Venntaur - Just Once (DeepWit Recordings)

Acclaimed deep house imprint DeepWit Recordings returns with a superb new single from Finnish artist Venntaur. Based in the city of Tampere, Venntaur is a rising DJ and producer specializing in the deep, sophisticated, and melodic, with a rich history of genre experimentation. Here he presents two floor-approved cuts, leading with the rousing "You Got Feeling". A solid kick drum accompanied by a Detroit-flavored bass line opens the track, and things soon get spicy as warm pads, a swingy hi-hat, and a garage-style vocal hook enter the scene. It's elegant stuff, sure to give good vibes to many late nights. Tokyo's Datakestra (Adaptation Music / UNKNOWN Season) is on hand to give "You Got Feeling" a classy rub-down, providing a modern interpretation that shimmies and shakes with sublime confidence.

"Just Once" follows, taking things a into a more submerged, sexier sonic realm. A rumbling low end is complimented with gentle chords, floating synth strings, and breathy vocal phrases, driven along by a crisp rhythm track. Australia's Jason Mitchell – of the Deep House Aficionado label – is on hand for a sparser but energetic remix of "Just Once" that features a prominent bass line and well-placed vocal hits. The drum track is of a slightly quicker tempo and is embellished with nicely syncopated claps.

Venntaur's two tracks and their remixes make for a fine single that will rightly suit DJs in an after-hours mood. The release continues DeepWit's string of high quality house music releases, showing the label to be an ambitious and consistent player on the scene. Dive in.

Jason Mitchell - Devil In The Detail / Just A Little Lower (Deep House Aficionado)

Deep House Aficionado is in the summer swing of things with a new deep house single from its very own Jason Mitchell. A staple of the Sydney house music scene behind the decks, he has been making a name for himself behind the mixing desk as of late. He has enjoyed releases with Deep 8 Recordings, Slick Records, and Soulstar Records while operating his own label, now on its fifth release. “Devil In The Detail” is littered with stuttering vocals, crisp hats, and rapid fire claps over a jacking bass and quintessential chord stabs. “Just A Little Lower” finds most of its groove in the low end, with subtle synths placed like beacons guiding the listener forward. The two originals are extended mixing material, sure to find their fit layered with other deep house grooves.

t0rne - Another Day (Deep House Aficionado)

For their fourth release, Australia’s Deep House Aficionado springs forward with a new name from Brisbane: t0rne. With previous releases on Spring Tube and Groove Life Records, t0rne is becoming known for his deep house work. “Another Day" is a blossoming house tune with playful Rhodes keys, hopeful vocals, and percussive claps adding an extra touch of rhythm. Also fresh to the label and hailing from Brisbane, Rimo takes his remix in a heads down direction, chopping and revolving the original’s elements to peak reactions. Label operator and Sydney resident Jason Mitchell marries the melodic stabs with the low end frequencies in his remix, adding a tense, building techno loop at times. Another day, another dance floor.

Hippie Torrales - “Rocking, and on fire.”

Jason Mitchell - Up and In (Deep House Aficionado)

Australia’s Deep House Aficionado imprint is now on its third release from Jason Mitchell. After previously earning his stripes through time spent behind the decks as a staple of Sydney’s house music scene, Mitchell is coming into his own with original productions. He has released with Maintain Replay Records, RoboCrafting Music, and has a forthcoming EP for Deep8 Recordings. His new single “Up and In” has a short and sweet motif to it, making the most out of shuffling hats with fast paced bass and key notes providing a contagious groove. This track is totally stripped to the bare minimum, but by the end of it the listener is none the wiser having thoroughly gone along for the ride. A reoccurring label remixer and fellow longtime resident at Sydney’s MAD Bar, Clitterhouse loosens the filters of the original for a wetter sound. Also adding his touch this time around is Demarkus Lewis, a man of many sides who has made himself a ‘house’-hold name with releases on some of the genre’s iconic labels. He contributes energetic vocal bits, wavering strings, and edgy, powerful leads that build and release tension throughout its six and a half minutes. For this third time at bat, Deep House Aficionado has been consistent, a sure sign of they label’s growing reputation on the Australian house music scene.

Tensnake - “Shimmering remix from Demarkus Lewis!”
Matthias Vogt (Motorcitysoul / Large Records) - “This is taking me back … great vibes on the original.”

Rafael Moraes (Nomumbah / Yoruba) - “I’m feeling the original … nice groove.”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “That bass ride just has me moving … tidy groove and a real nice mood to this mix.”
Alvaro Hylander (DeepWit Recordings) - “I’m liking the more sparse original the most, but I have to admit Demarkus Lewis nailed it down pretty good, too.”
DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - “I’m madly in love the original. It’s just raw and simple but sounds so rich to me.”
Carlo Gambino (Midnight Social Recordings) - “The original is my pick off the release … I love the stripped back groove to it.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - “Strong selection of beats here. The original and Clitterhouse versions are cool, but Demarkus Lewis gets the nod with his more focused & steady groove … wicked build, too.”
DJ Deelay (Underground Sessions, UK) - “My kind of deep house. I’ve been following Jason Mitchell’s sound and I like what’s been coming out.”
