Christy Love - Flashback (Get Up Recordings)

ACID is in the house at Get Up Recordings and it comes in the form of “Flashback”, the latest offering from label owner Christy Love. This incredible package includes the fiery original and remixes coming from NYC’s Eli Escobar and London’s Local Group.

Christy Love has been immersed in the house music scene for more than two decades and is one of the most sought-after DJs in NYC because she consistently destroys dance floors all over the city and beyond. Her distinct sets comprise of a clever mixture of classic and modern house bursting with driving tech beats and funky bass lines; she plays a pivotal role in defining the current underground sound of New York. This DJ prowess, combined with her individual production work, in addition to her work as House of Stank with long-time collaborator W. Jeremy and the success of their label Get Up Recordings, has transformed Christy into a house music triple threat. “Flashback” is a tech acid psychedelic groove, filled with driving drums and a smooth bass line that build into a classic hypnotic rhythm.

First up on remix duties is fellow NYC DJ and producer Eli Escobar. This house and disco evangelist has been a familiar face on the city’s scene for the last two decades. Whether tearing it up at clubs across the capital or throwing down super-charged disco bombs on labels like Nervous and Strictly Rhythm, Escobar rarely steps out of his four-four beat. As one third of the Tiki Disco parties in Bushwick, as well as running his own Night People label, Escobar has been putting his own twist on the city’s house and disco soundtrack, joining the dots between yesterday’s golden era classics and today’s club anthems. Eli’s remix takes the original to a place that's almost reminiscent of early '90s rave, but keeps things real tight. Big drums, echoing hits, and a big evolving bass line keep this mix moving. A super sweet surprise for the dance floor.

The second remix of “Flashback” comes courtesy of London’s Local Group (AKA Joe Roberts and Louis Major) who formed in an East London basement while reading a book about the stars. Former DJ Mag editor Joe Roberts has been DJ'ing since the turn of the millennium, playing alongside everyone from Fatboy Slim in the Brazilian rainforest to the likes of Duke Dumont and Night Slugs. He is currently a resident at White Leather Viper Club at Dalston Superstore and Jim Warboy’s roving techno rave party, Sabojaq. Louis Major works as a sound engineer and is part of the liquid drum and bass trio Broken Drum, who have released on labels such as Sheer Velocity and Subfuzion. Their I Gotta Big Kick name for the remix is undoubtedly what it is … a hard house kick coupled with stabs of acid, spacey vocals, and splashes of breakbeat drums make this mix an added highlight to an already illuminating release.

Ursula 1000 - Blast Off! (feat. Lady Bunny) (Insect Queen Music)

"Blast Off!" is the third single taken from Ursula 1000's fab new album Voyeur. Featuring the legendary New York City drag queen Lady Bunny, this energetic disco monster sounds like Sylvester and Patrick Cowley having with New Order in outer space. As with any good dance floor focused single, there's a bevy of hot shot remixes on hand for a variety of discerning DJs. Vanilla Ace takes "Blast Off!" to peak time G-house territory while Eli Escobar dubs out some serious deep garage heat. Endless Summer, the new collaboration of Sleazy McQueen and Obas, go dark and hypnotic with their Arp-driven, basement-targeted version. Brooklyn's KLM also dips into garage terrain but with some heavy duty bass rolls and pitched down vocals. Finally, Manotti da Vinci grabs "Blast Off! and maxes it out with his over-the-top electro house take. Indeed, these are some perfect tracks for breaking through the atmosphere.

Brooklyn is Burning - Percolatin' (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings continues a steady string of releases with “Percolatin’” from the New York City based collective Brooklyn is Burning (Nita Aviance and Adam Joseph). Nita Aviance is one of the most sought after DJs in the NYC underground club scene and has been creating a buzz with his production work, especially his remixes for Scissor Sisters and Beyonce. He is also currently one half of DJ/production duo The Carry Nation. Adam Joseph is a prolific producer, songwriter, and vocalist. He was featured on super-producer Bob Sinclar’s album Born in 69 with “The Way I Feel.” “Percolatin’” is a bumping dance track reminiscent of the '90s house scene. With its melodic keys, catchy vocal hook and infectious bass line, it is sure to become a future house classic. The release features remixes from fellow NYC DJ/producers Eli Escobar and Michael Magnan.

Eli Escobar is the quintessential New York City DJ. Over the past ten years he has built a reputation around his parties, emerging as one of the most talented DJs in the NY dance scene. His talent as a remixer is reflected in the wide range of artists who have sought him out to turn their songs into something specifically his own. The list boasts of work for Diplo, M.I.A., Britney Spears, Chromeo, Holy Ghost!, Pase Rock, and Amanda Blank. His remix for “Percolatin’” gets his signature acid treatment accompanied by some dark funky house beats and jackin’ vocals.

DJ/producer Michael Magnan dwells amongst the downtown music and fashion scene which inspires his creativity, which in-turn inspires others. Magnan fuses art, music. and fashion together on his popular blog Wickephobica and with his involvement in the House of Ladosha collective. He is also one half of the DJ/production duo Fatherhood along with Physical Therapy. His remix of “Percolatin’” is very reflective of his DJ style: dreamy runway.

Eli Escobar - Body EP (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings is back once again, this time with a double A-side release from fellow NYC DJ/producer Eli Escobar. Eli has surfaced as one of the most exciting talents on the dance music scene. Well-known for his remixes of artists like Diplo, M.I.A., Chromeo, and Nacho Lovers, he also has original releases on Nurvous Records, Plant Music, and Wurst. Eli manages to combine all of his musical influences – New York disco, ’80s hip-hop, and new wave – into flawless productions that feed the imagination, touch the heart, and move the feet. The Body EP features two original tracks and two house remixes for “Anotha Luv” coming from NYC’s House of Stank and Chicago’s Alinka.

The EP kicks off with the ’80s acid house inspired track “Anotha Luv”, jam-packed with diva vocals and classic melodic synth pads. Chicago DJ/producer Alinka, known for her highly-regarded collaborations with fellow Chicagoan Shaun J. Wright, takes a solo swing at “Anotha Luv” and knocks it out of the park with an early Chicago acid house remix. NYC production team House of Stank (DJs Christy Love and W. Jeremy) give “Anotha Luv” the NY house treatment, complete with stacked key hits and a thumping bass line.

The EP closes out with “Body.” With its hypnotic keys and building acid line, the track sounds like it came straight out of a vault of early ’90s NY house classics.

Another fantastic package from Get Up Recordings, this EP is perfect for the classic house heads.
