Andromo - Behind A Song (Viva Recordings)

Now based in Vancouver, Andromo earned his DJ stripes from his original home of El Salvador, relentlessly touring all over Latin America. HIs expansive, groovy tech-house sound has won over a multitude of dance floors over the years, and propelled his own Rainforest Music parties. “Behind a Song” is Andromo’s second single for Viva Recordings and signals a next level in his skillful production. Deep and mesmerizing, “Behind a Song” cascades with layers of emotive melodies, building in texture and intensity over a rhythmic pulse. This dreamy track will be the soundtrack to many sunrise parties over the summer. On the flip-side is “Door To Life,” a sparser affair featuring staccato chords, crisp percussion flourishes, and floating synth pads. Also suitable for late night floors, this cut sublimely complements “Behind a Song” to deliver another stellar house music pack from Viva Recordings.

D.Dahlinger - Exquisite Spirits (Cold Busted)

Cold Busted presents Exquisite Spirits, the latest from D.Dahlinger, a self-described “Northern California-bred, Japan-based dusty dollar/yen bin loop digger.” The follow-up to 2016’s debut album Brisk Temps (and his appearance with Pigeondust on Cold Busted’s Only On Vinyl 2 compilation), Exquisite Spirits is another brilliant exercise in tough, boom-bap beats at meditative tempos and engaging sample source genre-clashes. D.Dahlinger’s influences are wide-ranging, with Paul’s Boutique and Paid In Full hotly tipped alongside psych-rock and shoegaze, as well as the attitudes of west coast skateboarding culture thrown in. A relocation to Japan also created noticeable inspiration, giving the music a wandering flavor that often feels like solemn exploration.

A prime example of D.Dahlinger’s distinctive sound is the curiously titled “B,” which dreamily combines glistening harps, compressed vinyl noise, and lovely piano over a solid beat foundation. There’s also the pensive build of “Color Scheme 13,” with a gentle flute that deceptively calms the listener before the approaching sonic storm; the molasses intro of “Wind Back Up” which increases in tempo to reveal an intricate construction of samples and melody; and the deft trip hop thump of “Anyone’s Out There,” featuring layers of D.Dahlinger’s trademark hypnotic embellishments. Exquisite Spirits lives up its name, being both haunting and hard-to-ignore ... beats designed for the ages.

Robert Jan Meyer (Compost) – “Great downtempo exotica!”
Azaxx (Tru Thoughts) – “I like the atmosphere of all the tracks. Good project with big influences. Delicious hip hop beats and amazing MPC/Sample spirit. Bravo!”

Hober Mallow (Mighty Reel, Sydney) – “Full support here, beautiful set of tunes.”
Robert Lochmann (The Jazzmadass Radio Show) – “Another pristine downtempo release on Cold Busted. Summer Vibes!”
Aja Allsop (Ketch A Vibe Radio Show) – “Some excellent tracks infused with the new experiences of real life. It's music from the soul. My favorite track is "Too Many Delectable Things" simply because I am a jazzier!”
Floored Capri (Kane FM) – “Beautiful. Multilayered, snappily, crackly, poppy hip-hop goodness. Another dope release from Cold Busted.”

Anatol - Don't Go (forTunea)

The forTunea label jumps out with its latest vinyl release, the deep and techy “Don’t Go” from Vienna-based DJ/producer Anatol. Originally from Munich, the recently relocated Anatol keeps a busy DJ schedule throughout the city and beyond, and has previously released and remixed for the likes of Hungarian Hot Wax, Tulipe Records, and Plus Recordings.

“Don’t Go” wastes no time in getting right down to business, deftly mixing a snapping rhythm and a deliriously bouncing bass line, and adding loads of builds and strategically placed samples. The cut is laser-focused on the dance floor, sure to shake nightclub speakers into submission. On the b-side, Precious K — one half of Janefondas — and Secret Crunch boss Roman Rauch team up for a cool mid-tempo house remix. The ominous, laid-back vibe leads to mesmerizing synth arpeggiations that’ll send the after-hours crowd into a groovy dream state.

Anatol’s “Don’t Go” 12” will be limited to 300 copies.

Demarkus Lewis - Find A Way (Viva Recordings)

With a multi-page discography of releases dating back over 15 years, Demarkus Lewis is one of the hardest working men in house music, regularly adding to his diverse string of underground floor fillers. Mastering many house styles, Demarkus has released tech-house bombs on Nervous Records, soulful nuggets on Kingstreet Soundz, hypnotizing afro-rhythms on Slip n Slide, and everything in-between on his own Grin Music imprint. Demarkus now returns to Viva Recordings with “Find A Way,” his follow-up to 2016’s phenomenal “Self Is Steam.”

Find A Way” is a mesmerizing deep house cut built upon a shimmering motif of cut-up bell-like patterns over Demarkus’s punchy four-on-the-floor rhythm. Ethereal vocal snippets and echoed stabs playfully enter and exit the track, taking the listener on an evocative ride. Demarkus also provides an Alt-Broken Mix which transforms the straight rhythm into a subtle breakbeat and adds a few more melodic elements. Rounding out the single is the spacious bonus track “Downside Up.” Combing an old school Detroit-sensibility through Demarkus Lewis’s production prowess, the cut deftly mashes winding pads, bouncing snare fills, and splashes of truncated vocals into a sly house music jewel.

Giom (Supremus Records) – “The Broken mix is for me, very nice.”
Michael Serafini (Gramaphone Records / Smart Bar) – “Nice work Demarkus! Both versions of Find A Way are solid.”
Tyree Cooper (Chicago Vinyl Records) – “I’m feelin’ this EP. You can’t go wrong with Demarkus.”

Greg Dowling (Fish Go Deep) – “I’ve been playing and supporting Demarkus music for years. Love this one, real deep house vibes.”
Raoul Lambert (We Play House Recordings) – “This has a nice Atjazz vibe to it. Can’t make up my mind as to which mix I prefer, both are equally good.”
SimonG (Volcano Radio) – “Lush, sultry sounds from a master.”
DJ Osric (Black and Blue Show, Perth) – “Smokin’ hot, and well worth the wait.”
