Juan Hoerni - Unlimited Capacities (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Los Angeles house music maestro Juan Hoerni strides into 2019 with a terrific new single for his Cha Cha Project Recordings imprint, “Unlimited Capacities.” The original is a bonafide groover, with sterling production and disco elements accompanying spare jazz-infused instrumentation. Sexy hints of vocals pepper the track as Scott Wozniak provides top notch keyboard work. It’s the sound of a sleek night ride through club land, no doubt.

Juan continues his history of legendary collaborations by enlisting none other than DJ Spinna on the remix. Spinna applies his down-and-dirty dance floor approach, bringing out some of the subtle Italo influences within the disco thump. An insistent rhythm is propelled by swirling organ, a bouncing bass line, and clav-like key stabs. This one’s blazing hot, and just in time for summer sessions.

Craig Stewart (Montana & Stewart) – “Superb, we love it!”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite) – “Wow! Can’t pick a favorite here just yet. Both mixes are fantastic.”
DJ Harri (Sub Club) – “Digging these. Will play and support.”

Ricky Inch (Ossom Records) – “Awesome stuff. Scott is off the hook on keys as usual.”
Edground (Brazilian Soul Crew) – “What an amazing release. Loving both mixes, they are perfect for my DJ sets.”

Onium & Ivan Torres - Dub Excursions (Harmonious Discord)

As winter lingers longer than expected, waves of indecisive weather permeate the planet. The Harmonious Discord camp is picking up on deep connotations distilled in dreary afternoons. It’s a perfect time to revisit some of the label’s dub-minded artists with a special collaboration called Dub Excursions. Dub Excursions features label familiar Onium as well as two rising stars in the expansive dub techno arena, Ivan Torres and James Kelley.

Onium’s “Intentions” is a breathing invitation to rise. Artifacts of ambient works and eco-botanal shades temper organic dub influences with expressive synthesizer design. Cascading momentum drives this pensive powerhouse to a floaty array of melodic bliss. Next, “Perceptions” compliments “Intentions” as that selection set the path and “Perceptions” moves things deeper. The soundscape is filled with vinyl remnants and complex pads, but the other elements bring a more aggressive techno flavor to the later sections.

Dub 7,” the EP’s first cut from Ivan Torres, cracks a smile in this rather serious project. It begins with evolving pads and a muted, dusty drum machine. The cut starts to open up in the middle with brushes of melodic leads that dance in-between the lush soundscapes. Its successor “Dub 8” is a good order sharper. Driving interstellar melodies and tense bass deliver on the dance-floor presence of Ivan’s contribution. Expect more from Ivan to come on Harmonious Discord.

On the remix tip, longtime Dallas-based sleeper sensation James Kelley (Subspec/Momentum League) drives the subtle but tense properties of “Intentions” into a skin-crawling warehouse techno piece. The once calming breaths now breed uncertainty as James layers on heady atmospheres. James gives us a crippling bass-bin workout for the after hours.

Nice Warren (The Soundgarden) – “A great EP!”
Anthony Pappa (Red Light District) – “Cool EP. I love ‘Intentions’. Some nice tracks that will be used.”
Greg Gow (Transmat) – “Love this EP. Nice and moody and deep.”
Craig Steward (DCSTrax) – “Stunning deepness here. Absolutely superb, great work!”
Haris Custovic (Laus Music) – “This is super!”
Jean Jérome (Kut ‘N’ Paste) – “Lovely deep vibes, will play.”
Taigo Onez (Bang Le’ Dex) – “James Kelley comes correct with the righteousness. Great tracks by Ivan Torres.”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Breathtaking stuff here. Love it.”
Sharlese (KEXP) – “Nice chill vibe sounds.”
juSt b (Melodic Deep) – “Great collection! I love ‘Intentions’ – such warm, inviting & dreamy vibes with such a fierce remix!”

D.J Genius 313 - Like That! (dotdotdot records)

A native son of Detroit, D.J Genius 313 (born: Sidney Jordan), has had a musical career spanning decades across several genres of music.

Attending high school with Detroit’s own Eddie ‘Flashin’ Fowlkes, his love for electronic dance music was forged early on as a member of Twins, a social club crew who threw huge parties in the early ‘80s. They were inspired by the European new wave music and progressive fashion seen in UK magazines like The Face and iD. This was then interpreted by late night Detroit FM radio shows such as the Midnight Funk Association, hosted by legendary radio host The Electrifying Mojo.

Jordan was featured as part of the famous Hot Mix Crew on Detroit’s WGPR and later ended up living in the same building as Juan Atkins, helping the techno originator put his studio together. Juan later returned the favor by critiquing Sidney’s first techno tracks.

Come take an intergalactic ride with “Like That!” This potent cut — and its pared-down dub — feature classic-sounding elements and a chunky groove that undeniably come out of the Detroit-Chicago house music axis. Proper vibes. It’s part of a long line of releases bearing the name of Sidney Jordan/D.J Genius 313 — there’s a treasure trove of music waiting to be sprung onto the dance floor.

Tyler Stadius (Deepen) – “Cool dub. Something sort of creepy and dark for the late nights.”
Alien Tom (Native Alien) – “Wicked house. Nice one.”
Lee Guthrie (Click Therapy) – “Nice, I like both mixes.”
Eric Davenport (Guesthouse) – “Cool Groover. Crowd pleaser.”
Mozaic (As You Like It) – “Great chunky groove.”
DJ P-Rez (Not So Fast Records) – “I’m diggin’ this. I’ll play it.”
George J.J. Flores (Sol Sundaze) – “Really like this dub!”
Anthony Pappa (Red Light District) – “Both mixes are nice.”
Jean Jérome (Kut ‘N’ Paste) – “Nice old school vibes!”
Kosta (Vibe FM) – “I’m down with this Detroit!”

Linnea Dale & Of Norway - Pets (Beatservice Records)

Oslo-based duo Of Norway — comprised of Vegard Wolf Dyvik and Christian Steenstrup — have made a name for themselves through countless DJ and live gigs and a healthy discography on the likes of Connaisseur Recordings and Darkroom Dubs. And Linnea Dale is a rising Norwegian singer, known as a popular contestant on Idol Norway before contributing to the international success of Donkeyboy's debut album and releasing solo albums on Warner Music Norway and Aftertouch Records.

Linnea Dale and Of Norway have a long history of collaboration. Linnea sang on both Of Norway albums and on various other tracks. Of Norway, in return, have remixed tracks from Linnea Dale's albums. The Pets album, released with Beatservice Records, is a compilation of sorts — a pet-project, if you will — collecting their joint efforts on one album. It spotlights the magical combination of Linnea Dale's dark and sensual voice and Of Norway's electro backbeat. The two tracks in this promo are exclusive to the compilation: “War With Yourself” features cool breakbeats and dramatic, bassy synths under Linnea’s expressive voice. And “Heart & Soul” is indeed a cover of the classic Joy Division song, respectfully translated into a dreamy electronic interpretation and perfect for those special end-of-set moments. Intimate and otherworldly, these cuts are ready to mesmerize fortunate listeners.

Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister) – “Both tracks are great!”
Severino (HorseMeatDisco) – “Love these electro vibes.”
Afrika Islam AKA Charlie Funk (Zulu Nation) – “Good new electro funk.”
Quincy Jointz (Timewarp Music Radio Show) – “I dig the beat of ‘War with Yourself’.”
Kid Loco (Flor) – “Well done, great tracks.”
Hober Mallow (Mighty Reel on 107.3, Sydney) – “Love the spooky electro vibe of War With Yourself.”
Toomy Disco (Kitsune) – “Super like! Full support.”
Crate Invader (Point Blank FM, London) – “I’m feeling it!”
Andy Wilson (Ibiza Sonica FM) – “Heart & Soul – A tasteful version of the Joy Division classic.”
MadameFLY (mmRadio) – “Whoa. This is the sound I’ve been craving without even knowing it.”
