Frederick Alonso - Tides feat. Denitia (DeepWit Recordings)

As DeepWit Recordings celebrates a decade of releasing quality deep house, organic house, and electronica in 2021, the label brings “Tides feat. Denitia,” a stellar new single from Belgian producer Frederick Alonso. Included are two remixes, one from the up-and-coming South African producer Donluiz Musicue (House Afrika, Soulique Felas Music) and DeepWit’s own label head Alvaro Hylander.

“Tides” stands out not just for its overarching classic feel but also for the stunning vocals from Denitia. Also lauded in the virtual pages of Pitchfork, Stereogum, and The Guardian, no less than The Fader hailed Denitia’s voice as “the epitome of soulful”. Her vocals are at the forefront of “Tides,” a track steeped in a sun-drenched vibe thanks in part to pads that invoke the movement of the oceans. This is the sound of deep house ushering in the sun.

Alvaro Hylander does justice to “Tides” and its outstanding vocals with a remix that offers up everything one could want in a soulful, deep house track. Hylander delivers pure quality through the driving force of the organic bass line and the revamped vocal treatment. Next, Donluiz Musicue comes at “Tides” from a laid back direction that’s suitable for dubbed-out Sunday afternoon sessions. There are times when less is more and this is a track that fits that perfectly.

Rounding out the release is the Deep Waters Mix, invoking the mood of its title — darker and even deeper than the original version. With its hypnotic melody and turbulent soundscape, this is a track for those late, late nights.

To sum it up, this is what deep house music on DeepWit sounds like after over a 1000 tracks released and no intent on stopping anytime soon.

Venntaur - Just Once (DeepWit Recordings)

Acclaimed deep house imprint DeepWit Recordings returns with a superb new single from Finnish artist Venntaur. Based in the city of Tampere, Venntaur is a rising DJ and producer specializing in the deep, sophisticated, and melodic, with a rich history of genre experimentation. Here he presents two floor-approved cuts, leading with the rousing "You Got Feeling". A solid kick drum accompanied by a Detroit-flavored bass line opens the track, and things soon get spicy as warm pads, a swingy hi-hat, and a garage-style vocal hook enter the scene. It's elegant stuff, sure to give good vibes to many late nights. Tokyo's Datakestra (Adaptation Music / UNKNOWN Season) is on hand to give "You Got Feeling" a classy rub-down, providing a modern interpretation that shimmies and shakes with sublime confidence.

"Just Once" follows, taking things a into a more submerged, sexier sonic realm. A rumbling low end is complimented with gentle chords, floating synth strings, and breathy vocal phrases, driven along by a crisp rhythm track. Australia's Jason Mitchell – of the Deep House Aficionado label – is on hand for a sparser but energetic remix of "Just Once" that features a prominent bass line and well-placed vocal hits. The drum track is of a slightly quicker tempo and is embellished with nicely syncopated claps.

Venntaur's two tracks and their remixes make for a fine single that will rightly suit DJs in an after-hours mood. The release continues DeepWit's string of high quality house music releases, showing the label to be an ambitious and consistent player on the scene. Dive in.

Jonbjorn - All The Way (DeepWit Recordings)

The thing about colder climates is that they allow inhabitants a mass amount of time to stay indoors and work on quality music. "All The Way", the latest single on DeepWit Recordings, was birthed in Iceland and comes from Jonbjorn, one of the artists behind that country's stand out label, Lagaffe Tales. As a naturally talented producer with a knack for simple hooks that make repeat listens a must, Jonbjorn crafts an all-too-rare-these-days ear worm that leaves an insatiable hunger for more. "All The Way" is warm and skittery with a fat kick and equally heavyweight sub bass. Increasing the heat, the label follows it up with an inextinguishable rework by Junktion who delivers pure, one-man-disco-band fire. Between his label Outplay, various appearances on vinyl imprints, and an outstandingly deep sound, this Dutchman shows a massive amount of poise with a remix whose quality can't be over-exaggerated. To round out the single, Lagaffe Tales' other half, Viktor Birgiss, shapes the original into its most housey form yet with an addictive, dance-friendly and melodically moving piece of ice capped bliss. With this release, DeepWit has put its foot down on what the label thinks deep house should be, in pursuit of quality and unbothered by others' chase for trendier sounds.

Matthias Vogt (Motorcitysoul / Large Records) - "Nice release, and an outstanding Junktion remix."
Hollis P Monroe - "Nice package over all but the Junktion remix takes the cake."
Natural Rhythm (Natural Rhythm Music) - "The Junktion remix is where it's at for me. Just groovy and hypnotic in the right amounts."
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Beautiful!"
SlanG (Spring Tube / Movement) - "Good deep stuff, especially the remix by Viktor Birgiss."
Ourra (Pop Out And Play / Alola) - "The original cut is lovely, simple, warm, uncomplicated, and great!"
Jaymz Nylon (Nylon Trax / Adult Selections) - "The original and the Junktion remix are my favorites. Great project."
Alkalino (Estimativa / Audaz Recordings) - "Great atmospheres! I dig them all."
Richie Hartness (untitledmusic) - "Viktor Birgiss's remix has a great vibe."
Kirby (Nordic Trax / Kolour) - "Both remixes sounds great … nice vibe! Cool and groovy with a twist."
Distant People (Foliage / Seamless) - "Full of funk and large beats … this is doing it for me."
Edground (Brazilian Soul Crew) - "Very nice release. All mixes are perfect."
Rory Cochrane (Deep Site Recordings) - "Viktor Birgiss hits the spot for me … lovely deep house sounds."
Myxzlplix (Subdivisions Global) - "I'm digging this for sure. I like the low-slung original, the pseudo nu-disco of Junktion's remix, and the Viktor Birgiss remix tops it off quite nicely."
Mark Mac (The Sounds Collective Radio Show) - "This is a step into a slightly different direction for DeepWit, and it's an excellent step. More beat-based tech sounds with a solid kick and warm off key notes ... nice, solid sounds."
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) - "I love the live drum feel on the Junktion remix. I could imagine the likes of Danny Howells playing this."
Kadabra (The House Hookup Radio Show) - "All the mixes are nice. The simple hook got me -- particularly the vocal sample used. I really think Junktion smashed the remix though … I can't wait to play that one early!"
Michael Fossati (Spirit Of House) - "Beautiful slice of laid back yet mesmerizing late night house."

Agent Libre - Miles Away (DeepWit Recordings)

For their last single of the year DeepWit Recordings introduce “Miles Away,” which is exactly where these tracks transport the listener and the dance floor. The original version comes from Agent Libre, the newest alias of Reagan Grey. With this new name, she will be focusing on the deep, smooth side of house and techno. Alongside her other moniker, Girls On Synths, Reagan stands at the forefront of female producers in the house genres. In her first single on DeepWit, she provides a full powered deep house classic. With warm vibrant house sounds mixed flawlessly with deeper, lush kicks and pads, this track is what deep house should sound like.

Following up the original “Miles Away” is a remix from Demarkus Lewis (Grin Traxx, Guesthouse Music) who needs little way in introduction to deep house heads. The feel good, sophisticated, and timeless vibe from Demarkus will leave one hitting the repeat button and acknowledging the reason why he is considered a man at the front of the American scene.

Reagan also provided a remix that has the touch of what has been referred to as the ‘new deep house sound’ with the emphasize on ‘house.’ Its chugging vibe will draw the listener along into a head bobbing and feet shuffling bliss.

The last remix comes from DeepWit’s label head, Alvaro Hylander, a man who has become known for his organic, sensual, and moody sound in the underground of European deep house. His distinct flavor can easily be heard in this remix as he pours out a hypnotic and clean vibe that leaves one feeling fresh and wanting more.

As DeepWit feels these are three of the best remixes to have graced the label alongside the epitome of deep house encased in the original, there is no better way for the Danish imprint to end another amazing year.
