of the Brazilian deep house scene, DJ’ing at renowned club events like Deep Soul Sessions, Ritual House, and Grooveland Party as well as broadcasting his weekly Ritual House Sessions radio show on Discotheque Radio. His sets are known for blending all the possibilities of rhythmic electronic beats, melodies and vocals with sprinkles of jazz, soul, afro-beat, and disco while keeping the vibe deep. Devail was born Devail José da Silva in 1955 in São Luiz do Paraitinga (SP), one of many talented family members and drawing inspiration from his father and older brothers. Devail began his career as guitarist at age 14 and went playing in several dance bands in the Paraíba Valley and region, developing a taste for musical diversity.

The song “Sinta-se” is an evocative deep house number with rolling percussive elements, flowing synth pads, and warm bass pulses accompanying Devail captivating and haunting vocal. The song was inspired by the observation that people always seek your light and happiness outside of themselves, without realizing it. In addition to the superb original Leandro P. also provides a Broken Beat Mix which adds some distinctive rhythmic interplay to the proceedings. Heavy remixes by New Yorkers Franke Estevez (West End Records, Jellybean Soul), and Jaymz Nylon (Nylon Trax) take an already out of this sphere track to uncharted soundscapes. Closing out the package, Lusi Mel and Monocles & Slezz, sons of South Africa, AKA the new house music capital of the world, seal their remixes of “Sinta-se” in internal deepness.

Vincent Kwok - Afrique (Transport Recordings)

San Francisco’s Transport Recordings is proud to present the latest from Vincent Kwok, the ambitious and exotic house music single “Afrique.” Blending the west coast’s deep house sound with African-inspired rhythms and instrumentation, Vincent has created a hypnotic number that swells and builds with layers of melody and flowing chords. The original cut is pure Balearic house bliss, sure to please Vincent’s fans as well as win many new ones. There’s also Vincent Kwok’s Deep Trip which takes “Afrique” into more solid deep house territory with its grooving bass line, distant saxophone melody, and echoing pads over the steady four-on-the-floor. Transport’s own DJ MFR is also on hand for his reinterpretation of “Afrique,” lending a production that is appealingly heavy on the tribal percussion while still retaining Vincent’s melodic base. MFR has supplied a Beats version, as well, giving the DJ a chance to work with the remix’s intricate percussion. Undoubtedly it’s another surefire winner from Vincent Kwok and Transport Recordings.

Luis Armando - Futuro EP (Release Musiq)

Luis Armando returns to Release Musiq for the Futuro EP, a finely crafted set of bouncing world music-flavored tech-house tracks tailor-made for serious nightclub escapades. Armando’s previous output for Release Musiq and Electrik Soul Recordings cemented his trademark style of tough, house music beats over rolling bass lines, accented with latin-inspired percussion flourishes that hint at the producer’s Cuban heritage. These four cuts build and expand on this recipe, yielding some solid, peak time after hours heat. One will find “Futuro” with its exotic, otherworldly feel; the crowd-pleasing jackin’ stomp of “Dia de Los Novios;” the almost mythic, hypnotic vibe of “La Puerta;” and “Child of Us” with its dense, reverb layered melodies and atmospherics. It’s another choice EP from Luis Armando and Release Musiq, and one that will certainly find a home in DJ sets for years to come.
