Kohib - Take One (Beatservice Records)

Kohib is back in Beatservice action, joining forces with vocalist Karoline Stensland on the delightfully deviant "Take One."

Since releasing last year's mesmerizing "Today's Tales Of Tomorrow," Øivind Sjøvoll took a short break from his Kohib project to deliver some heavy dancefloor textures under his Ransel alter ego. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait too long for Kohib's return, and he picked up where he left off with a typically refined slice of subterranean immersion.

Fans of Sjøvoll's back catalog will know to expect the unexpected with each evolving release, and, true to form, the producer, DJ, and party promoter keeps audiences on their collective toes with a distinctly floor-focused turn.

"Take One" sees crunching house drums power aberrant bass and detuned synth leads as brooding acid and tension-building strings add to the nocturnal mood. Karoline Stensland pitches in with a stirring vocal performance, flitting between snarling spoken word to searing soul as verse transitions into chorus.

Driving, elegantly sinister, and steeped in soul, this is certified dancefloor fire from Kohib.

Duwayne Motley - Saturday Night (Viva Recordings)

Duwayne Motley's house music bona fides have few equals. Over the years, the prolific Charleston-based DJ and producer created exceptional sounds for the likes of Salted, King Street Sounds, Glasgow Underground, and quite a few more. "Come Get Me," Duwayne's 2009 release on Nervous Records upped the ante, receiving much acclaim and being selected for Nervous Records' best of compilation, Nervous House 20, mixed by CJ Mackintosh. Viva Recordings was among those who took notice and released Duwayne Motley's collaboration with Zandrina, "Gave Up On Love," in 2021.

Now Duwayne returns to Viva for an exhilarating house music statement, "Saturday Night." A chunky four-on-the-floor club bounce leads to sparkling layers of keys, strings, and staccato plucks as an uplifting vocal, once again from Zandrina, praises the virtues of Saturday night. This one is pure disco dynamite, beaming energy straight to the dancefloor in the form of percussive laser fills. Duwayne has also handily provided a Dub that takes the groove into deeper realms, looping and filtering the main keys while building the other elements smoothly on top. This one's a definite future staple for weekend peak time.

Andre Stepanian - Take Flight (Friskybeat Records)

Friskybeat Records is excited to showcase Andre Stepanian's latest single, “Take Flight.” Based in Vancouver, Andre is a talented composer who has created a polished, jazzed-up dance groove. The foundation of this song is stylish guitar phrases and melodies, which are performed with smooth, modern effects. The upbeat feel is created by the rhythmic bounce, funky bass, syncopated chords, and arpeggiated synths, resulting in an elegant composition that transports the listener to a special destination.

DJ and producer Luis Machuca has provided a remix of Andre's track. He has stripped down the composition and rebuilt it with fresh bass and synth lines, along with plush new chords. The remaining guitars have been sampled and enriched with lengthy reverbs and delays, expanding time and space. This version has a deeper house feel, with a pumping kick drum, layered hi-hats, and frisky Latin percussion rhythms that are sure to send the dance floor into late-night bliss.

Takamasa Owaki (Cactus Experience) – “Dope! Great grooves and guitar.”
KJ (Integrity Records) – “Class. Style. Dope release.”
DJ Harri (Subclub) – “I’m liking both mixes. Will play and support.”
Miguel Garji (Deepfustion Radio Show) – “2 great tracks here. Super support.”
