Hannah Holland - Come Correct EP (Get Up Recordings)

Next up from Get Up Recordings is the Come Correct EP from UK heavy-hitter Hannah Holland. The package includes two original tracks and remixes of the title track from Christy Love, Lady Blacktronika, and Mystic Bill.

Hannah Holland is a DJ, producer, and label boss. Her career began ten years ago with legendary residencies at seminal London clubs Trailer Trash, Batty Bass, and Dalston Superstore and regularly appears at Fabric London, Dance Tunnel, Ministry of Sound and Bugged Out! She has toured the world with her unique bass-heavy sound and has headlined with such luminaries as Steffi, Luke Solomon, Rodhad, Green Velvet, Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Jennifer Cardini, Chloe, and Josh Caffé. Her distinct productions, which fuse many styles into hybrids of house, techno, and bass, can be heard alongside an impressive roster of talent on her labels Batty Bass and Native City. In addition to remixes for The Knife, DJ Hell, and O Children, she has original releases on Nervous Records and Classic Music Co. One can also catch her delving deep on her monthly NTS radio show. “Come Correct” exemplifies what she does best as a DJ and producer, which is thinking of the dance floor as a runway. Rhythmic snares and percussion set to a back drop of driving bass lines sprinkled with diva one-liner vocals are a recipe for dance. The B-side, “Noir Gate”, is deep, dark bass-driven audio ecstasy.

In addition to co-owning Get Up Recordings, Christy Love is also a dynamic DJ and producer. She is a sought-after DJ in NYC, largely because of her distinct sets comprising of a clever mixture of classic and modern house, bursting with driving beats and funky bass lines. In 2007, Christy and label partner W. Jeremy (under the moniker House of Stank) had their first two tracks released on DJ Pierre’s label, Afro Acid Digital, and later released “Make U Jack” and “Get Up, Yeah!” on Dust Traxx Chicago. In 2013, Christy ventured into solo territory with “I’m Goin’ Under” featuring Scissor Sisters front-woman Ana Matronic followed by “Paradise”, “Internal Waves”, and “Flashback”, all for Get Up Recordings. She has remixed for Hannah Holland, JD Samson & Men, Mikey V, Gina Breeze, and Nita Aviance of The Carry Nation. Her remix of “Come Correct” is a deep house version with beautifully orchestrated keys and a punchy bass line.

Lady Blacktronika got her start in 1997 doing vocals for San Jose based DJ/producer Mattski. In 2006 she tried her hand at production and shortly thereafter released her first EP on Spanish house label Deep Explorer. Since then she has amassed an extensive discography which includes releases on her own imprints Sound Black Recordings and Sound Kemystry. Her sound is heavily influenced by the classic elements of old school Chicago and Detroit house. She recently concluded a world tour that included Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, and Love Deep in London, Honey Soundsystem in San Francisco, CubScout and Juicy in L.A., Medellin, Columbia, as well as an Acid Crew event at the Breakfast Club in Tel-Aviv. Her remix of “Come Correct” is gritty, grimy, tech goodness.

Mystic Bill is a true preacher of the ‘traditional’ Chicago/Detroit house and techno sound. Bill’s introduction to the dance music scene began during his teen years growing up in Miami. It wasn’t until Bill landed a job at Flamingo Record Pool, which was ran by Bill Kelly (WMC fame) and Richard McVay, that he discovered house music. When house and acid promos from Chicago started arriving, he felt so in tune with what was happening in Chicago that he needed to be there. After frequent visits, he made the move, and shortly thereafter was spinning at parties around the city. His first residency was in the Boiler Room at the Shelter with Johnny Fiasco, and later places like The Vault with Derrick Carter and Mark Farina and Normandy’s with Ralphie Rosario. His first music production was a remix of Kay Ladrae’s Lack of Love on Demand Records. Earlier production work can be found on labels such as Trax Records, Relief, Club House, and Swing Street. Here, Bill gives two acid mixes of Hannah’s track, a pumping jam and a stripped-down dub, both full of pure musical delight.

Christy Love - Euphoria EP (Get Up Recordings)

Next up from Get Up Recordings is the Euphoria EP from label owner Christy Love. The package includes two original tracks and a remix of the title track by fellow NYC DJ / producer Michael Magnan.

Christy Love has been immersed in the house music scene for more than two decades and is one of the most sought-after DJs in NYC because she consistently destroys dance floors all over the city and beyond. Her distinct sets are comprised of a clever mixture of classic and modern house bursting with driving tech beats and funky bass lines … she plays a pivotal role in defining the current underground sound of New York. This DJ prowess, combined with her individual production work – in addition to her work as House of Stank with long-time collaborator W. Jeremy and the success of their label Get Up Recordings – has transformed Christy into a house music triple threat. “Euphoria” is a funky tech-house groove, filled with Christy’s signature driving drums, a deep and dark bass line, dubbed-out vocal cuts, and reflective key stabs that build into a classic hypnotic rhythm.

Remix duties come courtesy of fellow NYC DJ and producer Michael Magnan. If you live in New York City and dwell amongst the downtown music / fashion scene, chances are you’ve heard of Michael. This artist has been turning out parties for what seems like ages and infusing hit songs with his signature brand of musical swag. He is also one-half of the DJ / production duo Fatherhood along with Physical Therapy. His take on “Euphoria” features runway-inspired sub bass driven beats, oozing with layered percussion.

The second original track is the melodic and trippy “Raki”, a bass and percussion-heavy house jam with minimal musical elements that packs a powerful dance floor punch. Let it take you on a journey.

Christy Love - Flashback (Get Up Recordings)

ACID is in the house at Get Up Recordings and it comes in the form of “Flashback”, the latest offering from label owner Christy Love. This incredible package includes the fiery original and remixes coming from NYC’s Eli Escobar and London’s Local Group.

Christy Love has been immersed in the house music scene for more than two decades and is one of the most sought-after DJs in NYC because she consistently destroys dance floors all over the city and beyond. Her distinct sets comprise of a clever mixture of classic and modern house bursting with driving tech beats and funky bass lines; she plays a pivotal role in defining the current underground sound of New York. This DJ prowess, combined with her individual production work, in addition to her work as House of Stank with long-time collaborator W. Jeremy and the success of their label Get Up Recordings, has transformed Christy into a house music triple threat. “Flashback” is a tech acid psychedelic groove, filled with driving drums and a smooth bass line that build into a classic hypnotic rhythm.

First up on remix duties is fellow NYC DJ and producer Eli Escobar. This house and disco evangelist has been a familiar face on the city’s scene for the last two decades. Whether tearing it up at clubs across the capital or throwing down super-charged disco bombs on labels like Nervous and Strictly Rhythm, Escobar rarely steps out of his four-four beat. As one third of the Tiki Disco parties in Bushwick, as well as running his own Night People label, Escobar has been putting his own twist on the city’s house and disco soundtrack, joining the dots between yesterday’s golden era classics and today’s club anthems. Eli’s remix takes the original to a place that's almost reminiscent of early '90s rave, but keeps things real tight. Big drums, echoing hits, and a big evolving bass line keep this mix moving. A super sweet surprise for the dance floor.

The second remix of “Flashback” comes courtesy of London’s Local Group (AKA Joe Roberts and Louis Major) who formed in an East London basement while reading a book about the stars. Former DJ Mag editor Joe Roberts has been DJ'ing since the turn of the millennium, playing alongside everyone from Fatboy Slim in the Brazilian rainforest to the likes of Duke Dumont and Night Slugs. He is currently a resident at White Leather Viper Club at Dalston Superstore and Jim Warboy’s roving techno rave party, Sabojaq. Louis Major works as a sound engineer and is part of the liquid drum and bass trio Broken Drum, who have released on labels such as Sheer Velocity and Subfuzion. Their I Gotta Big Kick name for the remix is undoubtedly what it is … a hard house kick coupled with stabs of acid, spacey vocals, and splashes of breakbeat drums make this mix an added highlight to an already illuminating release.

Louis Osbourne - "The original is ace!"
Lupe Fuentes (Inhouse Records) - "The Eli Escobar remix is dope."
Chris Fortier (Fade) - "Both remixes on here are good."
Nick Catchdubs (Fool's Gold) - "Eli Escobar is always on point."
Linas Fresh Tee (Dubinsky / Drumpoet Community) - "Dance floor bangers!"
Dr. Motte (PRAXXIZ) - "Loving the Local Group remix!"
Iain Rejekt (The Rejekts / Sankeys) - "Eli Escobar's mix is cracking! Great work."
Golf Clap - "The Local Group remix is tight."
Leri Ahel (Mutant Disco Radio Show) - "That Eli Escobar remix is superb!"
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) - "Massive, heavy duty gear … love it."
DJ Tronic (Dancefloor Mayhem) - "A hot slice of acid house goodness."

DJ Dickey Doo - Cutting Up (feat. DJ Lina) (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings’ second release of 2016 is “Cutting Up (feat. DJ Lina)” from DJ Dickey Doo. This release is jam packed with remixes from Christy Love, Rennie Foster, and SOLLORS.

Over the last two decades, DJ Dickey Doo has established an international reputation, from headlining the Castro Street Fair in San Francisco, to Wigstock in New York, to Horse Meat Disco in his home base of Berlin, and has played with legends such as Derrick Carter, Chez Damier, and Little Louie Vega. On the production front, he released his first solo album Nocturnal Adventures under the moniker DixMix in 2004 and has collaborated with artists including Eddie Amador, Larry Tee, Tyler Stadius, and even punk veterans S.N.F.U., and remixed R.E.M, Peaches, and Light Asylum. “Cutting Up” is a '90s strut dance floor pounder; big drums, big keys, and a big bass line really pump this track. The first version, the Dickey & Snax Original Mix, has additional golden touches from producer Snax and features NYC and Fire Island’s legendary DJ Lina, who adds her sultry vocals to the track. The second version, The Rhythm Mix, is a flowing dub of the original.

Get Up Recordings label co-owner Christy Love lends her skillful hand in the remix department. Ms. Love is a NYC DJ, producer, and, of course, label owner. She has DJ’ed alongside legends such as Derrick Carter, Cajmere, DJ Pierre, and DJ Heather. She also has a string of underground original hits on her own label, the last being “Internal Waves”, as well as remixes for a grip of artists. Her take on Dickey’s track cleverly pieces together a bit of the original and The Rhythm Mix versions and rhythmically moves them along making it a thumping dance floor filler.

The next remix is from Rennie Foster, who hails from Canada and has an impressive and prolific resume, ranging from being one of the Top 50 DJs in Japan to having releases on Transmat, F-Communications, and Rebirth. Rennie’s musical background started long ago as an early pioneer of the hip-hop / B-Boy movement in Western Canada. From there he moved to Tokyo where he has played clubs such as Womb, Yellow, and ageHa. In addition to running his own labels, RF and RF Trax, he has has remixed artists such as Swayzak, Altern-8, DJ Bone, Alain Ho, Deepchild, John Beltran, Juan Atkins, Orlando Voorn, DJ 3000/UR, and has been remixed by a who's who of house and techno music such as James Zabiela, Claude Young, Rodriguez Jr./Youngsters, G-Pal, Gabriel and Dresden, etc. He also had a hit in 2011 with "Savior" featuring the late Detroit legend Aaron Carl on vocals. His musical knowledge comes to life in his remix of Dickey Doo’s track, which is bathed in a lovely acid groove, making it killer for the underground dance floor peak hour.

The final remix comes from SOLLORS, who is one of the hardest working DJs to come out of Vancouver. Influenced by the '90s rave scene in his teen years, SOLLORS picked up and traveled the globe, which only added to the cultivation of his sound. His first EP, Nerve on Prison Entertainment, made noise on Beatport’s NuDisco chart, reaching the 6th spot. He also has forthcoming releases on Toolroom, Nervous, Caballeros, and Jungle Funk Recordings. His remix of “Cutting Up” is a mesmerizing filter house jam for all.

Larry Tee - "Hot track alert!"
Eddie Amador - "I love it … especially that horn in the original."
DJ Heather - "I'm digging the doo!"
Bass Control (Ultra / Sirius XM) - "A well-rounded set of remixes to this unique house track."
Chris Fortier (Fade) - "Acid!"
Dr. Motte (PRAXXIZ) - "A great acid house vibe … I will play and support."

Bogdan Taran (Dance Box) - "I like that light acid feel of Rennie Foster's version."
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) - "Damn, this is serious stuff! Every mix is wonderful but The Rhythm Mix and Rennie Foster's cut really stand out. Wicked."
