Millitone - Devotion (Soul Town Records)

Soulful house music has a huge, growing scene in South Africa. Recognizing this, New York’s Soul Town Records is pleased to be introducing Devotion, the debut album from South African deep house producer Millitone. The Galeshewe townsman’s love for house music was born as an escape from his daily struggles. In anticipation of the album a sampler of three songs has been prepped. “Taking Me Higher,” “Do Your Thang,” and “Come Closer,” each feature soulful vocalists over groove-filled, moving blends of African and deep house elements.

Ivan Fywus, a talented South African vocalist most prominently featured on the album, is joined by John Palm for a soulful duet of gospel proportions on “Taking Me Higher.” The backing sounds are made up of well placed hand percussion, sweet strings, and pulsing pads with cutting synth squeals as the lead in more tense moments. “Do Your Thang” featuring Leggo is a call to the dance floor with claps propelling the way over chugging stabs and some playful give-and-take sub interactions. NYC’s Italian vocalist import Georgia Cee is no stranger to house music collaborations, having worked with some of the best. She really shines with “Come Closer,” a stripped back drum track with sparse, seductive pads and a sultry horn section.

With soulful house music like this there’s really not much more to be said, all that’s left is for it to be felt. Millitone’s release on Soul Town Records is sure to move people in this way.

Georgia Cee - Soul World EP (Soul Town Records)

Italian vocalist Georgia Cee, now based in New York City, has had a busy history in house music thus far, collaborating on recordings with the likes of Tony Humphries, Jelly Bean Benitez, Alan Russell, Haldo, and Luis Radio. Timmy “The Maestro” Regisford, legendary Shelter DJ, discovered Georgia in Italy and became a sort of mentor to her, collaborating on several productions. Timmy then introduced Georgia Cee to Quentin Harris which led to her lead vocals on the tracks “So Bad” and “Don’t U Worry.”

In 2012 Georgia Cee began a fruitful collaboration with young house music producer Chris IDH and they started work on her upcoming Soul World album. Bravely following in the footsteps of Georgia’s previous collaborators, Chris IDH’s production style draws on elements of jazz, latin music, deep house, and soul, inspired by legendary producers like Little Louie Vega, Dennis Ferrer, and Joe Claussell. On the newly launched Soul Town Records, this four song EP reveals the impressive first results of this pairing. Taken from the upcoming album, the tracks “I Am Feelin’ U,” “Fallin’ Down,” “I Am In Love,” and “Disrespectful” show an evolution and independence in Georgia Cee’s style that encompasses smooth, percussive deep house with soulful instrumentation and an evocative after-hours vibe. Fans of classic NYC weeklies like Shelter and Body & Soul rejoice … Georgia Cee’s Soul World EP fits right in.

Haldo feat. Georgia Cee - Faraway (Proceed Records)

Italian house music label Proceed Records, founded by renowned DJ/producer Haldo, is pleased to announce its shining 27th release. Here Haldo collaborates with vocalist Georgia Cee on an ambitious track titled “Faraway.” With a CV filled with tracks for labels such as Transport Recordings, Conya, and Adaptation Music (in addition to his own labels) and remixes for heavyweights like Tony Humphries and Victor Simonelli, Haldo is no stranger to producing deep and soulful house music. Georgia Cee’s background impresses, as well. Her vocal talent has found its way on Quentin Harris’ No Politics album as well as on singles produced by Timmy Regisford and tracks released by Jellybean Benitez. On “Faraway,” Haldo produces three separate mixes to dive into: the upfront funky house of the Original Mix, the deeper and dubbier Different Mix, and the more spacious, expressive Beach Mix. Haldo is also joined by a trio of Italian remixers offering a range of special interpretations. Clappy DJ (Tony Records, GKF) provides a deep, bass-heavy mix that effects the vocals for a techier sound in its second half. DJ-E-RO (AKA Ettore Rossi, Proceed Records) next presents a remix with a more electro-tinged drive and a recognizable Italo influence. Finally, Odo Makes A Smile (Recline, Revox Music) delivers a sprawling, expansive remix that gives the dance floor many different sounds to experience over its wild eleven minute ride. Excellent tracks from Italy, and another choice release from Proceed Records.
