Jason Mitchell - Devil In The Detail / Just A Little Lower (Deep House Aficionado)

Deep House Aficionado is in the summer swing of things with a new deep house single from its very own Jason Mitchell. A staple of the Sydney house music scene behind the decks, he has been making a name for himself behind the mixing desk as of late. He has enjoyed releases with Deep 8 Recordings, Slick Records, and Soulstar Records while operating his own label, now on its fifth release. “Devil In The Detail” is littered with stuttering vocals, crisp hats, and rapid fire claps over a jacking bass and quintessential chord stabs. “Just A Little Lower” finds most of its groove in the low end, with subtle synths placed like beacons guiding the listener forward. The two originals are extended mixing material, sure to find their fit layered with other deep house grooves.

Jason Mitchell - Deep In (Deep House Aficionado)

Australia’s Deep House Aficionado imprint is back for round two with “Deep In,” a follow up release from Jason Mitchell. At the beginning of building his production career with upcoming releases on Maintain Replay Records and RoboCrafting Music, Mitchell has previously earned his stripes with time spent behind the decks as a staple of Sydney’s house music scene. His new single is a deep house lover’s delight, finding its groove from old school keys, a powerful bass line, and punchy percussion. Clitterhouse, a fellow longtime resident at Sydney’s MAD Bar, is welcomed back on remix duties using the opportunity to dirty up the bass, delay the synths and keys, and increase tension with an abyss-like breakdown. With a noticeably different direction from the other two mixes, Anchor and Vessel (Wizz Records, Baroque Digital) take a deep, progressive approach, adding in techy percussive elements for good effect. This young label has sweetly slipped into its sophomore release, showing they’re comfortable going deep in the Down Under.

Jason Mitchell - The Down Side (Deep House Aficionado)

Australia’s Deep House Aficionado imprint launches with “The Down Side,” the debut release from Sydney’s Jason Mitchell. While it may be his first time in the production credits, MItchell has earned his stripes with time spent behind the decks as a staple of Sydney’s house music scene. With “The Down Side,” MItchell sets his sights on the deep side of house, delivering a single underlined with pulsing bass, driven by reverb-drenched, phase-effected synth stabs, and finished with scissor-like hats and percussive clicks. Sydney scene veteran Robbie Lowe, who has previous releases on the likes of Proton, Roccoco and Low Pressings, remixes “The Down Side” with a fittingly funky approach, smoothing things over with softer synths and the addition of vocal ‘daps,’ bongos, strings, dub effects, and a fattened bass line. For the second mix, Mitchell enlisted Clitterhouse, a fellow longtime resident at Sydney’s MAD Bar, also making a strong production debut. Taking the track in the opposite direction as the first remix, Clitterhouse raises the stakes with a hard kick-snare combo and a fast-paced arpeggiated techno bass line. A swaggering stutter to the higher pitched synths is also presented, solidifying any doubts about energy intensions. The three mixes combine to form an impressive, well-rounded introduction to the new label from Down Under.

Brett Johnson - “Pretty cool deepness. Nice for the warm up.”
Tensnake - “The original is quite good.”
Diz (Iz and Diz / Vizual) - “Heaters!”
Q-Burns Abstract Message - “Robbie Lowe mix for me … very cushy deep vibe with good low end growl.”
Andrew Duke (Cognition Audioworks) - “That Robbie Lowe remix is gorgeous.”
Hippie Torrales - “Nice deep feel.”
Christos Kedras (Kapa Music) - “Robbie Lowe stands out here with his deep hypnotic groover. In the bag.”
Discomendments (Out of Bounds) - “Nice dimension through the use of clean cutting sounds, rolling grooves, and thick reverbs. All mixes work on different levels.”
Kadabra (The House Hookup Radio Show) - “These all sound terrific. The original mix is my early fave.”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “The bass line just grabs you on the Robbie Lowe mix.”
Advokkat (Radio RDM, France) - “Great track. The Citterhouse remix is hypnotic.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House) - “Wicked deep house, with the enthralling original being my pick.”
