Prins Oblonsky - Dreams On Hold (Beatservice Records)

Prins Oblonsky (AKA Tobias Fredø), is an Oslo-based composer and producer. He got his musical start studying the trombone and the guitar. Then he bought his first sampler at 18 and, inspired by artists like J Dilla and 9th Wonder, he began to make hip-hop beats and earned his chops by participating in beat battles on the Stones Throw forum. Over the years, Tobias developed a love and fascination for analogue sounds and synthesizers, obsessing over them in all his spare time. At 23, he started working with music and soundscapes for short-films, and his sound move in a more electronic, house music direction, inspired by artists like Floating Points, Four Tet, Rival Consoles, and fellow Norwegian Bjørn Torske.

The Dreams On Hold EP is Prins Oblonsky ’s debut on the Beatservice label, and it packs a warm punch. The title track launches the EP with an understated four-on-the-floor rhythm and a sparkling, distant arpeggiation. The feeling is indeed dream-like, energetic in tempo but soothing in tone. “Dancing On Graves” follows, presenting mesmerizing lo-fi beats while short pad bursts and echoed synth melodies play in the sonic field. Subtle techno elements characterize “Østerdalen,” while the funkiest drum sequence on the EP drives the deepness into forward motion. The EP closes with the introspective “A Farewell To Arms,” which ebbs and flows mistily around its warm sustained pad and beguiling synth motif. This is deep house for dreamers.

Third Attempt - On Tonight (Beatservice Records)

Third Attempt is Torje Fagertun Spilde, a 20 year old artist and DJ originally from Asker, just outside of Oslo. Now established in Tromsø , Norway, he is one of the young forces in the rising new generation of electronic producers from the birthplace of the Northern Disco Groove.

Third Attempt has a distinct and uplifting flavor, firmly planted in the smoother areas of deep house. His influences range from jazz to ambient, trip hop to classic house. Third Attempt’s Beatservice single, “Shoreline,” accumulated numerous accolades and tens of thousands of plays on various streaming platforms.

This new Beatservice double A-side single opens with “On Tonight” which takes old school sounds and transports them to modern club sets. A funky bass bounce is complemented with squelchy synth lines and an atmospheric, submerged breakdown section. It’s all driven by an insistent rhythm track to keep the floor in motion. “Loading Music” introduces a shuffling breakbeat that anchors jazzy electric piano chords and more analog synth fun. The result is dreamy but propulsive, potentially inspiring introspective dance floor moments. Another winning single from Third Attempt!

Pat Lok & Party Pupils - From The Back feat. Dances With White Girls (Kitsune Musique)

Vancouver’s gifted producer Pat Lok teams up with future-funk duo Party Pupils (MAX + RyanEXO) on “From The Back” (feat. Dances With White Girls): an explosive banger and danceable anthem featured on this month’s co-headline tour.

Vancouver’s Pat Lok has become a staple in the playlists of tastemakers and clubs worldwide — as the sole Canadian artist on legendary French label Kitsuné Musique and the first act signed to Pete Tong’s new PTSongs. With a debut album already reaching over 4M streams across platforms and official remixes for Galantis or SG Lewis, this talented producer is ready to announce his upcoming EP to be released on Kitsuné Musique.

Party Pupils formed when MAX following a hot string of hits got together with RyanEXOE in 2016 to form Party Pupils as a party-starting, future-funk dance duo.

Says Pat: “I had been following PP on Twitter and saw they were talking about an A-Ha remix, so I reached out and sent them some piano ideas for it and that was how we connected.” The adventure continued backstage, at the Electric Forest festival in Michigan, where both Pat Lok and Party Pupils were performing. That’s where it hit it off. “They're based in LA so I went into the studio with Ryan one day and started playing out these chords, he put down some drums and very quickly we had a club jam! It very much captures the vibe and energy of our projects together.”

All this energy is embodied in this exclusive collaboration: “From the Back” (feat. Dances With White Girls). “I’ve been playing the demos out in in Asia and the US and the response has been great,” says Pat. “Getting Dances on the final version was the cherry on top."

This funky banger will definitely be the danceable anthem of their co-headline tour, crossing the United States this month.

Andy Compton & Rogiérs - Feel Free (South African Remixes) [Viva Recordings]

Andy Compton and Rogiérs (pronounced Ro-ghe-ay) are back on Viva Recordings, returning with “Feel Free (South African Remixes)”. Andy first visited Viva in 2000 with The Rurals and his Farmyard Flavours singles and full length album, and “Feel Free” shows the Peng label head, prolific producer, and busy globe-trotting DJ still residing in the classiest of deep house digs. Miz-Dee kicks off this remix pack with a flowing rendition that sooths the soul with it’s meandering piano and floaty organ. Lelanga takes us on a journey reminiscent of Mr. Fingers with lush strings and keys, dubbing out the guitar and adding some spacious synth sounds. Both a remix and an instrumental remix by Lelanga are included in this pack. Once again, Andy and Co. inspire the dreamiest of dancefloor visions.
