Stereogamous - Where Can We Find Love Again? (Get Up Recordings)

The next release on Get Up Recordings comes from Australia’s Stereogamous. No strangers to the label, Stereogamous turned out the remix for Brooklyn is Burning’s “Movin’ Too Fast” in 2014, but here we find them with their debut for the label, “Where Can We Find Love Again?". They are joined on this lush, gorgeous EP by vocalists Shaun J. Wright of Twirl Recordings and Hard Ton. Hard Ton also remixed the title track along with NYC House music maestro Tedd Patterson.

Stereogamous are the musical equivalent of Mardi Gras that runs all year. Paul Mac and Jonny Seymour have remixed or collaborated with Kylie, George Michael, Jake Shears, Sia, Sam Sparro, LCD Soundsystem, Faker, The Presets and loads more. Their music is best described as 'music for making out', under the genres of 'bottom 40', 'horizontal dance music', and 'bathhouse'. They have played in backroom dance floors all over the planet (Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Horse Meat Disco in London, as well as their long-time residency at Trough in Melbourne), mega festivals (Lovebox, the Big Day Out, Vivid), soundtracked fashion parades (NYC, Paris, Sydney fashion week) and also represented at Gay Pride events all around the circuit (Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, Sydney’s Mardi Gras, Madrid Pride).

The EP starts off with the original mix of the title track. It’s a beautifully deep house song with a warm bass line and pining vocals by Shaun J. Wright and backing vocals by Hard Ton. Shaun, originally from Chicago, came up in the scene thanks to his talent, which landed him in the already popular NYC group Hercules & Love Affair. Hard Ton is the mega-talented musical duo from Italy. DJs, performers, and visual artists, Hard Ton not only contributed the backing vocals, but also did an amazing remix for the track. A dub mix is also included here, with snippets and bursts of vocals laid over rhythmic beats.

The second remix comes from house music master Tedd Patterson. Tedd produces and remixes much like his DJ'ing, with driving percussive beats and deep techno textures. His history in the dance music world is legendary, from an extensive catalog of production work to his DJ sets, truly making him a 'DJ’s DJ'. His remix here is timeless and will be a peak hour track on the dance floor.

Rounding out the EP is a B-side track titled “Deep Train of Thought”. It’s an Orb-like journey through electronic soundscapes and vocoded vocals.

Will Magid - Alligator Spacewalk Remixes (Happy Rabbit)

Will Magid's music is always a joyous affair. His unique style of live performance and electronic sampling seamlessly blend original music with sounds from across the globe. Will, who studied ethnomusicology at UCLA, has gathered inspiration from playing music on six of the seven continents. Trumpet is his primary instrument, and Will uses it to convey a multitude of moods … Havana in the summertime, a West African wedding, and a French dance club are just a few of his imagined sonic destinations. Bonobo, Erykah Badu, Pretty Lights, and J-Boogie are just some of the artists that have utilized Will's talent.

With past releases on the likes of Cold Busted, ESL, and Six Degrees, Will Magid used his own Happy Rabbit imprint to launch the fantastic album Alligator Spacewalk. Performed by 'The Alligator Spacewalk Orchestra', the album was a richly layered collection of jazzy tunes featuring a variety of live instrumentation including string and horn sections, top notch vocals, vintage keys, and Will's own prominent contributions. Just a few months after its release, Happy Rabbit has unveiled a remixed accompaniment to Alligator Spacewalk, fine tuning the tracks for DJs and those who love them. Elektrofant - 1992 (Beatservice Records)

Elektrofant is an uncompromising electronic music duo from Sandnes, Norway. Their music is built on the roots of classic soulful techno while remaining eclectic and unpretentious … 'serious fun' is the name of the game. Consisting of Klaus Skrudland and Knut Jonas Sellevold, Elektrofant previously released an album titled Wørk! and the Flipstick EP, with that EP's title track now regarded as a Norwegian electronic music classic. With a frenetic live show, Elektrofant were the first ever techno act to play the frosty island of Svalbard, close to the North Pole. But then they went silent in 2008, apparently gathering forces for the release of their latest album, a delightful throwback named 1992.

1992, released by Beatservice Records, is nothing less than a stunning tribute to the old school techno and dance music from the early nineties. Even more, it brings back the playful, analogue sound of Elektrofant. The staccato piano chords of "Chantelle" and "Monica"'s synth flute and organ bass notes will certainly bring back memories. There's also the tough, sprawling groove of "Charlize", the relatively smooth space-funk of "Bit99", and "XTC"'s soulful downtempo drum machine moment. These are just a few highlights from a fascinating set that finds Elektrofant continuing to reinvent, surprise, and keep the dance floor grooving.

Ursula 1000 - "Hot!"
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Great stuff indeed."
Tom Psychemagik - "This is fun."
Hard Ton (Toy Tonics / Luv Shack) - "'Bit99' is the one for me … I'll try it out on the floor."
Chris Massey (Paper Recordings / Electriks) - "Real nice sounds. Definitely some Daphne vibes on the 'Chantelle' cut."
Danny Ashenden (C90s / Earl Grey) - "Boom! '90s weird dance, yeah!"
Phunktastike (Spirit Soul Music / Undertones Gang) - "Nice release."
Raoul Lambert (FikFak / We Play House) - "What a serious flashback!"
Hober Mallow (Mighty Reel Radio Show, Australia) - "Very fun retro-style house music … smiles all around."
Richard Hardcastle (Solid State / All Out War) - "I would have certainly bought this album back in the day … many angles of '92 are covered here and pretty convincingly on the whole. Enjoyable."

DJ M3 - Staches & Glasses EP (Green Gorilla Lounge)

Who’s ever said 'no' to a healthy house music chugger? San Francisco's DJ M3 sure hasn’t, and his new Statches & Glasses EP reaffirms this through a three track selection that packs a killer bounce per ounce. All of these cuts are certifiably tech-infused, but with plenty of acid, funk, and soul elements to impart a strong dose of groove. This dance robot is also part human.

“Best of Me“ excites straight from the get-go with a no-nonsense acid riff and soulful vocal snippets that are reminiscent of the high-energy days of rave. “Girl Doesn’t Mess Around” is a sonic chameleon so versatile, it achieves the rare ability to serve as a strong building block for a set while still pumping perfectly at peak time to keep the vibe alive. Rhythmic variations in “Beats & Bones” should keep the dance floor on its toes as the track delivers a genuine good old-fashioned booty shake.

All in all, the Staches & Glasses EP is simply a musical mirror of DJ M3’s dance floors over the years and transmits the maxim that, above all else, dance music can still be a lot of fun.

Chris Todd (Crazy P / Hot Toddy) - "A really good release, and it's great to have dub mixes for all three tracks."
