The Carry Nation + The Cucarachas - Warriors (Get Up Recordings)

New York’s Get Up Recordings presents a true transatlantic effort in the form of the single “Warriors” from The Carry Nation and The Cucarachas. The idea for “Warriors” began as The Carry Nation (Will Automagic and DJ Nita) were touring Europe in support of the “This Bitch Is Alive” single and decided to stop in London for a visit with their friends Borja Pena and Tom Stephan, who make up The Cucarachas. A feverish ten hour studio session ensued with the foundation for “Warriors” as a result. Once the The Carry Nation returned across the ocean, each duo completed their own version, with a US Mix and a UK Mix as evidence.

“Warriors” is a percussive house music stomper with a good dose of retro flavor and a topping of after-hours energy. The samples in the track might not come as a surprise due to the title, but they are used rhythmically and creatively in a way that feels quite fresh. The breakdowns are expressive and unpredictable and should generate megawatts of dance floor electricity. The crew enlisted the legendary Tedd Patterson for the first in a set of remixes and the man from Vibal Recordings definitely delivers. Patterson unleashes a Dance Mix, a Dub Mix, and the ‘vital for DJs’ Battle Beats version. These mixes give a further nod to an old school sound while pulsing and grooving in a modern fashion. Crucial beats, indeed. Patterson is actually the only act on this single that is not a ‘duo’ as Fatherhood (Michael Magnan and Physical Therapy) and DONKEY (Josh Sparber and Mikey Fuentes) close out the remixes. Fatherhood’s mix takes things a bit deeper with atmospheric percussion and spacey synth pads creating an otherworldly vibe. DONKEY drags “Warriors” into the warehouse with a booming and dark interpretation that sounds both exhilarating and a little dangerous.

The quality on display from “Warriors” has inspired The Carry Nation and The Cucarachas to make their collaboration a regular occurrence, added to the agenda whenever one or the other crosses the big pond. Until then, enjoy this exceptional offering from Get Up Recordings with the promise of much more to come.
