Soundpersecond Sampler (Soundpersecond Records)

Soundpersecond, a new house label from Italy, is pleased to introduce themselves with a compilation of their very first releases in the form of a sampler. This format fits well with their vision to break down the barriers of house music, uniting the full spectrum of soulful, deep, funk, nu-disco, and beyond. They’ve collected songs from veterans including “Turn Me Loose,” a Woodymann (Woody Bianchi) and Arthur Baker collaboration, “What Love Is” from the mysterious DJ duo Face Off, and the ambitious “Revolution” from multi-instrumentalist Dave Davison. Remixes come from deep house chart staple Aki Bergen, ’70s re-inventors Boogie Filtered, and the ’80s-influenced Elektromekanik. The originals were written with vocals in mind, balancing the line between club and song structured pieces. Regardless of influences, each track is well produced using a sound palette of acid, balearic, boogie, and nu-disco to create dynamic dance music.

liquid light - Human Condition (Blue Bass Records)

The Human Condition is the latest from the Greece-based producer Sotiris Riniou, the man behind liquid light. Sotiris has a vinyl discography stretching back over a decade, and launched his own Blue Bass Records label in 2005 with liquid light’s “Loverise” and the follow-up single “Groove Addiction.” These early releases grabbed the attention of the likes of Laurent Garnier, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela, and Anthony Pappa. Sotiris’ new EP starts in constricted minimal techno territory, opening up into melodic house hybrids as the four tracks unravel. “Rephlex" is the sparsest, but still manages to hinge itself on a neurotic funkiness. Pulsing with low-end right off the bat, "Come Together" ebbs into epic string climaxes. With its tribal bounce and glitchy accents, "Shake That Thing" will energize a room while "Until We Meet Again" ends the release on a drawn out, euphoric high.

Anthony Pappa (Red Light District / Bedrock) - “Cool EP. The best track here for me is ‘Come Together.’”
Stacey Pullen - “This is cool.”
Orde Meikle (Slam / Soma) - “Cool tunes.”
Chris Fortier (Field Trip / Fade) - “Nice deepness.”
Daniel Bortz (Suol / Pastamusik) - “Sounds cool!”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “Deep and full of tension … a funky and edgy sound.”
Snooba (Radio Panik / Contrebande Radio) - “‘Shake That Thing’ is infectious!”
Mark Mac (The Sounds Collective) - “Top production and bang on quality for the house heads.”
QuestionmarQ (Vision Collective / Red FM, Ireland) - “Brilliant stuff … just chugs along perfectly.”
Niksa Dragolin (Eurostar Radio, Croatia) - “Greece is delivering a very fresh producers and liquid light is one of them. All of these tracks are good.”

Krystian Shek - Destroy & Rebuild V2 (Cold Busted)

The Cold Busted label returns with German producer Krystian Shek for the new album Destroy & Rebuild V2. Krystian appeared on the scene in 2003 with his first of three artist albums on the late Pete Namlook’s FAX +49–69/450464 label. Impressively prolific, other albums appeared on labels such as the Indonesian imprint UTC Wired and Diventa Recordings while singles have found their way onto Berettamusic and previous Cold Busted releases. Destroy & Rebuild V2 takes on world influences matched with sharply percussive downtempo beats. Highlights include the sweet sounds found sifting through the South East Asia-inspired “Soi Honey,” the funky breaks, spaced-out Middle East synth melodies, and grinding bass line that make up “Muammar Al Gaddafi,” and the glitchy acid-tinged “Sunshine." The latter wouldn’t feel out of place as the theme to a dramatic special agent movie scene shot in some exotic location (music licensors for action films take note). A solid collection.

Quincy Jointz (Timewarp Music) - “Fresh beats and fat production with a taste of the golden age of downbeats. Good one.”
Stereo 77 (Plimsoll Records) - “There are some really cool things happening here … another Cold Busted classic!”
Basement Freaks - “Lovely.”
Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - “The track ‘Sunshine’ rules!”
Double-D (Funky Fresh Radio Show, Germany) - “Some different styles on this one, but all rockin’ fresh with some hip hop feeling.”
Doc Proof (Funkanomics) - “Great chill vibes … I love it.”
DJ Nartak (Nightflight / Klassik Lounge) - “Diverse in style and sound … downtempo as it should be.”
Sam Hopkins (AccuRadio, Chicago) - “The variety here is refreshing. The melodic tracks are beautiful, and the more beat-heavy tracks are bangers!”
Aja Allsop (Ketch A Vibe Radio Show) - “Eclectic beats and sounds to astound the senses.”
Marc Lacasse (sHIFT Radio / Jackhouse) - “There are a lot of happy sounds revolving around each track. It’s springtime and these jams will get people in the mood.”
Clairvo (Tilos Radio, Hungary) - “I’m enjoying the fresh sounds and the far east elements.”
DJ Morpheus (Lysergic Factory / Radio Campus) - “Superb tracks in here … totally up my alley. They are lovely and zany and exotic at times.”

Various Artists - Get Up To Get Down - Volume One (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings is ready to release the first in a series of mini compilations, adding to its diverse catalog of music. Get Up to Get Down - Volume One contains four exceptional house tracks from four unique artists: W. Jeremy, Peter Shalvoy, The Good Connection, and Dr. Sleep.

W. Jeremy is a NYC based DJ and producer and is co-owner of the Get Up Recordings music label. He has previously produced under the moniker House of Stank and recently released his well-received first solo work, the Augusto EP, on Get Up Recordings. His contribution to this release, “Upward Spiral,” is a tech-y inspired jam with a deep groove and an uplifting melody.

The second track comes from Peter Shalvoy, a veteran NYC DJ and recent Las Vegas transplant. His recent forays into production have been garnering attention on a new frontier. Adding his impression to the release, “On The Left” borrows from the classic house track “Set it Off,” reinterpreting it into a slick and modern house track.

The Good Connection (formerly known as The Connection) is the music project of Hollis Good, AKA Hollis Smith, a NYC-based music producer, sound designer, and audio engineer for film, television, and radio. “On Your Mind” is an epically smooth track from Hollis with a beautiful sweeping lead and a pumping bass line melody.

Finishing off the compilation, Dr. Sleep has been DJ’ing in Minneapolis and San Francisco since 2003. She has also produced film scores in a synth and sample-based project called Paperboats, hosted the radio show Dots and Loops, and currently runs the techno label Jacktone Records. Beautifully produced and full of lush soundscapes, her piece “Touché” features a flowing house beat. Voice samples come in and out of the track, drawing the listener closer to it.

Once again, Get Up Recordings shows its strength of diversity by giving recognition to the producers of tomorrow, today.

Doc Martin - “‘On The Left’ I suggest!”
Quentin Harris - “I usually don’t appreciate taking classics and mangling them into a new track. It mostly doesn’t work. But, I have to say Peter Shalvoy did a great job with ‘On The Left.’”
Q-Burns Abstract Message - “I really connect with the swirly pads and twinkling flourishes in ‘On Your Mind’ … ‘Touché’ is also cool and dreamy.”
Claudio Coccoluto - “‘On The Left’ … nice cosmic track.”
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - “Great package … all very good stuff.”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “The nice blend of fresh and retro sounds make this one for me.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - “Dr. Sleep’s ‘Touché’ is my pick … a wicked bass-led groove. Top class.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House) - “‘On The Left’ … beautiful melodic deep house track working the ‘Set It Off’ classic to full effect.”
Jamie Topham (CDPool) - “‘On The Left’ is very cool. I’m loving the big synths and retro nuances.”
Kadabra (The House Hookup Radio Show) - “These are all very nice. I’m always looking forward to W. Jeremy releases in my box.”
Corbin Dooley (Electric Feel Radio Show) - “I absolutely love the vibes on this release … it’s hard to pick a favorite. The synths on Peter Shalvoy’s track really grab you.”
DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - “‘On Your Mind (No Vox Mix)’ by The Good Connection has great flow and its ‘90s keys sound fresh. But I think Dr. Sleep’s dreamy and smooth techno-house hybrid ’‘Touché’’ is the one that I like the most. I found it exceptional.”
