Anatol - Don't Go (forTunea)

The forTunea label jumps out with its latest vinyl release, the deep and techy “Don’t Go” from Vienna-based DJ/producer Anatol. Originally from Munich, the recently relocated Anatol keeps a busy DJ schedule throughout the city and beyond, and has previously released and remixed for the likes of Hungarian Hot Wax, Tulipe Records, and Plus Recordings.

“Don’t Go” wastes no time in getting right down to business, deftly mixing a snapping rhythm and a deliriously bouncing bass line, and adding loads of builds and strategically placed samples. The cut is laser-focused on the dance floor, sure to shake nightclub speakers into submission. On the b-side, Precious K — one half of Janefondas — and Secret Crunch boss Roman Rauch team up for a cool mid-tempo house remix. The ominous, laid-back vibe leads to mesmerizing synth arpeggiations that’ll send the after-hours crowd into a groovy dream state.

Demarkus Lewis - Find A Way (Viva Recordings)

With a multi-page discography of releases dating back over 15 years, Demarkus Lewis is one of the hardest working men in house music, regularly adding to his diverse string of underground floor fillers. Mastering many house styles, Demarkus has released tech-house bombs on Nervous Records, soulful nuggets on Kingstreet Soundz, hypnotizing afro-rhythms on Slip n Slide, and everything in-between on his own Grin Music imprint. Demarkus now returns to Viva Recordings with “Find A Way,” his follow-up to 2016’s phenomenal “Self Is Steam.”

“Find A Way” is a mesmerizing deep house cut built upon a shimmering motif of cut-up bell-like patterns over Demarkus’s punchy four-on-the-floor rhythm. Ethereal vocal snippets and echoed stabs playfully enter and exit the track, taking the listener on an evocative ride. Demarkus also provides an Alt-Broken Mix which transforms the straight rhythm into a subtle breakbeat and adds a few more melodic elements. Rounding out the single is the spacious bonus track “Downside Up.” Combing an old school Detroit-sensibility through Demarkus Lewis’s production prowess, the cut deftly mashes winding pads, bouncing snare fills, and splashes of truncated vocals into a sly house music jewel.

Linnea Dale & Of Norway - High Hopes (Of Norway Versions) [Beatservice Records]

Oslo-based duo Of Norway — comprised of Vegard Wolf Dyvik and Christian Steenstrup — have made a name for themselves through countless DJ and live gigs and a healthy discography on the esteemed Connaisseur Recordings. And Linnea Dale is a rising Norwegian singer, known as a popular contestant on Idol Norway before releasing a pair of solo albums on Warner Music Norway. Linnea has guested as vocalist on Of Norway’s recordings.

The collaboration continues with “High Hopes.” a song from Linnea’s most recent album, remixed by Of Norway. The track has been a secret weapon in the hands of a select few DJs, now finally receiving a wide release through Beatservice Recordings. It’s a soaring affair, deftly merging Of Norway’s driving electronics with Linnea’s evocative vocals and lyrics. Various Artists - The Lost Tracks (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Los Angeles soulful house label Cha Cha Project Recordings has been going from strength-to-strength, now spotlighting three of the label’s core producers and a trio of vital Lost Tracks.

The EP launches with label don Juan Hoerni in collaboration with the amazing vocalist Chezere. With a discography of over thirty cuts for the likes of Vega Records, Large Music, and WAX, as well as his acclaimed albums Love On High and Move Mountains on his Cha Cha Project label, Juan continues to make waves in the soulful house universe. “Eternally Free” shows Juan’s acumen for deep, melodic music complimenting beautiful vocals, as well as his sharp production aesthetic. This sexy sound will create late night dance floor action for years to come.

Steve Graeber is an accomplished studio saxophonist-turned-producer, known for his work with Chicago house legend Roy Davis Jr. as well as contributions to the records of Glenn Underground, Boo Williams, and many others. With vocalist Julia Prudence, Steve has uncovered “Filthiest Disco,” a deep and emotive cut that fuses the Chicago sound through its drum programming with the polished, soulful Cha Cha vibe. Funky bass, guitars, clav keys, and Steve’s trademark sax riffs make this a DJ’s choice.

Also part of the Cha Cha Project family is Zachary Mouton, an audio engineer who has been collaborating closely with Juan Hoerni at his Route 2 Recording Studios. While working with Juan on the Love On High album, the two recorded the funky, acid-jazz flavored track “Dirty”, which includes keyboard work from Scott Wozniak. This cut is dance floor fire, complete with a potent breakbeat, a jazzy stand-up bass line, catchy sax riffs, and a wild guitar breakdown from Zachary. Cha Cha comes correct!
